25.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 1/02/19 More northerly winds again last week made it tough for the blue water fishos with better conditions expected over the weekend. It took some searching but boaties found some Snapper off Scotts Head with a few Pearl Perch and the odd Jewfish. Off Grassy the water has gone cold and green making it difficult to entice those Mackerel to bite. In front of the Jail there were a couple of nice Cobia caught in messy conditions. Down south a... few Kings were caught while Black Rock was sitting in 16 degree water. There is a Southerly coming lets hope it hangs around for a while. In the river there are some big fish off the North Wall at the entrance. Reported were catches of King Fish and Cobia with some nice Flathead and Jewfish in the bag. Solid Sharks are also menacing your baits. Up river good numbers of Flathead are about sitting in the shallows just waiting for a plastic or one of those magical Double Clutch lures to be thrown at them. There are a few Whiting being caught but nothing like there should be. Hopefully a little rain might bring them on and out to the beaches. It might be a good time to have a go at some Bass up river. Get hold of a few Surface lures and fish early or late in the day for some fantastic Aussie Bass action. Unfortunately the beaches have been slow. There were a few Bream and Whiting on Smoky and Gap Beach with the Hat Head end of the beach fishing a little better. Take care on the Bars Paul Martin Rocks Marine Bait and Tackle
24.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 13/12/19 Some warmer blue water has come in through the week with the few days of Southerly winds, but we are still waiting for that first Mackerel to be caught for the season. Off Grassy and Scotts Head some nice Snapper were taken up to around 6 kilo with one or two Pearlies in the bag. Tusk Fish are starting to appear as well. Out on the wide grounds Dolphin Fish are in good numbers while a bait down deep should get you a Cod or two. Off t...he Jail the Dot is producing a few Snapper, Mowies and assorted reef fish. Flathead are on the gravel in front of the Lighthouse as are Spanner Crabs (Just check the local restrictions). Fish Rock and Green Island has had some King Fish action through the week. Last week we saw quite a few Jewfish caught in the river, no monsters but very presentable fish. Flathead are full on with some big fish being hooked. The boaties seem to be getting most of the action but still the land based fishos are catching their share Lizards as well. Whiting are a hit and miss adventure with the hot spot this week being the shallows around Jerseyville. Through the Cut and up to Stuarts Point there have been a few Whiting and Flathead around the drop offs on the way up. The Break Wall has some nice Bream and Flathead around just on the tide changes. There has been the odd Tailor caught off the rocks maybe the result off the cooler water last week. Good numbers of Bream and Tahwine along with one or two Drummer coming in. Off the Beaches things were a little quite with a few Whiting and Bream off Smoky and Gap Beach. Hopefully this will pick up with the better water conditions. 24.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 12/06/20 It has been really great for our piece of paradise to see a lot of visitors out and about after the travel restriction have eased. Off shore the hot spot has been down south around Fish Rock and Green Island with good quality King Fish about and on the bite. Good numbers of Macks and Bonito continue to be in front of the Jail with Tailor in close on the troll. The Dot has been holding Morwong and the odd Snapper with a chance of a J...ewfish around that location. Up off Grassy Head a few Snapper have been in close with slow drop baits proving a successful method. Out on the wide grounds a few boats have lifted up some nice Cod in fairly ordinary conditions. The Break Wall has produced a few Jewfish through the week with a couple going 15 kilo plus. There are Shovelies along the Wall as well that will test your gear. Luderick are starting to appear on time with some nice fish amongst them, fishing from JewBite up river you best bet. Good numbers of Bream are entering our system and shouldnt be too long before the big winter units are here. Some nice Flathead were caught through the week, still ready to jump all over a variety of plastics or a well presented bait. You can still find a nice Whiting with upriver your best bet. We have had another productive week with Drummer off the rocks all the way from the Jail down to Hat Head. Good Bream are also in numbers while the Tailor may have dropped off through the week the quality has not. The beaches have been a hit and miss again with Smoky giving up a few Bream and the odd Tailor as has Gap Beach with one or two off Little Bay. Back Beach has had a run of Whiting late last week on worms. Take care on the Bars Paul Martin Rocks Marine Bait and Tackle
24.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 21/06/19 It has been a pick your day thing on the water with last week being a little bumpy earlier then flattening out with the south westers later in the week. The drop in water temperature has help with the Snapper numbers but no reports of big units coming in. On the other hand Pearl Perch up to 3 kilo are on the bite if you are lucky enough to drift over the right peak. There were has been the odd Sampson Fish up north past Grassy. Sarge...nt Bakers are in big numbers around the 30 to 40 meter mark so avoid them if you can. There are whispers of a few Leather Jackets starting to show up as well. In close off the Jail the Tailor were harder to find through the week but heading down to Fish Rock just a few fair King Fish amongst a heap of Rats were found. There were some stonker Bream pulled out of the river last week along the walls with a variety of baits enticing these fish. It was a little frustrating for the Luderick fishos with good numbers visible but at this stage not that hungry. They were a little more active over at the Cut with some nice fish coming in. Flathead are a little hard to find in the main river system but around the Clybucca creeks some Lizard action can be found. One crew of holiday makers put in the hours for a few nights in a row to find that elusive Jew but to no avail. Smoky Beach has been producing some nice Bream early morning but as mentioned earlier Tailor are no shows at the moment. Bream are also around the Boulders off Main Beach. The Rock ledges have been slow through the week hopefully we will get some swell coming in to pick it up. Take care on the Bars Paul Martin Rocks Marine Bait and Tackle

