22.01.2022 Great news that the direction for parkrun has changed to a state by state opening now for Australia. Getting closer now but still so far away for us.

22.01.2022 Don’t forget to sign in for contact tracing if you are planning on attending this Saturday. There will also be QR code’s on the day but the more people that sign in before, the better.

22.01.2022 Parkies, A quick update on Rockhampton parkrun re opening as I have had a number of questions and queries come in during the week. It’s been a week since parkrun Australia and the QLD Govt/Health came to an agreement that allowed parkruns across QLD to look at restarting on Sat 28th November. From there each individual parkrun across QLD had a set number of mandatory items that we had to submit to allow us to restart. At at this afternoon we have submitted and got sign off fr...om HQ on the majority of those items. I am very confident next week that I will be able to advertise for volunteers to start filling the Roster for our restart on Sat 28th Nov. Stay tuned for a few more post updates next week. Excited and looking forward to our return soon .. Ian D See more

21.01.2022 Second profile for today from Suellen. If you would like to share your parkrun story with us please fill out the questions (on previous posts) and send them in. My Name is Suellen and I did my first Parkrun about 4 years ago. I have now done just over 100 parkruns. I have done a couple of parkruns at Main Beach and 1 at Bagarra. The Main Beach andBagarra parkruns both allow for a lovely cool dip in the ocean straight after. I love volunteering especially the marshal posi...tions down on Emu Corner. I love encouraging and giving cheek to the runners. I love coming to parkrun, my husband and myself have made many new friends and I love the friendly smiling faces you see every week. Outside of parkrun I usually do part time work at the Artizan Gluten Free Bakery and we also have our own business we run from home. Look forward to getting back on the track again with everyone. 21.01.2022 ATTENTION our fellow parkrunners, while we can not currently run together we CAN share the stories of some of your fellow parkrun lovers. So each week we have decided we will do a parkrunner in profile - allowing us all to get to know one another like we would any other week. If you would like to be featured in our parkrunner profile posts please fill out the questions (we will add them in the comments section below) and simply send them along with a favourite photo of you at parkrun to us via our facebook page

21.01.2022 HUGE news parkies ... Following extensive discussions with the Queensland Department of Sport and Recreation, we have approval to reopen all 107 parkrun and junior parkrun events in Queensland on 28 November. When events reopen in Queensland they will each be required to display a unique QR code for contact tracing purposes and we will be strongly encouraging all participants to sign in. This system currently exists for parkruns in New Zealand and the ACT and is working effec...tively. Stay tuned for more news in the coming weeks ... I’m excited Ian D

20.01.2022 Angela is our third park runner profile for the weekend. Thanks Angela for sharing your parkrun profile :) Park runner Profile: Angela Heffer (Ange) On my 50th birthday Sue Mitchell told me I should try Parkrun in the Botanic Gardens. I said I’d have to practise for a few weeks as I hadn’t run in 20 years. She told me it didn’t matter, so the following Saturday, 6 August 2016, she picked me up from my front door and took me to my first Parkrun. And it didn’t matter! There we...re people of all ages and abilities there. I loved how I felt that afternoon and I couldn’t wait for the next Saturday so that I could try to improve my time. I’ve done 106 Parkruns, 98 at Rockhampton. I’ve volunteered 16 times. My favourite volunteer positions are handing out finish tokens (except for that one time I did it with my husband - sorry Babe!) and scanning barcodes. When I’m not at Parkrun I’m receptionist at our Endodontics practice 4 days a week, and I draw and bake as much as I can on the remaining days. I have been a Parkrun tourist in Brisbane at South Bank and St Lucia; Adelaide at Torrens Parkrun: Cornwall in Auckland; and Rockingham, Claisebrook Cove and Cottesloe in Perth (my home town.) My favourite was Cornwall which is on a working farm on a volcanic cone, high above sea level. It was particularly special because all 5 members of my family did it together. I keep returning to Parkrun because I love being surrounded by positive people! Everyone I have met at Rocky parkrun is interesting. Saturday morning is my one guaranteed social and fitness outing for the week. See more

12.01.2022 It's been too long parkrunners. Hopefully you are all keeping well. Here's something to get your teeth into. I'd love to see you on the island.... Craig

