07.01.2022 A bit of Rock and Roll History......... Part 1 Rock and Roll is a genre of popular music that originated and evolved in the southern United States during the late 1940s and early 1950s. The immediate roots of rock and roll lay in the rhythm and blues and country music of the 1940s and 1950s. Rock and roll arrived at a time of considerable technological change, soon after the development of the electric guitar, amplifier and microphone, and the 45 rpm record. There were als...o changes in the record industry, with the rise of independent labels like Atlantic, Sun and Chess servicing niche audiences and a similar rise of radio stations that played their music. It was the realization that relatively affluent white teenagers were listening to this music that led to the development of what was to be defined as rock and roll as a distinct genre. The term Rock and Roll now has at least two different meanings, both in common usage: referring to the first wave of music that originated in the US in the 1950s and would later develop into the more encompassing international style known as rock music, and as a term simply synonymous with the rock music and culture of the 1960's in the broad sense. 07.01.2022 Wow! What a great night of Rock'n'Roll we had at Rock Around at St. Ailbes last night. The Heart Beats kept up the rock 'n' roll music till late - thanks guys, what a great show. Thank you everyone for your support, we really appreciate it.... Remember, we will be dancing again this Tuesday night coming - Australia Day! Hope to see you there at St Ailbes hall Launceston - 6.30pm to 7, for our basic rock step class, as well as a separate class for the moves and grooves.... lets keep dancing...

Just to keep you up to date with Rock Around's evening program, from next week we will be running the night as follows: 6:15pm: Doors Open 6:30pm: Rock n Roll Dance Basics - Intro Class... 6:30pm: Moves & Grooves Class (where we teach an add-on step to the basic rock n roll step and transitioning between steps) 6:55pm: The Stroll Group Dance practice (for those interested) 7:05pm-7:15: Slow Rock n Roll Dancing to practice your moves 7:05pm-8:30pm: Social Dancing.