23.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 23/01/20 What an exciting week for the fisho’s with the appearance of small Black Marlin in numbers, we haven’t seen this for quite a few years. These fish are just off the Jail so they are accessible to all boat sizes. They are taking Live Bait and trolling lures and have been between 40 and 60 kg. Off Grassy Spotted Mackerel are about with the odd Spanish in the mix. On the bottom Snapper and a few Pearl Perch are coming in. The FAD has bee...n slow for the Dolphin Fish out wide; we need the current to take off again. No sign of any Wahoo yet but the odd Cobia are starting to show up. Fish Rock is loaded with Rat Kings at the moment. Plenty of Bait, hopefully we are heading for a spectacular season. There has been some good Flathead in the river which has been the highlight over the last two weeks for the holiday makers. Plenty of Whiting caught around Jerseyville and Clybucca on Nippers and Worms while there were a few Jews about off the Break Wall with the dirty water coming down, hopefully attracting some bigger units. Another successful Seabreeze Hotel Huge Fishing Comp with Brayden Cook and Tony Fazio taking out the $500 for the biggest Bream and Snapper prize respectively. A few North Easters have bumped up the beaches but Smoky is fishing well for Whiting and Bream in a wicked sideways sweep at the moment. Gap Beach is worth a go as well and little easier to fish. 23.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 25/09/20 First of all it’s a big welcome to all our holiday makers visiting our little piece of paradise over the next few weeks for the school holidays. It has been a bit of a mixed bag outside with the reefs off Grassy giving up a few Snapper and Pearl Perch off the bottom with the same results a little further up to Scotts. Off the wider grounds to the best of our knowledge the FAD has not been replaced at this stage after the annual ma...intenance but it will be there shortly to help with our Dolphin Fish season. Off the Jail we are starting to see a few Long Tail while out wide big numbers of Mowies are about. Fish Rocks has a heap of Rat Kings around it with one or two nice ones picked up through the week. Jewfish were caught off the Breakwall with night sessions your best bet. Bream are there but it’s finding the bigger units the problem, Gut bait seems to be working well. Flathead are in fair numbers, plenty of smaller lizards about which is a good sign for our river system. Whiting are starting to appear around Jerseyville and Clybucca but not with much size about them yet. There were a sprinkling of Luderick about through the week but it’s about time to rack up the gear after a really good Black fish season. Rock Hoppers are waiting for the warm currents to come in for their Pelagics but this week there were Drummer, Bream and Tarwhine with a nice Jewfish pulled up late last week. From all reports it has been tough to pull a fish out from the surf. Smoky Beach has a few Whiting, Bream and the odd Tailor coming in as has Gap Beach while Main Beach has some Bream and Whiting along it. Take care on the Bars Paul Martin Rocks Marine Bait and Tackle
23.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 13/03/20 Things are starting to return back to normal with some nice water coming down. The mackerel action around Grassy Head is still slow with only a few caught through the week but there are good numbers of Snapper coming in and water quality is improving every day so it wont be long before it produces Spotties again. It is a different story out in front of the Jail where between Jims hole and the Jail Peak Spotted Mackerel are in fai...r numbers with a few Cobia in the mix. One or two small Black Marlin have been hooked out of this location along with plenty of unwanted Sharks. Down towards Fish Rock, King Fish, good numbers of Mac Tuna and a few Long Tail Tuna are on the bite. The river continues to produce good Whiting off the Break Wall along with quality Bream taking live Worms and nippers. It is a mystery where the Jew Fish have gone but it is not only here, Port and Nambucca Rivers are shy of them as well. Flathead did not like that dirty water but as it clears good fish have been caught in front of the Tavern and the Boat Shed for the land based fishos, while up around Clybucca, Rainbow Reach and Stuarts Point Lizards to 80 cm have been caught. Jerseyville is fishing well with the better water quality holding Whiting around the shallows near the Bridge. Beach fishing has been very productive with Smoky and Gap Beach fishing well for good Whiting and quality Bream. Towards Hat Head Flathead are in numbers with some nice fish amongst them. Back Beach continues to have a Whiting or two while you will also get them around the Boulders on Main Beach. Plenty of action of the ledges this week with Drummer, Tuna and a 14 kilo Spanish caught through the week. 23.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 03/09/20 Good catches of Pearl Perch were found between Grassy and Scotts Head last week with some quality Snapper in the mix. There are plenty of Red Rock Cod about as well, don’t be in a hurry to throw them back if they are any size because they are a tasty treat. Out wider off the Jail there were some nice Cod lifted out of the deeper water. A few guys fished the Dot for a bag of Snapper, Morwong and Pig Fish. Down south to Fish Rock Ki...ng Fish were a little hard to find with a few of the fisho’s coming back empty. Cracker Bream are around Green Island in close; these fish are great fun on your light gear. Jewfish continued their run in the river with some nice fish caught through the week off the Break Wall using Pike and live Mullet. Luderick are definitely thinning out with a few in the bag from the river walls to the other side of the bridge in Back Creek. Bream are in numbers along the walls being caught on Mullet, pilchards, Worms and Nippers. Flathead seem to be more active with some nice fish caught around Clybucca and Jerseyville. Daiwa’s Double Clutch lures, Zerek Fish Traps, Samaki Vibes or a well presented Plastic will work on these fish. With Bass season now open head up river from Belmore to as far as you want to go and experience these majestic fishing locations. Rock Hoppers are catching Bream, Tarwhine, Drummer with a few small Kings in the mix while Smoky and Gap Beach have some nice Bream, Whiting and Flathead being caught. 21.