25.01.2022 PARSLEY (grows really well in wooden containers and can be very near your kitchen if planted close to your back door) Parsley (petroselinum crispum) is an essential for any herb garden. Some prefer the flat leafed Italian parsley which can be eaten as a salad veggie. Others favour the curly leafed parsley which is often... used as a garnish. Parsley can be used in great handfuls if chopped up and thrown into vegetable soups Tomatoes emit solanine, a chemical that repels asparagus beetles. In turn, Asparagus gives off a chemical that deters nematodes. Basil makes a great companion plant because it attracts butterflies to your garden and repels many harmful insects such as aphids, asparagus beetles, mosquitoes. If you grow Asparagus, and add companions parsley, basil to help attract beneficial insects for your other crops, and tomatoes and you have a winning quartet. All of the plants will be very useful in your kitchen. See more
