22.01.2022 Work today here at Rockridge a couple of milestones achieved with two outside horses Might not seem significant to many but when an 18yr old comes in for ‘boot camp’ after having s good long holiday in his paddock and requires one to stand tall on a chair to put on bridle today had that same bridle placed with me sitting on that chair What a difference this will be for his owner My second milestone backing a youngster who has a few trust issues and possesses a really big scaredy-cat gene, he took me getting on and being ponied from Hooch with out incident taken three weeks for his confidence to allow this Happy dance all round

19.01.2022 I came across this from another clinicians fb page, wise words to consider when working our horses There are two strategies that don't work well on a horse: 1) Forcing something on them 2) Sheltering them from reality... Forcing something on a horse will either cause a fear brace, or a combative brace...and that will bite you at all the wrong place and all the wrong time. And unfortunately, sooner or later life is going to get messy. So sheltering them from all the little messes here and there, and not helping them get through it and figure it out, only creates a giant mess when you can't micromanage life and it hits like a ton of bricks... that's nobody's fault but the humans. It's always a balance, and finding center for each individual is always going to be the hardest thing to do. It's easy on us to only use one strategy, or to always be at one end or the other of the spectrum, but that's what's easy for us, not always what's good for the horse. Impatient people need to get some patients sometimes. Patient people need to push the limits sometimes. Firm people are going to need to soften up sometimes. And soft people are going to need to toughen up sometimes ...If you're in it for what's best for the horse, and not yourself that is. Your ride today should always have tomorrow in mind Make it fun for you and your equine partner

19.01.2022 A little late in getting photos up from last clinic What a successful day it was, many riders pushing themselves out of their comfort zone to accomplish exercises they thought were beyond their capability These are the very days that we feel we really are helping you gain confidence and a better communication with your horses

15.01.2022 There’s nothing quite so satisfying as helping a fellow horsewoman succeed with their horse, particularly when several other people have told that person they don’t have what it takes to manage a horse with a big personality So it was back to basic foundation training on the lead line, ground work exercises to gain respect learn some leadership skills and learn how to diffuse poor behaviour, all in a calm manner. My client willing to do her homework, put in some positive tr...aining methods on her horse one step at a time feeling empowered and in control Makes my heart sing with joy Foundation training we can help you become a confident horse handler and rider

15.01.2022 Some photos from yesterdays horsemanship clinic where principles and technique were demonstrated followed by placing trust in your horse to perform the moves asked.Allow mistakes to happen, correct accordingly and not to ‘micro manage’ your horse Mistakes did happen, corrections were applied and improvement was noticeably seen by all Thanks again to those who attended and continue to come along to our fun and informative days it’s wonderful to see new faces and fabulous to see our return riders Thank you to those who requested some follow up lessons

15.01.2022 Position has become available for this clinic If you were thinking about attending now is the opportunity to secure a place, have a whole day of fun Message or call me 0419035244

14.01.2022 Wow what a day today. A full clinic again with 9 new comers who came to learn some foundation training, gain a greater understanding of communication techniques with their horses. Afternoon ridden exercises where many really pushed thru some fears and rode with confidence and determination. Well done to all, here are some photos Sorry if I missed you you must have been hiding from the photographer !!

14.01.2022 Just started this little mare Taking it all nice and slow she tells me what she’s up for No rushing her training I don’t want to create any problems that need fixing due to asking more than she’s ready for Lots of ground work and this is her 5th ride. Yep out in the big paddock There’s a fair bit of tail swishing happening, emotional green broke display but she had her listening ears on all the time ... Little Lola you’re going to make a great horse as you mature for some one to continue your education See more

13.01.2022 Another successful clinic yesterday with several riders really connecting with their horses Lots of home work to do, keep it fun and look for all those improvements Hers a collection of photos from yesterday Feel happy to tag or name yourself and share

13.01.2022 RIDER IMPROVEMENT CLINIC Requests are being made for a follow up clinic from last Sunday asking for some coaching for ‘improved rider’ position/communication with their horses. So, expressions of interest ... Our weekends are quite full however we could squeeze a morning session (3hours ) over the Easter break. Friday, Saturday or Sunday makes no difference to us Cost $60 ( $20 per hour great value ) Format : ground work warm up horses saddled, proceeding to ridden work as soon as all horses are settled. Message me or phone 0419035244 if your keen with a preference of day We will choose which day when responses to clinic are received We do also offer this mid week for either one on one lesson or small groups It will be fun, with more exercises to take home and practice

11.01.2022 2020 kick start to the year went well today despite a major muckup that i claim all for myself, leaving the sprinkler going over night on Friday emptying 22,000litres of water on arena !!!!! What a swamp that Dave managed to fix on Saturday so that the arena was suitable to use today A big group of riders with age range from 8yrs to mature ladies Lovely to welcome some new faces and always pleasing to see familiar faces too Hopefully each person was able to take something positive home from today’s exercises to improve their horsemanship Remember folks it’s your journey you are in control of how and when you arrive at your destiny. We hope to help you do so safely and with a smile on your face

11.01.2022 The pure joy of helping someone achieve what many people think is quite insignificant, when it comes to coaching a rider fulfil a personal goal I’m not quite sure who get the biggest buzz from this ? Today a lady pushed herself out of her comfort zone successfully asking for a soft slow lope on our faithful Mickey and he sure won’t do this unless asked correctly It may not have been a perfect full circle however the smile of achievement from this lady was priceless One on one lessons so rewarding our horses for being patient and kind with their riders

11.01.2022 Yesterday we had the utmost pleasure to be invited to Maliepark Park Equestrian ( Kylie and Matt Milway ) where we presented a confidence building clinic. A very different mixture of people came to play with their horses, we had wee little critters 6yrs of age to mature ladies. Those wee critters had a whole lot of spunk and really showed us older ones how to have fun with our horses. Kylie and Matt opened their property and were very generous hosts. Thank you very much we look forward to another invite ?? Here are some photos of the day. Please feel free to tag your name if you wish and to share any of your photos. Photos taken by Kylie

11.01.2022 As this year comes to a close it only seems fitting to say a huge thank you to all who have continued to come along to the clinics we have held this year, the individual one on one lessons so many have chosen to take part in. Thank you for choosing Dave and I. To see so many individuals reach their milestones in their horsemanship is truly rewarding. We understand for some merely getting yourself and your horse to a lesson or a clinic is an achievement. We have seen you prog...ress and become more confident with your horses, moving outside of your comfort zone to accomplish small but significant exercises; well done. Now it’s time to think about what you may like to accomplish in 2020 with your equine partner and how we can make that dream become a reality Time for to 2020 calendar some of these dates may need to be altered due to weather conditions January 19th Sunday General horsemanship a review have we been practicing right ? Plenty of exercises to practice at home so that very soon the two year olds can be saddled and backed Finishing up before the heavens opened with a down pour of rain ... Thanks to photographer of the day Nicki Samson -Ward for taking so many great photos Feel free to tag or add your comments ( horses names I forgot them all )

06.01.2022 Yesterday’s horsemanship riding clinic was challenging for some, however the end result was positive on many levels. Training and guiding our horses through a series of exercises builds confidence and trust not only for our 500+kg partner but ourself. Emotions occasionally bubble to the surface mainly due to confusion, this is the perfect time to take a step back and reflect not on how far we have to go but just how far you have come. Here at Rockridge we hope to empower you with knowledge to succeed in which ever direction your heart desires.