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 03/05/19 With a little unsettled weather and some chop on the ocean this hasnt stopped the blue water fishos from getting out over the weekend for some great results. Spotted Mackerel around the 6 to 7 kilo mark are still in numbers off the northern reefs around Grassy, Scotts and Nambucca. There have been a few Spanish caught out of these locations but they are getting harder to find. Yellow Fin and Long Tail Tuna have been abou...t as well. On the bottom there are quality Pearl Perch and Snapper off Grassy head, well worth a hit if the Mackerel are not playing the game. Our record Wahoo season continues with some nice fish caught through the week. One of our local spearos was in the middle of a school of at least 50 off the Jail. Fishos had a more productive week with the Flathead in the river with some quality fish caught around Clybucca, Rainbow and Jerseyville. We still have clear water conditions so a little Scent on your lures may make all the difference. Good Bream are starting to come in to the river with some solid fish landed through the week. For the Crabbers Blue Swimmers are in fair numbers as well. Find the deeper holes and you should pull a School Jew out with fresh bait or a bigger Plastic. Tailor are in fair numbers here off the Rocks along our part of the coast taking Pilchards or Garfish. Off the beaches Smoky and Gap has some nice Bream and Tailor but get there before light for your best chance. There has been the odd Whiting still about but your best keeping that fresh Worm or Pippi and target that fat Sea Bream. Take care on the Bars Paul Martin Rocks Marine Bait and Tackle
21.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 6/09/19 We were blessed with perfect weather through the week and while conditions are good the time this report goes to print, the weekend forecast are saying swells are due to pick up to 3 meters plus. On the water Fishos are heading north to Scotts and further for a feed of bottom fish. Good Pearl Perch are coming in with fair Reds but most are out fairly wide around the 90 meter mark. Leather jackets are starting to thin out along this l...ine. Things have been a little slow in front of the Jail with the odd Red coming in with a few bottom feeders in the mix. Down south there were a few Kings around Green Island and Fish Rock but nothing to get excited about. The FAD is still out for maintenance and should be replaces in the next few weeks. It has been tough to pull a good Bream out of the river through the week but our fantastic Bream season had to come to an end sometime. Talking about coming to an end Luderick are just about done, you can see them but the boys tell me the bite is over. On the positive more Flathead have been reported around Clybucca, Jerseyville and Smithtown. There were a few School Jew caught through the week out of these locations. Off the beaches Gap Beach has fired up with Bream and Whiting taking worms with a Dart or two amongst them. Smoky Beach is a hit and miss thing with the odd Tailor along the beach with Bream and Whiting but a strong side sweep has been running all week. On a sad note Smithtown fisho and true gentleman Bob Wright passed away suddenly through the week, our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time. 21.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 12/04/19 With the memories of the sensational hot bite on the Wahoo the weekend before many boats ventured out in hope of a repeat performance. There were fish landed but not in numbers. Off Grassy and Scotts Head Spotties are being caught with a few Spanish in the mix. At the moment the southerly light winds are keeping the ocean conditions good. Long Tail Tuna have been off the northern reefs and of course the occasional Shark. Snapper and ...Pearlies have been on the bite for the bottom bashers with some really good fish amongst them. There were a few Wahoo caught through the week in front of the Jail with most succumbing to a trolled jet head shirt or a fast trolling hard body lure. Fish Rock and Green Island are holding a few Kings with the odd Tuna. Some nice Bream have started to come in to river taking baits along the Break wall with one or two around the kilo mark. Once again the Jewfish are slow with just a few Schoolies reported. Shovel nose sharks are in numbers off the wall as well. Flathead have been caught in front of the tavern and down towards the cleaning tables at the boat ramp for the land based fishos. The shallows at Jerseyville are holding late season Whiting taking nippers or worms. There are good bass up river biting so take advantage before the season closure on the 1st May. It was a little better on the beaches through the week with Smoky giving up Whiting and Bream with a few Dart still around. Rock hoppers are getting amongst some Tuna, King Fish and some nice Tailor that are starting to make an appearance off the ledges. Take care on the Bars Paul Martin Rocks Marine Bait and Tackle 1.One of the many Wahoo caught last weekend. 2.Check out the tag in Graeme Alans Flathead after checking with fisheries this fish was caught 2 months earlier about 200 meters away from its current location. 3.Hunting Mangrove Jack at night in the Macleay.

19.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 27/11/20 Conditions on the whole were pretty good last week but sadly the Northern reefs are failing to produce any quantity of fish. Grassy has a few Snapper with the odd Pearl Perch and Pig Fish coming in but nothing of any size. Sadly it was the same thing around Scotts Head apart from some fair Flathead on the gravel. Out wider at the FAD nice Dolphin Fish are starting to appear with a solid 16.5 kilo unit weighed in through the week. ...With another good sign of things to come, a majestic Marlin hooked just of the Jail. Fish Rock has some nice Kings coming up but you need to watch the 200 meter no bait rule because the drones are in play. Good Whiting are on the bite around Smithtown and Kinchela up river hopefully making their way down for the summer. There have been some nice Bream off the Breakwall with Gut, Nippers and Worms doing the trick. Good numbers of Flathead are also in the river system getting more active as the water warms. There have been a few Jew Fish coming in with the early mornings seeming to be more productive. 7 Jerk shads and paddle tails are working well on these majestic fish. Rocks hoppers are still getting the odd Drummer with a solid 2.5 kilo fish weighed last weekend. Kings are chasing metal slugs between 65 to 80gm from the Jail to the Lighthouse. There are plenty of Bream and Tarwhine to be caught if that’s your thing. Most beaches are producing Whiting, Bream and Dart with a few Flathead in the surf off Smoky Beach. Take care on the Bars Paul Martin Rocks Marine Bait and Tackle
