24.01.2022 Today is World Wombat Day. Donna is flat-out from celebrating. She has been for a walk, dug some holes, and had a relaxing roll in the grass. How will you celebrate our iconic Aussie legend?... #rockhamptonzoo #wombat #worldwombatday
23.01.2022 Here's a dose of Gandali cuteness to get you through to the weekend. Gandali is playing with the wood wool, and mimicking his mum in nest-building. He still needs a lot of practice though! #rockhamptonzoo #chimp #gandali

23.01.2022 Yesterday was Meeka's fifth birthday! As a treat, we gave her and her companion Ernie some scent trails to follow. Meeka was born in the wild around the Atherton Tablelands and lost her mum at a young age. She was taken to a local dog shelter and was then re-homed at Rockhampton Zoo in late 2015. #rockhamptonzoo #dingo #happybirthday

22.01.2022 This week, Gandali has been enjoying piggyback rides on mum, Holly. Holly is getting more and more confident in her role as a mother. Lately, we've seen her relaxing a lot more, and allowing Gandali to ride on her back instead of swaddling him close to her chest #rockhamptonzoo #chimp #chimpanzee #gandali #mumlife
22.01.2022 With the warmer weather, there has been a high number of snake sightings around the zoo. Please: Stay on pathways and out of garden beds Look carefully when walking around the zoo Do not attempt to touch a snake, and keep out of its way Alert a keeper... Keep calm. See more
21.01.2022 Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! The team at Rockhampton Zoo tries to re-use and re-purpose items wherever possible. Here are some egg boxes that have been given a second life as bird enrichment.... Filled with fruit, nuts and veggies wrapped up in newspaper, these egg box activities are a nutritious accompaniment to the bush birds' and macaws' regular food dishes. The birds have to solve the puzzle of getting the treats out! #rockhamptonzoo #reducereuserecycle #enrichment #birds
21.01.2022 Happy Halloween! Trick or treat? Rockhampton Zoo keepers gave some of our animals a special treat this week. Some of the animals liked their Halloween pumpkins more than others! The carved pumpkins provided a unique and interesting enrichment experience - we hope you enjoy watching them as much as they enjoyed their Halloween treats!... #rockhamptonzoo #halloween #happyhalloween #pumpkin #trickortreat

14.01.2022 Watch Dana, one of our lion-tailed macaques, as she uses a rock to make her snack more appetising. She has found an insect in her enclosure, and is making short work of it. Keeper Lauren caught this great example of Dana using a tool earlier this week. Macaques often use stone tools in their daily foraging. #rockhamptonzoo #liontailedmacaque

12.01.2022 Since becoming a mother, Holly has become much more playful with Capri. She loves play-wrestling with her and tickling her. This is great for Gandali, as he can watch and learn how chimpanzees play, but he's a bit small to join in much just yet! #rockhamptonzoo #chimpanzee #playtime

They had never tried salmon before, so they turned their noses up at it!... Tomio eventually ran off with his piece of salmon to wash it in the stream, and then he ate it. We will have to try something different for Misumi's next birthday! #otter #birthday #rockhamptonzoo

07.01.2022 Regal and relaxed, Dana looks elegant as she poses with her stick of Dracaena. Holding her stick, she reminds us of the Lion King's Rafiki and his staff. Dana is one of our two lion-tailed macaques, while Rafiki is a mandrill. #rockhamptonzoo #macaque #mandrill #lionking
07.01.2022 Have you seen our new additions? They are Krefft's River Turtles. They sure made a splash when they first arrived in their new enclosure at Rockhampton Zoo. If you see animals in the wild, please leave them there. This pair were rehomed to Rockhampton Zoo after being held illegally as pets in a small tank indoors. ... They would not survive if they were released back into the wild, because they were hand-raised and could pose a disease-risk to animals in the wild. Luckily, they can now live out long and happy lives in their new home at Rockhampton Zoo, enjoying a large pond, plants, soil and natural sunlight. #rockhamptonzoo #krefftsriverturtle #turtle
