18.01.2022 Is your pet on veterinary prescription medication and requiring more medication? Or Are you a Large Animal client requiring medication for your livestock?... Please contact the practice on 03 54 84 22 55 prior to coming into the practice. All prescription medications need to be reviewed and dispensed by a veterinarian. This will allow the medication to be organised prior to your arrival and minimize time spent in the practice waiting for the medication(s) to be dispensed.

16.01.2022 Rat bait toxicity (also known as Rodenticide toxicity) warning. Our region is experiencing a rise in the number of rats and mice around. As a consequence, many people have put out rat baits to help control the problem. Rat baits are toxic to dogs and cats once consumed. They interfere with the ability of blood to clot, therefore affected pets present with low red blood cells and may bleed externally or internally. Signs you might see in your pet are: lethargy, pale gums, cou...ghing or vomiting blood. This is a life threatening condition. Treatment most often involves a blood transfusion, vitamin K therapy and supportive care. If you suspect your pet has eaten rat bait please contact the practice immediately. It may be advised to bring the pet in to the practice to induce vomiting ( if known to have eaten the rat bait within 1 hour of getting to the practice), run a blood clotting test and/or start your pet on vitamin k therapy. As we are anticipating an increase in the number of pets requiring a blood transfusion we are putting the call out for blood donors. If your dog is aged between 1-7 years old, has a calm demeanour, is over 25kgs, not pregnant, vaccinated and in good health it may be eligible to be a blood donor. If you would like to put your dog on the donor list please call the practice on 0354842255

14.01.2022 Spring has sprung and the snakes are out and about!!!! We had our first patient at beginning of September. In previous years October has the highest number of snake bite patients. The signs of envenomation are variable and depend on many factors. Initially there may be vomiting, salivation, trembling, ataxia (staggering) or the animal will collapse. Sometimes the animal will collapse shortly after being bitten and then apparently recover only to relapse later. These animals ...have been seriously envenomated and are in urgent need of antivenom, so even if the dog/cat seems to be fine, have it checked out by the vet. As the best chance for survival from snakebite is to get antivenom as soon after the bite as possible, the first thing to do is ring the Vet Practice (24-hour emergency service- (03)54842255) and arrange to get your animal to the vet ASAP. 09.01.2022 We want to share with you this episode of Insight that aired on SBS earlier this week. It looks at the environment vets, vet nurses and our admin staff work within and some of the things that make the industry we love so challenging. We share this with the recognition that we are lucky to have an incredible client base and we thank each and every one of you for always treating us with respect, and often going above and beyond to make sure we feel valued. That said, we feel ...it’s our responsibility to promote this as a show of solidarity with our veterinary colleagues across Australia, to raise awareness of some of the more difficult parts of our roles. Have you already watched? What did you think? ://www.sbs.com.au/ondemand/video/1736874563554/veterinary-care

05.01.2022 It is around this time of year we see pregancy toxaemia in sheep. Pregnancy toxaemia commonly occurs in well conditioned ewes that are carrying twins or triplets. As the ewe approaches lambing, the demands of energy and calcium exceed what the ewe can get from her diet. The ewe then becomes weak and unable to stand. Treatment requires supplementing the ewes at risk with additional energy and calcium. If you are concerned that your ewes maybe at risk, please contact our practice on 03 54 84 22 55 to talk to one of vets.
