24.01.2022 Happy Science Week, Rockstars!
23.01.2022 Vote for the ACT Fossil Emblem! The ACT already has a floral, bird, and mammal emblem, but a fossil emblem is unique to these other emblems because it embodies ...how deep geological time can help us understand the natural history of the ACT. The ACT has a fantastic portfolio of candidates for fossil emblems. Many of these have geological significance, unique characteristics representative of the ACT, and interesting stories of discovery. The candidates are: Retziella capricorniae (brachiopod) Batocara mitchelli (trilobite) Atrypa duntroonensis (brachiopod) Apocalymene coppinsensis (trilobite) Monograptus exiguus (graptolite) Voting is open until 13 October to all ages click on the link to cast your vote! https://surveyhero.com/c/ACTfossilemblem This initiative was developed in collaboration with the GSA ACT Division, the ACT Government, Geoscience Australia and the Australian Marine Sciences Association. #geology #geologicalsocietyofaustralia #fossil

01.01.2022 Do you know a female geologist? Odds are, she wouldn't be where she was today without the work of Etheldred Bennett. Often noted as the "First Female Geologist,..." Bennett spent her 1800s life collecting fossils and studying stratigraphy in South West England. Her commitment to the uncovering the local landscape even helped William Smith create the first nationwide geological map back in 1815! #WomenInStemWednesday [: trowelblazers.com]
