25.01.2022 Today is Wear Orange Wednesday to say thanks to our State Emergency Service. Across Western Australia, there are 2,047 SES Volunteers, who give their time to respond to storms, cyclones, floods, searches and other incidents throughout the year. #thankyouses

25.01.2022 A friendly reminder about fire hydrants. Recently at a house fire the nearest fire hydrant had a car parked on it causing a delay setting up our water supply whilst the owner moved it. Under the WA Traffic Code 2000 section 163 (1) A driver shall not stop a vehicle so that any portion of the vehicle is within 1 m of a fire hydrant or fire plug, or of any sign or mark indicating the existence of a fire hydrant or fire plug... Our trucks in Rockingham only carry 1200lt of water and in residential areas hydrants can be up to 250m apart so we rely on local residents to ensure there is access at all times. Fire hydrants in WA can be identified by - A white metal box or grey plastic box at ground level - A white H painted on the road approximately 1m from the kerb - A white arrow on the kerb which points to the hydrant Do you have any questions about fire hydrants? Ask in the comments below

24.01.2022 We had two shifts of Rockingham VFRS work through the night and today at the Wooroloo fire. During significant incidents like this, we employ rural urban interface fire fighting techniques. This involves locating people and property under threat, deploying hoses around the house and standing in the path of an on coming fire. Once the front has passed, the crew will redeploy (often through burning flanks on the road or driveway) to the next house and repeat this action. This m...ethod is used when resources and water supplies are stretched/limited Remember for up to date information visit https://www.emergency.wa.gov.au Credit: RockinghamVFRS

23.01.2022 Can I burn off or have a fire in my backyard? STEP 1 - Check if there is a Total Fire Ban (TFB) Emergency.wa.gov.au A TFB is declared by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services on a day when a fire is most likely to spread rapidly (because of extreme fire weather) OR if there are already widespread fires or incidents and there aren't enough resources to handle any more... It is issued for one day at a time for the selected shires by 6pm the day prior and if one is declared for you area you must not light an open-air fire or conduct any activity that could start a fire. STEP 2- If there is no TFB issued you need to adhere to the City of Rockingham's regulations. Currently there are no permits to burn being issued by the City to rural areas until at least 28th April. Normal restrictions apply to cooking, camping and heating fires and can be found on the City's website https://rockingham.wa.gov.au/your-services/fire-control