18.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 10/07/20 This holiday period has certainly been productive on the water with plenty of fishing action about. Fisho’s heading south down to Fish Rocks and Green Island are having a ball with the King Fish. There are lots just on legal but amongst those there are big Kings to be caught. Jigs in close and bait like Garfish and live Bait out on 200 meter circle are doing the trick. Off the Jail Flathead on the gravel in front of the Lighthous...e in numbers while out off the Dot, Snapper, Mowies and the odd Jewfish have been about. Grassy has been producing some nice Snapper in close with a few Pearl Perch in the mix while good numbers of Leather Jackets are in the deeper water. There were a few Jewfish around through the week with the full moon, caught mainly off the Breakwall in the dark. Thumper Bream continue to haunt the walls with Herring, Mullet and gut proving reliable baits. The Luderick run continues around Jew bite to the Fence also with good numbers off the North Wall around the White Rock area. Flathead have been on the drift from there up to Kemps Corner with some nice fish amongst them. Off the Rocks Fisho’s are getting some nice Tailor with a few Kings in the mix while in close Drummer and Luderick are still in good numbers. On the beaches Back Beach is fishing well for Flathead around the entrance on a run out tide. Smoky and Gap have good numbers of Tailor early with quality Bream along the gutters. So set your alarm and get out there before light. Take care on the Bars Paul Martin Rocks Marine Bait and Tackle
18.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 10/01/20 Firstly from all of us here at Rocks Marine Bait and Tackle we wish you all a happy and safe new year and we thank you for your continued support last year. We should be used to it but the North Easters battered us again over Xmas but with a few days of South between them Fishos got out to wet a line. Grassy head fished ok for a few Snapper and Tuskies but the water went cold and with that came only a sniff of Spotted Mackerel with... only two or three caught. Out on the wide grounds in great water Dolphin Fish were around the FAD but have thinned out over the last week. One or two Bar Cod have been lifted around the same location. There have been small Blacks in front of the Jail with a Striped Marlin around 90 kilo caught in 40 meters. Kings are around Fish Rock amongst the Rats with a few Cobia starting to show up around Black Rock. The River has been a little tough with some nice Flathead coming in and with a few Bream along the walls you should get yourself a feed. Whiting are still way up river starting from Jerseyville right up to Fredo. The Break Wall is giving up a few Jew Fish but nothing of any size. If you head up through the cut towards Stuarts Point you should find a Whiting there. Heaps of Bass are schooling around Green Hills, waiting for the rains to get up river, they are a great sport fish but please release them back in to the pools. Smoky Beach has good numbers of Whiting coming in with lots of throw backs but the odd nice fish amongst them. Bream, Dart and Flathead have also been in the mix. Gap Beach is also worth a fish with a few Tailor hanging around during first light. Take care on the Bars Paul Martin Rocks Marine Bait and Tackle
18.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 03/01/19 Happy new year everyone lets hope it is a great one. I will start with the bad news first, North Easter winds to 50k were had from Boxing day to now leaving many fishos frustrated and maybe a little too much time in the pub, but it is now starting to drop off. Check our Facebook site for updates as soon as I hear anything from outside. As a backup the river has been fishing well. Flathead are in good numbers from Jerseyville d...own to the mouth of the river. Clybucca through to Stuarts Point has some cracker Flathead and Whiting coming in. Double Clutch and Sugar Pen lures are working a treat on these fish. Along the Break Wall there has been the odd Jewfish caught with some big Fork Tail Cat Fish that will test your lighter gear out. Good quality Bream are around the Oyster Racks, just floating a lure between them should get you some action but you might want to up your leader. On the beaches Whiting are in good numbers with Dart and Bream. Smoky Beach is fishing well and has very little red weed compared to the beaches down south. Back Beach has a few Whiting and Flathead with early morning more productive. Take care on the Bars Paul Martin Rocks Marine Bait and Tackle

17.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 23/01/20 What an exciting week for the fishos with the appearance of small Black Marlin in numbers, we havent seen this for quite a few years. These fish are just off the Jail so they are accessible to all boat sizes. They are taking Live Bait and trolling lures and have been between 40 and 60 kg. 16.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 06/12/19 Much better conditions last week saw many guys hit the ocean to head out for a day on the water. The water temp has gone cold with the North Easters so it has been a little tough out there. Grassy produced a few Snapper and Pearl Perch on the bottom with better results out in around 60 meters. Out at the FAD there are some Dolphin Fish but it has been a little hit and miss over the last few weeks. There were no reports of any Pelagic...s through the week but it wont be long. Down south to Fish Rock you will find King Fish with the odd Snapper in close on Plastics. One again our river is giving up plenty of Flathead with many caught over 80cm. Live herring and Mullet seem to be doing the trick but they also are a sucker for a well presented Plastic lure. Good numbers of Whiting are about around the shallows at Jerseyville with Nippers and Worms the gun bait. This is the time to use the Sugarpens our other surface lures to entice these tasty critters. There are still the odd Jewfish being caught off the Break Wall while in close Bream are in numbers. Bass fishing past Kempsey is full on with stacks of fish on the bite at the moment. The boys tell me Spinner Baits are working well up there. On the beaches Smoky has been fishing well for Whiting and Bream with a few Flathead as well in the mix. Gap beach has been ok with a few Whiting and Dart in the bag. Main beach in town is tough with plenty of swimmers here at the moment but nice Bream are being caught late afternoon around the Boulders. 16.