12.01.2022 Thanks for David for his submission for this weeks parkrunner profile Name: David French When did you first start parkrun?... September 2016 Why did you first start parkrun? Losing my father, then brother, finding our middle son was disabled, dealing with the GFC, and some big ticket work matters that did not go so well and then Mum died, all within about 17 years, I found myself out of emotional fuel and chronically depressed. It wasn't that I had not sought help, I had just lost my former self. One day I was walking the dog at Yeppen and a few people ran toward me, then more, and then a flood of them. In the crowd I saw my friend Suzie Blair. "Hey watcha doing Suzie", I yelled. "Parkrun, look it up" she replied. I never looked back, even losing 13kgs. How many parkrun’s have you participated in? 122 Your favourite volunteer role? I've done scanning, timekeeping and marshalling. You really need to have your wits about you with the former two, so they are fun for the challenge. But I like marshalling most because you realise that you are most familiar with that group closest in time to you, but actually there are hundreds of other people, fast, slow, young, old, all enjoying Parkrun on their own terms. Have you parkrun touristed? And if so what is your favourite course? I have done Launceston, Hobart, Geevestown in Tasmania, Centenary Park in Sydney, Newfarm and Southbank in Brisbane, Kirra at Gold Coast, Albert Park in Melbourne, Bundaberg, Caboulture, Emerald, Airlie Beach and Wagga Wagga, Yaamba and Albury NSW. I have loved every one, but for sheer beauty, running along the Murray River in Albury is quintessentially Australian and hard to beat. One thing that keeps you coming back week after week? The one thing is what Parkrun stands for. A familiar event at a fixed time, a great bunch of people (I have not heard one nasty word in 3 1/2 years), and it's really well run. On top of that I know it's good for me. What makes Rockhampton parkrun special for you? The people. I've made probably 20 meaningful acquaintances, all of whom I look forward to seeing each week. Outside of parkrun what keeps you busy? I run a financial services business with 40 staff across 3 states. That has its moments! I'm helping my oldest son do up his 1978 Landcruiser. Work on our Queenslander. Treasurer of Doctors Health Queensland, a charity that helps doctors who find themselves with mental health and other challenges. My family is very important to me. I also love bushwalking, fishing, popular music and travelling to out of the way places. Gee, it sounds like I have a life!

11.01.2022 parkrun has released their Covid-19 event framework recently. Volunteers and participants should be familiar with this. As yet, there is NO DATE for the return of parkrun. https://volunteer.parkrun.com//open-with-covid-19-manageme Whilst there is NO DATE for a potential return to parkrun before the end of the year, there is a lot going on behind the scenes, and it won't be a matter of just show up and run.... Whilst the Framework is in DRAFT atm, some key points to note: 1. We will need Volunteers - no Volunteers = we won't reopen. 2. Social Distancing at all time must be adhered to, before, during and after the event including no High 5’s anymore. 3. If you have even the most minor of sniffles or other ailment - STAY HOME. 4. If you're attending, you MUST be registered and have your barcode (or whatever else Global parkrun directs) ON YOU. If there's a Covid incident, we have to be able to contact trace, and that's done through your registered email address - if you don't present your 'ID' then we don't know you're there - that could be life-threatening. The responsibility will rest with the Run Director / Event Director on the day to make some (expected) very hard calls and judgements. Respect these if they involve you. We have an international framework to follow, and it's nothing personal. I see the proposed Covid framework as a positive step and great to see that parkrun has been working hard to find us a way forward during this tough time. There is light at the end of the tunnel so stay tuned Ian D

10.01.2022 Thanks Emma for volunteering for our parkrunner profile tonight. If you would like to be featured please send in your answers(questions in a previous post). We would love to be able to introduce as many people as possible while we are out of action. Name: Emma Kirk When did you first start parkrun? 2016 Why did you first start parkrun? Mum told me to. Lol. My knee had dislocated from netball and I couldn't play sport anymore. But I ran a PB the weekend (before having knee s...urgery in Jan 2017). How many parkrun’s have you participated in? 122 Your favourite volunteer role? Tail walker or Marshall Have you parkrun touristed? And if so what is your favourite course? Yes, Mackay and Southbank. Southbank was a highlight, the course is gorgeous and I ran alongside Leisel Jones. One thing that keeps you coming back week after week? Everyone involved with Rocky Parkrun. I love seeing everyones little wins, whether it's a PB or you just ran a little further than last week. What makes Rockhampton parkrun special for you? The weekly run and breaky with my family and friends. The hi-fives, taps on the back and the smiles along the way to inspire you to keep going. Outside of parkrun what keeps you busy? Hanging with friends and family, running, gym, swimming and teaching. See more

