23.01.2022 You might have heard the saying Terrible Twos Did you know this stage is all part of their brain development. Around 2 years of age, toddlers start building the next part of their brain: The Limbic System, directly linked to emotions! At this age, toddlers are learning about their world and are dictated by their emotions. They cannot yet regulate their emotions, this is where you might see the Tantrums begin. Nathan Wallis gives the example of two children receiving on...e biscuit each, except one childs biscuit is broken They look across to the other child who has a whole biscuit and become increasingly upset because they want their one. You may try to reason with this child that they both have the same amount, but thats not the point their biscuit looks bigger, their biscuit isnt broken! This is very devastating for your child and because they havent yet formed their frontal cortex, they cannot think the logic sense that you do. How to support your toddler and young child with building their limbic system: - Validate, validate, validate their emotions. - Once you have validated their emotions, and they have settled, offer them another choice Reptiles have brains 1&2, full survival and movement, but no emotion. Mammals have brains 1, 2 & 3 your dog has all three, theyre happy and excited to see you! Only Humans develop the next part of the brain The Frontal Cortex.
23.01.2022 Does anyone else often end up with 'treasures' from your walks? Blades of grass? Flowers? Pebbles?

22.01.2022 The joy of play is undeniable. The pain of stepping on a Lego piece is also undeniable!
22.01.2022 From around 6 months to 2 years of age, your infants and toddlers will be building their Cerebellum; directly related to movement! This is where your infant continues to build their strength, balance and co-ordination to start rolling, crawling, walking through to running and climbing. It is important to note, infants and toddlers will all develop at their own pace, what they need is plenty of free movement opportunities to continue building their strength, their movement. ...Earlier is not better. Observe more, do less. Do less, enjoy more Supporting your infant and toddlers movement: - Free movement opportunities, in their most comfortable position. If your infant is not yet rolling, allow them plenty of time to lay on their backs to build their core strength. - Lots of support, guidance and encouragement. Allow them the time to try things for themselves. If you do things for them, you snatch the chance of them learning how to do it. - For your toddlers lots of free play outside where they can freely walk, run, climb to their hearts content. What infants need is the opportunity and time to take in and figure out the world around them." Magda Gerber Reptiles have brains 1&2 full survival and movement, no emotion.
21.01.2022 Anyone getting crafty this weekend? Wed love to hear about your projects!
21.01.2022 Honesty from children is so beautiful - just remember that sometimes its best not to ask the questions you dont really want answers too like "how old do you think I am?"
21.01.2022 Sunday morning feels. Who else just feels like the weeks are rushing past this year?

19.01.2022 Collecting! Whether it's pebbles, leaves, shells, stamps, stickers or other trinkets - collecting little bits and pieces is pretty common. What did you collect as a child? What do your children collect?
17.01.2022 With COVID19 there has been a lot of adjustments. What are some adjustments you've made to activities with your children? What brilliant pandemic activities have you come up with?

17.01.2022 Tying your shoe laces, its just such a thing you take for granted as an adult. But when youre a child: what an achievement! Who remembers when they learnt? And how did your children learn?
16.01.2022 Is it really Monday already?
15.01.2022 Cleaning, chores, house duties - as adults they're the everyday activities but as children they can be a sign of responsibility and contribution. However sometimes getting children to tidy their things can be harder than you'd imagine. Share your tips and tricks!
15.01.2022 Seeing our children helping someone or something is a wonderful experience. What are some examples of when your child has gone out of their way to help? It can be the smallest thing! All acts of kindness are meaningful.

12.01.2022 Nathan Wallis is famously known for Brain Research and inspires many ECE professionals, including our Teaching Team in at Rockmybaby Did you know, when we are born, only 15% of our brains are formed and the remaining 85% is built in the first 1000 days of our life. This is why there are direct links to why the first 1000 days are so important and why they set us up for lifelong learning and success.

09.01.2022 There's no denying that children tend to grow so much faster than we want them to. Who else has just blinked and their child has grown 5cm over night?
09.01.2022 That's not to say that raising children is a walk in the park or that there aren't moments where we want to order that 8th coffee of the day, but having a child should be fun.
09.01.2022 In the first six months of an infants life, they are building their brain stem through the development of a secure attachment. Infants are in survival mode and use attachment as their form of survival. Our body kicks into using the brain stem when we experience stressful, traumatic events. It puts us into a state of fight, flight or freeze. It is connected to our basic survival functions such as heart rate, blood flow, temperature and our breathing. Infants between 0-6 month...s form a secure attachment with one parent (a dyadic relationship), then two. Infants will gradually introduce further secure attachments over a length of time. "When you hold an infant, hold him not just with your body, but with your mind and heart." - Magda Gerber Building your infants attachment: Make eye contact during all intimate routines such as feeding, changing, putting down to sleep. Talk and sing to your infant, let them hear your voice, all the time throughout the day it doesnt matter what you talk or sing about. Just as long as they can hear you and see you and know that you are there. From here, your infants will start to build their cerebellum Reptiles have brains 1&2 full survival and movement, no emotion. Infants through to adulthood, brain number 1, always needs to supported, above all else! This is why your child, should always have at least one secure attachment in every environment.