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 24/04/20 We have been blessed with another week of perfect conditions, blue water and flat oceans. It has been like a car park off Grassy with locals having it all to themselves as good numbers of Spotted Mackerel were caught through the week. Spanish were a little harder to find but the ones caught were quality fish. The boys that bottom bounce didnt miss out either with some nice Reds about around Grassys wider grounds and up towards S...cotts Head. There were a few Pearl Perch, Tuskies and the odd Trag out of the same location. Out in front of the Jail there has been one or two Wahoo and Cobia about with some nice Jewfish reported as well. Fish Rock has a few Kings and the odd Pelagic showing up down south. Flathead have been on the bite around the Boat ramp and down in front of the Tavern. If you can find some Herring you will be on track for that nice Lizard in the bag. Good numbers of Bream along the walls but they are mainly smaller fish at the moment. Up river to Kinchela good Whiting are still on the bite with some nice fish caught in the darker hours. A few schools of Blackfish are starting to come into the River and Creek, early days but the odd one has been caught already. Dont worry if you cant get green weed yet, the weed flies are doing the trick. Off the rocks good Kingfish have been caught with a few around the 10 kilo mark. Tuna and Bonito are in numbers as well. Off the Beaches the Whiting are starting to slow down on Smoky and Gap Beach but some nice Bream Tailor were caught last week along with a few Flathead in the calm conditions. 15.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 30/11/18 Winds, Northeaster, Southwester all directions, that was the story last week. There was a day or two through the week where fishos managed to get out there. Fish Rock is really firing up for Kings and there are some big units amongst the Rats. Good schools of baitfish have moved in which is always a good sign. Out wide off the Jail there were a few Marlin caught in some great looking water. Dolphin fish are around the FAD as are som...e nice Bar Cod in that deeper water. Up north off Grassy Snapper, Pearlies and Trag were on the bottom, not in any numbers though and no sign of any toothy critters yet. There are a few Sharks about, right on que for the Mackerel season. With that wind that was about last week it was a good time to head up past Kempsey and hunt for those majestic Australian Bass. Right now they are smashing surface lures and producing quality fish. Whiting are still around Smithtown with Flathead in the darker water. Jerseyville, around the Boat ramp and the Bridge Bream are in close with some quality Lizards on the flats. There were a few small Kings caught along the Break Wall on the fuller tides but unfortunately not much else to report. It was a little slow on our town beaches with just the odd Whiting and Bream about. Gap and Smoky beach fared better with good numbers of Dart and Whiting and a few Tailor still lurking around. Off Smoky past Black Rock toward the Hat a couple of Jewfish have been pulled out of the surf. Take care on the Bars Paul Martin Rocks Marine Bait and Tackle
15.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 07/02/20 What a week, we needed the rain but the wind has been a pain. There were a few keen fisho,s headed out through the week but all finding the conditions very uncomfortable. The good news is the sea temps are rising again and nice warm currents are heading south so it is looking good once the weather settles. But this week all the positive reports are coming from Fish Rock where there were some nice King Fish pulled out, but unless you ...have iron guts, take a pill because its rough. There has been plenty of Bait on the bait grounds but no reports of any Pelagics or bottom fish this week. The river is dirty but good Bream have been caught along the Break Wall on the tide changes. You will lose some gear but for that classic 40cm Bream its worth it. There has been the odd Jewfish out of the same location but this should improve on the full moon due this week. Up river Flathead are in fair numbers around the boat ramp and out of the hole in front of the Tavern. Spencers Creek has a few Flathead, Bream and Whiting also its worth throwing a Crab trap in there for a Muddy or two. Clybucca has a few Flathead hanging in the mouth of the small creeks as the tide starts to run out. Smoky Beach has been hard to fish in these current conditions but there are reports of some nice Whiting and Bream out of the surf. Gap Beach may offer a little more protection from the elements and you normally come home with a feed from this location. Take care on the Bars Paul Martin Rocks Marine Bait and Tackle

14.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 16/10/20 From all reports it was a little hit and miss out on the water through the week. The reefs up north had a few Snapper coming up with some Tusk Fish and Pearl Perch. Out wide the current is ripping south in purple water but back in close it has been somewhat murky. Off the Dot Mowies and a few Small Snapper while Rocks in Line produced some fair King Fish. Down south Green Island has the odd thumper Bream around it with a King or t...wo if you’re lucky. Fish Rock has lots of Rat Kings on the bite with a few legal units amongst them. Nothing to report on the FAD at this early stage. There were a few Jewfish pulled out of the Macleay through the week but you need to wait until the sun sets. There were some nice Flathead caught past Jerseyville, not monsters but good eating size. Whiting are starting to move with some nice fish caught in the shallows around the Bridge. Rainbow Reach has had a few Soapy Jews caught taking Vibes and Plastics. Bream are in good numbers along the walls around the boat shed, through the Cut to Clybucca. There are some whiting getting up around Fisherman’s Reach on the full water. Back creek also fished well for Flathead on the high tide up around the mangroves. It has been slim picking along the beaches with Smoky the best with a few Bream, Whiting and Dart on worms. It has been very quiet on Back Beach while Main Beach is giving up a few Bream around the Boulders and small Whiting along the beach. Take care on the Bars Paul Martin Rocks Marine Bait and Tackle
14.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 16/08/19 Favorable conditions through last week saw plenty of fishos hit the water to try and get a feed. Blue water guys headed north for good numbers of Pearl Perch off Grassy and Scotts Head. Fish were caught in 25 meters and wider off the landmarks with some fish around the 3.5 kilo mark. There were a few Snapper amongst them but at this stage no size about them. Off the Jail there wasnt a lot caught apart from a few Flathead on the gra...vel. Fish Rock continues to fire with King Fish in abundance jumping on pretty well anything you through at them. Green Island has Kings as well with some monster Bream in close. Leather Jackets are still out past 60 meters but if you can through them you will find a Snapper or two on the bottom. I am not sure if its after the spawn or on the full moon but Blackfish are about and there hungry, with the Break Wall your best bet to hook these fish. Bream are still in numbers but that bigger unit is a little harder to find now. Up river around Jerseyville you should find a Bream or a School Jewfish around the pylons of the Bridge at night. Throw some lures around the drop off on the river at the moment and you will snag a Flathead, not much size about them mostly around 40 to 50 cm. No reports of Jew last week but the river has gone very clear again especially at the mouth. On the beaches they are getting the odd good Bream off Smoky with a few Tailor in the mix along with some early Whiting coming in as well. Gap has been producing Tailor with the north side of the beach fishing better. Flathead were caught off Back Beach near the opening of the creek through the week. Rock Hoppers are getting amongst some big Kings off the ledges. Take care on the Bars Paul Martin Rocks Marine Bait and Tackle