09.01.2022 Well what a great morning it was today to welcome back parkrun into the community again with 265 participants enjoying the surrounding of the beautiful Botanical Gardens. Apart from celebrating our return, today we had a number of great milestones to celebrate that were 8 months in the waiting. Congratulations to Sue Deakin and Dominic Fletcher for their 150. Congratulations to Andrea Chapman, Tobias Lane and Paul Wiltshire for their 100. Also congrats to Graham Olive and Luk...e Rogers (sorry I missed announcing it) for their 50th parkruns today. We also had visitors from Weymouth (UK), Toowoomba, Hervey Bay, Gladstone amd Bargara. 19 first timers attended today that did their very first parkrun hope they are now hooked into the parkrun family. Many thanks to all the volunteers today as well much appreciated as without you we don’t have any parkrun. I hope everyone enjoyed the return to parkrun today and we will see you all again next week. 09.01.2022 Great news coming out tonight that Tassie to restart parkrun in 2 weeks time. 08.01.2022 Well not wanting Ian to have all the fun thank you to Jennifer for our second profile for the weekend. If you want to join in the fun you can find the questions in the comments. Name Jennifer Williams I did my first Parkrun (which was a walk) on 19th March 2016. I hadn’t heard of this thing called ‘Parkrun' until my daughter-in-law (Tarsh) mentioned a 5km event held at the Botanical Gardens each Saturday morning A little overweight, having high choles...terol and having not done any intentional exercise in 45 years I thought a walk in the park couldn’t hurt. Well it did! I was apprehensive about participating as I’m not someone who felt comfortable in large groups of people and was self conscious about my lack of fitness and body image. I have done 129 Parkruns and volunteered 30ish times. My favourite volunteer position would have to be timekeeper. I love the look of accomplishment on peoples faces as they cross the finish line. (Sometimes it is just a look of relief). I have only done 1 tourist Parkrun and that was at Yeppoon and boy did I feel like a traitor. I am very loyal to Rockhampton Parkrun. There are many reasons why I keep coming back and what makes it special. Mostly it is the people and the friendships I have made. The conversation and giggles I have with Karen Arnold while setting up the course. The smile on Matty Sheales face that keeps me going when I’m buggered. Can I say buggered? All the unflattering photos Cherri Gordon would take and upload week after week. Is my tongue hanging out? Love laughing at myself. Post run breakfast each week with my now extended Parkrun family. In my spare time I like to sew and get my creative happening. Going rogue now, I want to acknowledge Craig McCormack for getting Parkrun happening in Rockhampton. Keeping it fun, safe and simple. But I know there is more to it than just delivering a pre-run welcome and getting results out. Thank you Lyn for supporting Craig. (No pressure Ian & Teena) See more

06.01.2022 Something to keep you motivated and active in the local area if you were not aware ..

05.01.2022 Happy Saturday everyone!!! This weeks profile is from our very own Run Director Ian. I would love to be able to post some more this weekend so please send them in. Name? Ian Dunbier First parkrun? 22nd Oct 2016 Why did you first start parkrun? A mate dragged me up to the Rocky Botanical gardens as a comeback from foot injury after 3 years out of exercising.... How many parkruns/volunteers? 60 parkruns / 67 freedom runs (parkrun on a non Sat) and / 107 Volunteers Favourite volunteer role? Timekeeper people are so scared of the role but it’s the best role as you get to see everyone cross the finish line and cheer them on and see their excitement when they crack a PB and high 5 the kids. Are you a parkrun tourist and if so what was your favourite course? Ive visited a number of parkrun locations across Aust but to say which one is my favourite, I can’t do that. Each parkrun has its own unique features which makes it special in its own right. My special parkrun moment that I will always remember was at West Beach parkrun in Adelaide where the running path is right beside a horse training paddock. The horses run back and forth right next to you excited running with the parkrunners. Speaking of parkrun tourists, I’m one of those strange people that book their whole holidays around visiting different parkrun and always fly in on a Friday so I can attend a parkrun the next morning. What keeps you coming back week after week? The sense of community, social side and the friendships I have made. What makes Rockhampton parkrun so special for you? Its my home parkrun of course and the people but I do have a soft spot for that upwards flat section they call Vomit Hill (Its our thing). See more

04.01.2022 Put your hand up if you were very happy not to have to get out of bed early this morning Thankyou to Kerry for putting her hand up with a profile for this week. Photo throw back to the days when we had a broom to carry around the course. Name: Kerry Goodwin... First? Why? I had run in the past and was trying to source some new shoes . The manager of Athlete’s Foot encouraged me to give Park Run a go and I never looked back! Favourite volunteer role : marshal I love seeing everyone and encouraging them along. Favourite course: I have done Chermside a few times as my son lives just around the corner from the park and I can recommend it. I enjoy Southgate running along the promenade but may favourite was when we went back to South Africa and I did the Piggly Wiggy Park Run which is in a very beautiful part of the country and goes thorough the vineyards . It’s truly beautiful and there’s a gorgeous bakery and some little cafes to enjoy afterwards. What keeps me coming back? I have met so many wonderful people who I would never have gotten to know otherwise . Too many to mention . I love the camaraderie and the buzz on a Saturday morning. What makes Rockhampton Park Run special? The people of course and seeing the water and the pelicans! See more

04.01.2022 Want to kick start your 2021 off on the right note, why not come to parkrun tomorrow. If you would like to pre check in please do so on the link below https://www.parkrun.com/trace/n7t... See you all in the morning ... Ian D
