11.01.2022 More changes coming your way thanks to COVID-19, but the course remains open for play as long as we all play be the rules. All the latest in this week's RGC Newsletter. https://mailchi.mp//rocky-golf-club-newsletter-9-april-202

09.01.2022 New COVID-19 rules First the good news - the course remains open for play under the new COVID-19 movement restrictions. Initially Golf Australia has recommend that, based on the Prime Ministers announcement on 29 March 2020 that limits outdoor gatherings to two persons or fewer, that all golf clubs and facilities should close until further notice.... However, Queenslands Chief Health Officer has since informed that a Golf Club can still be open under the new distance measures. This means that playing groups will be capped at a maximum of two people. The online booking sheets for Thursday and Saturday have been re-set to reflect this restriction - players who previously booked a tee time will need to re-book their places on the new timesheet. People who want to hire a golf club buggy should not book before 6.30am time slot or after a 2.00pm time slot. The new local rules established last week, including that flags must remain in to avoid handling, will also remain in place. The clubhouse remains closed and takeaway food and alcohol is not available. Alcohol must not be brought on to the course. Our club will only be able to continue operating under these new rules if players comply with the restrictions, as non-compliance could result in substantial fines.

09.01.2022 Closed championships be like ... How did you fare in the opening two rounds?

09.01.2022 Good gear equals good golf!

09.01.2022 With the winter weather our greens are playing softer than normal. This means more plug marks which, if left unrepaired or treated with the wrong technique, can lead to disease or weed pressures at worst, and at best take two weeks for the grass to regrow. Learn how to fix your plug mark the right way in this short video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GuYXMn4tA10&feature=youtu.be

07.01.2022 REMINDER! Membership fees are now overdue and under the club rules, unfinancial members are not able to play in competitions. If your fees are still due and you're down to play Saturday, Karen will be in the office Saturday to take payment or set up ezypay installments for you.... On time payment is a simple way of keeping the club financial during this difficult period.

07.01.2022 The draw is out for Round 2 of the DNK Refrigeration City of Rockhampton Open, with seeded positions for the leaders in each of the three grades. Best of luck tomorrow!

06.01.2022 Tim Cumming - Wildlife Warrior! Tim came to the rescue of one of the pelicans that makes the pond beside number 8 its home, after it had become quite ill last week. The ladies who spotted the sick pelican said it was distressing to see it struggling. Deb Carige called the RSPCA but they could not reach the bird without access to a watercraft. Luckily RGC club member Tim Cumming, who lives nearby and was on his way home from work, came up with the successful surfboard solut...ion, braving the cold and not-so-clean water to shepherd the pelican to the RSPCA officer on shore for transport to Alma Street Vet Clinic. While Tim has suffered more than his fair share of Facebook sledging since, he did a terrific job and his assistance was appreciated. If the pelican survives, it will be nursed by a wildlife carer until it is ready for release back into our waterhole. Please report sick or injured wildlife to the RSPCA rescue hotlline 1300 ANIMAL (264 625). See more

05.01.2022 Have you secured your seat at our Centenary Ball? Don't wait any longer - time is running out.

05.01.2022 A change to Covid rules means the clubhouse bars will return to seated drinking only and all patrons must provide their names and contact details on entry. https://cq.informz.net//bWFpbGluZ2luc3RhbmNlaWQ9MjE2ODQzMi

05.01.2022 This December, we’re taking on The Longest Day the ultimate golfing challenge! We’ll be testing our skill, strength and stamina by playing 4 rounds of golf in a single day to support Cancer Council and raise funds for those affected by cancer. Please show your support by sponsoring RGC members taking part, including Dean Bunt, who are doing their bit to give back and change lives. Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, with two in three Austral...ians diagnosed with skin cancer by the age of 70, and we want to do something to help change that! 04.01.2022 Apologies to everyone who was hoping to celebrate our Centenary Ball, but unfortunately with the Covid-19 restrictions now limiting numbers to 100 the event is no longer viable. As such we are postponing the ball until further notice. Refunds are available for tickets already purchased and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.

04.01.2022 And were back!!! Under Qlds new social distancing laws golfers will once again be again be allowed to drink alcohol on course from lunchtime on Friday. Cheers!

03.01.2022 Back where it all began ... while we are this year celebrating 100 years at our current location, did you know that the original Rockhampton Golf Club was located on the Harbour Board Reserve along the northern bank of the Fitzroy River (just below the current cricket ground)? It was formed in 1902 and operated until 1909. This great photo was taken on the 9th green at the official season opening in 1909. More information on our history can be found at https://www.rockygolfclub.org.au/history

03.01.2022 REMINDER! Membership fees are now overdue and under the club rules, unfinancial members are not able to play in competitions. If your fees are still due and you're down to play Saturday, Karen will be in the office Saturday to take payment or set up ezypay installments for you. ... And if you're worried about what COVID-19 might mean to your membership, if the course is closed at any stage due to coronavirus, that time period will be credited to your membership next year. On time payment is a simple way of keeping the club financial during this difficult period.