13.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 14/08/20 Over the last 2 weeks it has been slim pickings off Grassy Head with the Snapper a little harder to find. The numbers were better if you headed north to Scotts Head with some nice fish caught there. Out a little wider there have been the odd Pearl Perch coming in. Leather Jackets continue to be a pest out past 60 meters. Green Island is giving up a few Kings as is Fish Rock using Knife Jigs and Plastic Baits in close. There have b...een good reports of Snapper off Hat Head through the week. Luderick are still in good numbers in the river around the Jew Bite area and also off the jetty in Back Creek towards the mouth of the Creek. Once again there were some good Flathead caught through the week on Plastics and various hard body lures. Bream are along the walls with the odd thumper amongst them, Nippers, Worms, Pilchards and Mullet with work for you. Further up river Flathead and a few Whiting are starting to show up around Kinchella and Smithtown. There were whispers of a few good Jewfish coming out of the Macleay during the darker hours. Rock Hoppers are still getting amongst quality Drummer every day, by far the best season we have seen for a while. The odd Tailor are about with plenty of Bream, Tarwhine and Trevally to keep you interested. The Beaches have been a little slow with Smoky getting a heap of crap washed up making it hard to fish but giving up a bream or two with the odd Tailor. Take care on the Bars Paul Martin Rocks Marine Bait and Tackle
13.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 22/02/19 The question on every blue water fishers lips; where are the Mackerel off Grassy and the Dolphin Fish out wide around the FAD. We have beautiful water condition, warm and cobalt but apart from the odd Spanish up North it remains a mystery. Its not all bad news there though; Dylan Perry and his mate Lockie landed a nice 14kilo Cobia off Grassy. There are reports wider in about 100 meters good quality Pearl Perch are being landed. ...Out in front of the Jail the fishing has been slow with a few small Blacks hooked early in the week. Fish Rock is loaded with Rat Kings and you will battle to get a legal unit. There were some good results out of the river through the week with a few Jewfish young Cobia and a few Kings caught from the end of the Break wall, both the north and south side up to the Boat Ramp. There are enough Flathead to keep you interested throughout the river system with plenty of legal Bream and Moses Perch along the walls. Back Creek produced some respectable Whiting and Flathead towards the Causeway in those big tides we had last week. From all reports the rock hoppers are having a very lean time of it; we are all hoping the big seas will stir things up and bring the bite back on. On the beaches its kind of the same story with no gutters to speak of the fishing has been tough apart from a few Whiting, Bream, Dart and Flathead on Smoky, Gap and Main Beach. Take care on the Bars Paul Martin Rocks Marine Bait and Tackle
13.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 28/06/19 On the hole it was a quite week here at the Rocks. Because of some very welcome rain in our area and those cold wintery morning conditions, most fishos chose to stay in bed. It did improve as the week went on and a few guys ventured out in lumpy conditions for some Snapper up north in close and with a mixture of bottom dwellers in the box made it worthwhile. Also in close Tailor were caught on the troll while Green Island had good n...umbers of Kings around it for a feed. The Bar was up for most of the week so we are lucky to have the Jail boat ramp as a safer option. It is looking like we may have a productive Luderick season with good numbers of fish being landed in multiple locations. I want to put a cheer out for a keen young local, seven year old Olivia Wright, under the watchful eye of Grandpa Charlie managed her first bag out on Blackfish off the Wall with the best going .750kg cleaned. Great job Olivia and lets hope we can keep kids fishing. Good numbers of Bream are in the river at the moment and the recent rains will only improve the situation. The timid Flathead this time of the year should fish better with some color in the water. There were a few Jewfish pulled out of the river last week also more active due to the conditions. Most beaches and Headlands have some nice Bream running, we did get a report of a 4 pounder caught of ledges off Horseshoe Bay. Smoky Beach has fished well for Whiting through the week with a few Tailor, Bream and Dart in the mix. Take care on the Bars Paul Martin Rocks Marine Bait and Tackle
13.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 03/04/20 Well, after many weeks we finally have great water off Grassy Head. This has brought good numbers of Spotted Mackerel and the odd Spanish back to this area. On the bad side this area is loaded with Sharks praying on your catch. A few Fisho’s are also heading further north with some good results. On the bottom there are a few Reds coming in but mostly just legal fish with the odd Pearl Perch amongst them. Off the Jail there have be...en a few Spotted Mackerel with a couple of nice Wahoo starting to show up. Mac Tuna are in good numbers along the coast with a thumper or two amongst them. Kings are around Fish Rock and Green Island while Black Rock is still holding a few Mackerel and Cobia. You will need to search for bait because the normal Bait grounds have been slow. It has been tough to find that elusive Jewfish in the river so maybe search for one of those monster Macleay Flathead that have been showing up over the last few weeks. Bream are all along the walls but the big units are missing in action this week. Whiting and Flathead are around Clybucca up to Fisherman’s in fair numbers with a run in tide more productive. Past Jerseyville the Whiting numbers are good taking Nippers and Worms. Rock Hoppers are getting amongst some nice Tailor with a few Kings and Tuna. One or two Spanish have been caught off the ledges around Hat Head. The beaches all are fishing well for Whiting and Bream with Smoky giving up a few Tailor in the mix. 13.