24.01.2022 ***Cyclones Welcome Sisters to 2020 NBL1 Season *** The CQUniversity Australia Rockhampton Cyclones have added to their 2020 NBL1 roster by signing sisters Geraldynn and Geralynn Leaupepe for the 2020 season. Lynn and Dynn both had stellar college careers at Cal Poly University in California and both are currently playing in Spain and will arrive in Rockhampton on the completion of their seasons in Spain. Lynn spent last season playing for the Sunbury Jets in the Big V comp...etition, averaging 19 points and 6 rebounds on the season and is looking forward to the opportunity to play in NBL1 North competition next season. Lynn said of her signing, I am very excited to not only be playing in NBL1, but to be playing with my twin sister again. We really appreciate the interest and this opportunity from Rockhampton for letting the both of us on board this upcoming season. I am looking forward to playing with the rest of the girls as well and meeting the rest of the coaching staff. I know we will make it a great season this year. After a great college career at Cal Poly University, Dynn has played in Denmark and Spain with her team Baxi Ferrol pushing for a playoff appearance and she is extremely excited about joining the Cyclones program and playing with her sister Lynn in Rockhampton and said, I am also super excited for the opportunity that Rockhampton has given my sister & I to play alongside each other again. We look forward to meeting our teammates, coaching staff and everyone associated with the organisation. Thank you again for this opportunity. General Manger at Rockhampton Basketball, Wade Rebetzke said, As a club we are extremely happy to have secured the playing services of the Leaupepe twins and can’t wait for their arrival. I think they will bring an exciting brand of basketball to the Cyclones program and be a great fit for our group for the 2020 season. The 5 ft 9inch guards will provide the team with great flexibility and will provide great energy at both ends of the floor. The girls ability to get to the bucket at the offensive end and create for other teammates is something that really interested us and their ability to defend multiple positions on the defensive end is going to be a great asset for our group. Make sure to like and follow our page to keep up to date with all of our signings for NBL1 and more information about the upcoming season.
23.01.2022 Ben Greany enters his first year in 2020 as Head Coach of the CQ University Rockhampton Rockets & Cyclones NBL1 North womens team, after serving as Assistant C...oach for the past 2 seasons under Head Coach Chris Muggeridge. Ben has been heavily involved with Rockhampton's junior girl’s representative teams over the past 5 years, and is also a lead coach at their Under 15 and Under 23 Academies, which were recently created. In this interview, Ben talks about taking over the coaching role following a successful period for the Cyclones, having won the QBL state championship titles in 2015 & 2016. Ben is working with strength and conditioning staff from the Central Qld University and is using that data to track player performance in the pre-season with a view to using it to maximise player contributions during the season. Ben talks about some of the Cyclones recruiting to date, and the culture he will be creating with the team and the experienced players in the group and the way the team can show leadership during the season. 15.01.2022 Neal Tweedy is Head Coach of the Rockhampton Rockets & Cyclones NBL1 North mens team and enters his 22nd season leading the Rockets in 2020. Neal has coached t...he Rockets to 7 straight finals appearances between 2008 and 2014, winning 4 QldBasketball League Championships during this time (2008, 2010, 2013 and 2014). Neal coached the Rockets team that won the last National Club Championship in 2008, defeating southern teams such as Sandringham, Frankston and Hobart along the way. Neal talks about his early coaching influences as a young Rockets player, including Don Shephard, Dave Claxton, and current Melbourne United Basketball Club Head Coach Dean Vickerman, and the different aspects of the game that he picked up from playing for and working with those coaches. Neal is considered one of the league's best recruiters, and talks about his recruitment process, and the challenge of finding the right "fit" for import players who will be based in a small town and will experience a huge travel schedule throughout the season. Neal gives some great insights into the recruitment of Australian born players, and his thoughts on the draw going into the 2020 NBL1 North season. 08.01.2022 Unfortunately our McDonalds Rockets and CQUniversity Australia Cyclones won't be taking on Toowoomba this weekend in the #NBL1North because of the current health situation we all face, however we thought you might want to relive some of the exciting action from the last time we took on the Men and Women of the mountain (Toowoomba Mountaineers). Stay tuned over the next few weeks as we share some games from last season to help you get that basketball fix.
08.01.2022 Good evening, Thank you for all of your comments with regards to our stream. We are endeavouring to fix the stream for the men’s game and appreciate your patience with this matter.
