25.01.2022 We would love to share with you this update on how we are going with introducing new spaces and practices that align with contemporary understanding of early childhood education with an introduction of a new common space called the Atelier. The Atelier is the space where children and educators come together in small groups to work on projects. We work in small groups to ensure children have time and attention by our Educators. The Educators always have a clear intention of the investigations and exploration within this space. The learning outcomes are clear as well. The materials are unstructured, but the activity is structured. The educators prepare and display the material before in a well organised way and with full intention. We look forward to seeing what amazing explorations the children and Educators find within our Atelier.

24.01.2022 Today the Pre-Kindy and Kindy Children enjoyed painting with marbles, rolling them down the slide! Woo hoo look at them go. This experience extended on the children's current interests and their love of the slide and painting. The children were able to refine their colour recognition, fine motor and resourcefulness skills during this experience where they chose some items that roll to create amazing patterns on the paper that covered the slide. The children were also able to demonstrate negotiation and group work skills to choose the paint colours.

22.01.2022 Activities for all this morning! Extending from the children’s interests inside the classroom to outside of the classroom!

16.01.2022 LOOSE PARTS & RECYCLING. Loose parts are classed as materials that offer children and adults alike opportunity to use and experiment and create with in many varied ways rather than in a set prescriptive way. They are unstructured materials that come from nature and items that are recyclable. Loose parts are sustainable and economical. Rather than the use of plastic toys that often only have 1 use and are not eco-friendly, we prefer the use of loose parts to support and sustai...n our children’s thinking and learning through their production of new and creative ideas in playing with, using, combining and constructing with loose parts materials. Our Educators and families generously donate many items that are highly valued and used in creative ways by our children here at Rocky North. We will be placing 2 recycling containers in our Foyer next week (1 for natural items pinecones, seed pods, shells, driftwood, tree branches, pieces of timber, dried flowers - and 1 for recyclable items tin cans, plastic containers, glass jars, plastic tubing, unwanted fabric, adult clothing, shoes, hats and bags, ribbon, cotton reels, travel magazines etc.) and look forward to receiving ongoing contributions to add to our RECYCLING CENTRE here at Rocky North we look forward to sharing with you some of the amazing learning and loose parts creations undertaken by the children and Educators in the coming months.

04.01.2022 The hundred languages is a key principle of the Reggio Emilia approach that we are beginning to introduce at Rockhampton NorthEarly Learning. It refers to communication and emphasises the importance of providing children with a hundred ways to share their thinking and learning about the world around them. The hundred languages also represent the infinite amount of potential each child naturally has and each child’s individual view and perspective of their community. As is widely accepted by educators and supported in research, we understand that children learn in a variety of ways - through painting, drawing, writing, singing, dancing, constructing, philosophising, photographing, storytelling, exploring with many different materials in many different ways, through imaginative play and many many more...