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 19/07/19 Apart from the crisp mornings the ocean conditions were good for the last week of the holidays. Plenty of Fishos took advantage of this and headed out for some great results. Fish Rock has been on fire with quality King Fish coming in, with most getting their bag of 5. Green Island is holding Kings as well with some cracker Bream in close. Out off the Dot Snapper are in good numbers while up North to Grassy, Scotts Head and Nambucca... quality Snapper to 7 kilos have been landed. Pearl Perch are about with some good fish amongst them. There were a few Leather Jackets out there wider but not in big numbers yet. Flathead are starting to show up around Clybucca taking plastic baits in a few meters of water. Bream continue to be in big numbers along the walls with plenty reported over the 40 cm mark. Luderick have slowed a little through the week but still good fish are coming in from various locations along the Break Wall. It is hard to report on the river Jewfish because fishos keep that info close to their chest but there were whispers of a few caught during the night last weekend. Whiting have made a return to the beaches with Smoky Beach getting good results on the rising tide. There were plenty of Bream to be caught here as well along with North Smoky and Gap Beach. Not a lot of Tailor again this week but there were some nice fish amongst the few that were caught. Main Beach has a few Bream and Whiting coming in around the Boulders. Rock Hoppers battled with some King Fish, Tailor, Bream and Tarhwine locally with the odd Drummer and Luderick pulled out as well. Take care on the Bars Paul Martin Rocks Marine Bait and Tackle
12.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 24/04/20 We have been blessed with another week of perfect conditions, blue water and flat oceans. It has been like a car park off Grassy with locals having it all to themselves as good numbers of Spotted Mackerel were caught through the week. Spanish were a little harder to find but the ones caught were quality fish. The boys that bottom bounce didn’t miss out either with some nice Reds about around Grassy’s wider grounds and up towards S...cotts Head. Don’t worry if you can’t get green weed yet, the weed flies are doing the trick. Off the rocks good Kingfish have been caught with a few around the 10 kilo mark. Tuna and Bonito are in numbers as well. 11.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 02/08/19 Typical August winds were with us last week which made for uncomfortable conditions on the water. Those that went out were rewarded with some nice fish. Off the Northers reefs Snapper are still on the chew around Grassy and Scotts Head with a few Pearl Perch, Trag and a good numbers of Tuskies. Off the Jail there were a few smaller Snapper, Morwong and Pig Fish off the Dot with the odd Leather Jacket making its presents felt. Down So...uth the King Fish have slowed down a little with the odd big unit still lurking around Fish Rock. Good numbers of Tailor are hitting a trolled lure in close off the Jail down to the Light House. One of our Charter boats went out wide to the Shelf for two big Dolphin Fish around the 14 kilo mark. Our river continues to be in the middle of a fantastic Bream season with good numbers of quality fish landed in plenty of locations throughout the Macleay. Luderick have been a hit and miss thing with most fishos getting a handful each trip. Flathead were harder to find last week with success coming from Clybucca, Jerseyville and up towards Smithtown. One or two Jewfish have been pulled out with the recent rains but you need that live bait to attract their attention. GTs are starting to show up around the Jerseyville Bridge along with a few Schoolies around the Pylons. Good numbers of Tailor were along Smoky Beach through the week with some nice Bream in the bag as a backup. There were reports of Salmon coming through last week in big schools but confirmation would be good. Rock hoppers are getting amongst some nice Tailor with the odd King Fish being caught off the light House. Take care on the Bars Paul Martin Rocks Marine Bait and Tackle
10.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 13/09/19 It was a tough week with strong winds hammering the east coast most fishos chose to stay home. Conditions improved towards the end of the week with guys staying in close. Fish Rock produced a few King Fish on Jigs and lures. Off the Jail there were Mowies, smaller Snapper and Pig Fish. Off Grassy and Scotts the reports were thin with Pearl Perch, Trag and a few Snapper. Rock Cod and Sargents are about everywhere. Flathead are on th...e gravel in front of the Jail if you are battling for a feed. Just when you thought the Luderick were on their way out we had bag outs through the week mostly on synthetic weed flies. Local Charlie Wright braved the windy conditions and got his bag off the Break wall. Bream were harder to find along the walls a little rain wouldnt go astray to colour the water. Flathead were found in deeper water with some nice fish coming from the north wall, Rainbow and Jerseyville. Around through the Cut Whiting are in the shallows up to Fishermans Reach and Stuarts Point jumping all over pumped Nippers. Heres something you dont see every day, a group of Mudgee boys here for a week fished Gap Beach. Matt Cowden was fishing a standard beach rod with 2 hooks and a worm, hooked what he thought to be a Jewfish and after 1 hour with this monster and a little help from Nathan Moore and Mick Brennan who jumped in to the surf break and grabbed the tail of a very tired King Fish. It went just under 25kilo and 1.4meters long, sensational job boys, hope to see you next year. Anything is possible you never know what you will catch here at south west rocks. 07.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 13/03/20 Things are starting to return back to normal with some nice water coming down. The mackerel action around Grassy Head is still slow with only a few caught through the week but there are good numbers of Snapper coming in and water quality is improving every day so it won’t be long before it produces Spotties again. Flathead did not like that dirty water but as it clears good fish have been caught in front of the Tavern and the Boat Shed for the land based fisho’s, while up around Clybucca, Rainbow Reach and Stuarts Point Lizards to 80 cm have been caught. 06.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 14/08/20 Over the last 2 weeks it has been slim pickings off Grassy Head with the Snapper a little harder to find. 06.01.2022 Correction to fishing report for the 2/8/19. Good numbers of King Fish around Green Island and Fish Rock. Thanks to my locals that keep me informed.