08.01.2022 *** ROCKETS SECURE HODGSON FOR 2020 SEASON *** The McDonald’s Rockhampton Rockets are proud to announce the signing of Brisbane Bullets big man Matt Hodgson for the 2020 #NBL1North season. Hodgson is coming off another stellar season for the Bullets, in which he averaged 10.29 points and 6.36 rebounds per game with the Bullets falling just short of a playoff spot after an extremely interesting last round of the NBL regular season. Hodgson has just played for the Australian B...oomers in the Asia Cup qualifiers last week against New Zealand and Hong Kong in Brisbane alongside fellow Rockhampton Rocket recruit Todd Blanchfield. Hodgson is excited to get to Central Queensland and said, I am really excited to be playing in the NBL1 North Season for Rockhampton and looking forward to the season ahead. I have heard great things about the basketball community in the region and I am looking forward to meeting my teammates and the people of Rockhampton. I believe the club has put together a wonderful roster and I will be doing everything I can to help the program have a successful 2020 season. General Manger, Wade Rebetzke said the following on Hodgson’s signing, We are extremely excited to add Matt to our roster for the 2020 season and he is a massive addition to the Rockets for the NBL 1 season. To have a starting NBL centre and Australian Boomer coming to our program is a massive coup for the organisation. Matt is a proven commodity at the NBL level and will provide the Rockets a genuine inside target, will rim protect at the defensive end and loves finishing plays above the rim. It was a priority of the program to sign a quality centre and we have done just that, and we are eagerly awaiting Matt’s arrival in Rockhampton. Head Coach, Neal Tweedy is ecstatic that Matt has committed to the group and said, Matt will provide the group with legitimate size in the paint and will change a number of shots on the defensive end with his length, and I know what he can do at the offensive end and I am very excited at having the opportunity to work with Matt. Below are some highlights of Matt in action. Stay tuned for more signings to come.

07.01.2022 The CQUniversity Australia Rockhampton Cyclones have secured Shrita Parker for the 2020 #NBL1North Season. Shrita is currently playing overseas and will arrive in Rockhampton in mid April in preparation for the opening game of the 2020 season against the Toowoomba Mountaineers. The 5 ft 7 point guard had a great college career where she averaged 15 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists per game in her senior year at UNCW University. Shrita spent the first 3 years of her college ...career at Rutgers University and in the 2016/17 season averaged 12 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assist per game in that season competing in the Big Ten conference. General Manager, Wade Rebetzke said, We are extremely happy to welcome Shrita to the Rockhampton Cyclones program. We believe Shrita will be a great fit for the group, with her ability to shoot the 3 at a great percentage a huge benefit and her quickness will create many problems for opposition teams. Shrita is extremely active on the defensive end of the floor as well which is also one of the reasons we are excited to bring her to our group. Head Coach Ben Greany is also excited that the team is coming together and said, I believe we are starting to put together a decent roster for the upcoming season and securing Shrita in the point guard role is great for the club. The ability Shrita has to get into the lane with her speed offensively and finish plays was a key factor in her signing and I believe she will fit the style of play of the group. I am really excited at how things are coming together and I believe we have an extremely mobile group that will be looking to play an uptempo style in 2020. Check out some of her highlights below!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=465YyyCmwDE

02.01.2022 *** JOSH SPIERS SIGNS WITH ROCKETS FOR 2020 NBL1 SEASON *** The McDonald’s Rockhampton Rockets have continued to bolster their roster ahead of the 2020 #NBL1North season with the signing of sharp shooter Josh Spiers. After playing in the QBL for the Ipswich Force last year, Josh made the move back to Townsville in the off season and the Rockets saw a massive opportunity to place an offer to Josh to join the team for the season. ... General Manager, Wade Rebetzke said, We are super excited that Josh has decided to play for Rockhampton this season and glad that he has committed to the group after a number of teams were chasing his signature. He is the perfect fit for the team that we are putting together and his ability to shoot the ball from the perimeter, and provide great length and flexibility is a great coup for the Rockets organisation. Josh’s length also provides the group with great flexibility on the defensive end where he can defend multiple positions on the floor. Spiers has played the last 2 seasons at the Ipswich Force and in 2019 averaged 12 points and 4 rebounds per game and was an integral part of the Ipswich outfit. Spiers shoots the 3 ball at around 40% which is fantastic and something that the fans in Rockhampton can look forward to. Coach Neal Tweedy couldn’t be happier that Spiers has signed with the club, and said Having a 6ft 7inch shooting guard that can consistently knock down the perimeter shot is something that every coach would love to have on their roster. We believe that Josh will fit right in with this group and be given a great opportunity to have an exciting year in Rockets colours. He also provides us with great flexibility on the floor and can play multiple positions which will be extremely handy throughout the year. Spiers is looking forward to the season ahead in Rockhampton and said, I’m excited for the opportunity that was presented to me. There are a lot of talented guys coming in and when I was asked to be a part of the group it was hard to say no. Rocky has always been an awesome place to play on the road and I’m excited to be on the other side with a Rockets uniform on. Josh will arrive in Rockhampton in early April to link with his team mates and prepare for the opening game of the NBL1 season on the 24th of April against the Toowoomba Mountaineers.