05.01.2022 Shimanos Last Man Standing - Kicking off on October 1st!
05.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 17/01/20 I am happy to report the first run of Spotted Mackerel have arrived through the week off Grassy Head with a couple of crews bagging out on these toothy critters. Sadly conditions changed and they disappeared but they will be back with a vengeance. There have been some nice Reds out of the same area with one or two Pearl Perch in the bag as well. Off the Jail small Black Marlin are in close with most hooked around the 40 kilo mark. Ou...t at the FAD a few Dolphin Fish are around it but you need to be early on the marks. Mack Tuna and the odd Yellow Fin were reported out the front with a run of Bonito in close. Green Island and Fish Rock are giving up a King or two around them. Land based fishos are struggling to hook a nice Flathead in the river, I would be trying in front of the Tavern on the tide turn, its a little snaggy but good drop offs produce good fish. Rainbow Reach can also be a good location with School Jew, Flathead and Bream that haunt that deeper water. Clybucca has been productive with Whiting and Flathead in numbers for the boaties. A few Mangrove Jacks are starting to appear in the deeper holes up river and dont be surprised if there is a Cobia or two around your boat. Herring are in numbers again around the jetties and ramps, worth the effort for great bait. The beaches are now starting to fire up with Smoky Beach fishing well for nice Whiting, Dart and Bream on worms and Pippis. Gap Beach has been good while Little Bay has a few Whiting coming in. Back Beach can be a hot spot for sand Flathead at the mouth on a run out tide using Whitebait on a small ganged hook. Take care on the Bars Paul Martin Rocks Marine Bait and Tackle
05.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 05/07/19 Not a great deal to report from outside last week with big swells and an ugly river Bar only a few battled the conditions to try and get a feed. Off Grassy and Scotts there were some nice Snapper coming in off the close grounds. Green Island and Fish Rock has been holding King Fish but it has been uncomfortable fishing. Down towards Hat Head Leather Jackets are starting to make an appearance and reports are that down around Port Macq...uarie they are thick. On the positive side our river is fishing well for Bream and there are plenty of good fish amongst them. Off the Break Wall you will find Bream up to 40cm using Gut, Mullet and Prawns. Blackfish continue to be in good numbers along the walls and it is well on the way to being one of our better seasons for some time. If you havent fished for these sport fish before come in and see us and we will set you up with the basics to catch these tasty fish. The recent rain has turned on our resident Jewfish with some nice fish caught through the week. There were a few Flathead caught but they are getting harder to find as the water cools. Estuary Cod are appearing throughout the river system but be careful they are a still a protected species. The beaches have been up with the big swells but if you can get on Smoky Beach good Bream are running now with some nice Tailor early mornings. Rock hoppers are getting amongst Drummer, Bream and Tailor all with a watchful eye on the rising seas. Take care on the Bars Paul Martin Rocks Marine Bait and Tackle

04.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 25/09/20 First of all it’s a big welcome to all our holiday makers visiting our little piece of paradise over the next few weeks for the school holidays.
04.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 24/05/19 You couldnt have wished for better conditions last week on the ocean and with the warm water and no wind to speak of plenty of Fishos hit the water in what was a very productive week. Spotties are still with us along with the odd Spanish off Grassy and Scotts Head. Some of these fish were caught off the bottom, not uncommon this time of the year. Good Snapper and Pearl Perch are starting to be a little more active out of the same a...rea. Off the Jail Cobia, a lonely Wahoo and some nice Yellow Fin to 15 kilos were caught in about 22 to 23 degree water. If you are struggling for a feed good Flathead are on the gravel in front of the Lighthouse. Some bigger King Fish have moved into Fish Rock with good fish caught through the week. The river Breakwall has fish well for King Fish with one holidaying couple hooking 4 in the dark on an incoming tide close to the mouth on Lunds Squid. There were a few Jewfish reported in the deeper holes up river near Jerseyville. Once again the Bream have been feeding along the walls along with some nice Luderick. Flathead will be harder to find as the water cools but some nice fish were landed around Clybucca on Whitebait and Mullet. We have had good reports from Smithtown with plenty of Flathead, Bream and a few Whiting coming in up river. Rock Hoppers are cheering with some nice Kings caught through the week with Tailor, Drummer, Luderick and Bream off the ledges in front of the Jail down to Hat Head. Off the Beaches Tailor were a hit and miss thing with Smoky Beach your best bet. Good numbers of Bream are coming in off Smoky, Gap and Main beach around the Boulders. We have quality Gar Fish in the shop in kilo and kilo packs at the moment; they are like lollypops to the big Greenbacks. Take care on the Bars Paul Martin Rocks Marine Bait and Tackle
04.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 03/09/20 Good catches of Pearl Perch were found between Grassy and Scotts Head last week with some quality Snapper in the mix. 03.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 15/02/19 There is some good news this week with a return of a few Mackerel off Grassy and Scotts Head. Water conditions are spot on but just a sprinkling of fish in it. The bottom bashers are getting the odd Snapper, Perch and assorted reef fish out a little wider with a good current running. Out wide at the FAD Dolphin Fish hard to find in the good water. In front of the Jail once again there were a few Cobia caught with the odd small Blac...k Marlin hooked in close. Sharks are in numbers like one kayaker found out when he had 4 around his craft then losing his hooked Marlin to one, snapped just behind the gills. Fish Rock and Green Island are producing King Fish with no size about them. Live Bait are in fair numbers off the bait grounds. Off the Break Wall some Kings have fallen for bait as have the odd Cobia. One or two Jewfish were also caught through the week. Bream and Flathead are in good numbers out of the same location. In front of the Tavern Flathead are being pulled out of the snaggy drop offs. Whiting are still up river from Jerseyville to Smithtown, a small flushing would be nice to bring them out to the beaches. Boaties are getting some Flathead around Clybucca and towards Stuarts Point. I would love to say the beaches are firing but I cant theres a lot of water between the fish but Smoky is your best bet if you can find a gutter to fish out of. 02.01.2022 Fish report from South West Rocks 8/02/19 It has been a slow road back to some reasonable fishing outside after the cool water moved in a few weeks ago. The end of the week saw a few Snapper being boated off Grassy and a little further towards Nambucca. One or two Trag and Pearl Perch were in the mix. With the water back up to 24 degrees hopefully the weekend action will be full on. There are a heap of Sharks wasting your time at the moment but hang in it just might be that... prize Cobia you have been chasing. The FAD has been quite with only a few small Dollies. Off the Jail a few Cobia reported but there is a lot of water between them. Live bait has been in good numbers, that a positive. If you are searching for that monster Flathead now is the time with some great lizards being caught throughout the river system. Whiting are on the bite around the shallows off Jerseyville, a good time to try those surface lures on very light gear instead of the mainstay worm or Nipper. Bream are in good numbers along the walls with some solid fish amongst them. More reports of Kings and Cobia off the North Wall with a few Jew earlier in the week. Live bait is the way to go to entice these fish. Smoky Beach fished fair through the week but there are no gutters to speak of making it difficult to find the fish. Main Beach has a few Bream around the Boulders with the odd Whiting amongst the Stingrays. Off the ledges there has been a King Fish or two with plenty of Bream and Tarwhine, but all in all a slow week off the rock ledges. Take care on the Bars Paul Martin Rocks Marine Bait and Tackle
