25.01.2022 Rocks Riverside parkrun is only a success thanks to our parkrunners who run or walk and also regularly volunteer. Parkrun does not happen without them. Each week we are going to feature some of these wonderful folk who are the glue that keep our parkrun going. First up is Michelle AGE: 54 (very soon)... ALWAYS BEEN A RUNNER? Definitely not! A bookworm and sideline supporter to my familys multiple sporting activities until my late forties. Was inspired by my brother running his first marathon. Running, I discovered, could fit into my lifestyle and provided both physical and mental health benefits (the running high!!). I was hooked! FAVOURITE VOLUNTEER ROLE? Pacing. Absolutely love encouraging others. BEST THINGS ABOUT ROCKS RIVERSIDE PARKRUN - The inspirational parkrun community - Sifelani, James, Maria, Alan, Tanya, Sebastian, Pam, Neil, Clare, Ada, Jahnee, Tim, Mal, Zoe, Chelle G etc - Lovely friendships that have survived COVID - Watching my awesome 75yr old Mum completing the 5km most weeks (especially as she comes all the way from Ipswich) - Steve and Margot from Intraining. who coached me to my first marathon - The picturesque course - Enthusiastic Run Directors (big shout out!!) & all the volunteers!!! SATURDAY MORNING INSTEAD OF PARKRUN? #notparkrun but usually a bit longer than 5km DOGS OR CATS? Definitely dogs, helped by the fact that most of my household is allergic to cats! FUN FACT: I exited the plane at the same time as Keanu Reeves on a flight back from LA. All attempts to discretely follow him around at the baggage carousel were thwarted by a wonky trolley that veered in the opposite direction.

24.01.2022 This is Tanya. On Saturday Tanya ran 42.2km. She did it to honour a life that was taken far too soon. What is even more remarkable is that inbetween the first leg of 21.1km and second leg of 21.1km she went shopping! Im in awe. AGE: Old enough to have done most things once and yet young enough to try again. JOB: Customer Service Officer... BORN: Brisbane WHAT WERE YOU LIKE AS A KID? Very shy and so not a runner or athletic at all. TOP 3 PARKRUNS? Sandgate, Maribyrnong, Augustine Heights FAVOURITE VOLUNTEER POSITION: Timekeeper & RD GREATEST DISTANCE TRAVELLED FOR PARKRUN? Maribyrnong, Victoria SATURDAY MORNINGS INSTEAD OF PARKRUN? catching some ZZZZZZZZZs CATS OR DOGS? Cats SONG GUARANTEED TO GET YOU ON THE DANCEFLOOR? Youre not likely to see me on any dancefloor no matter the song! See more

23.01.2022 We ask that the request below from parkrun HQ is adhered to, please! The sooner people start respecting this the sooner parkrun will resume. Stay safe all, the RRp Event Team

23.01.2022 Please read this information released yesterday by parkrun HQ. We are really interested to hear your feedback....from both a runner and volunteer perspective! Please comment below, send us a message or an email The event team have had quite a discussion already and have identified a few areas that will need adjustment due to our large number of participants. Please note...there is NO start up date suggested for Australia at this time.

23.01.2022 Yay for the Northern Territory! A positive step forward for Australia. Queensland unfortunately does not fit within government guidelines. In addition to name and email addresses, the Qld government currently requires a contact phone number for each participant, volunteer and spectator, along with the time in / out of the venue, which we are unable to support at this time.

23.01.2022 What is everyone doing this morning instead of parkrun? Wed love to hear Feel free to add photos too! What is everyone doing this morning instead of parkrun? Wed love to hear Feel free to add photos too!

21.01.2022 If youve been with us at Rocks for a while youll know the delightful Anna. Anna was a Run Director for many years before taking a parkrun break but is looking forward to joining us again with her growing family. Anna also bakes a mean sourdough! AGE: 32 JOB: Fitness instructor/current stay at home mum/jack of all trades (Ive had lots of weird jobs). WHERE WERE YOU BORN, WHAT WERE YOU LIKE AS A KID? Brisbane (boring), and loud, social and lazy. Not much has changed!... TOP 3 PARKRUNS: Geographe Bay WA (what a spectacular view), Kawana (also for the views) and South Bank, where its all started for me, though I havent done the current course. GREATEST DISTANCE TRAVELLED TO A PARKRUN: Bois de Boulogne in Paris. I was pregnant and we were running so late and then missed the turn off and I cried. I blame hormones. Thankfully the run director slept in so we made it anyway! ONE THING ILL NEVER EAT: I eat pretty much everything, but I cannot fathom why anyone would want to eat an oyster. SATURDAY MORNING INSTEAD OF PARKRUN: Currently wrangling a toddler and a newborn, but I cant wait to get back to parkrun once covid settles and I can run again post baby. CATS OR DOGS?: I do love both but dogs. I would bring Rocky my naughty Jack Russell back to parkrun if he was better behaved! See more

21.01.2022 Monday night meet up with Brad. One of the Rocks "originals". I vote he leads us in the Nutbush first week back...whos with me?? AGE: 42 JOB: I used to fly for the RAAF but now my wife Reeda and I run oilsforlife.com.au... WHERE WERE YOU BORN AND WHAT WERE YOU LIKE AS A KID? I grew up in Melbourne and I was an excellent child, much better than my younger siblings (typical first born). TOP 3 PARKRUNS...NOT INCLUDING RR? Augustine Heights was where I was running before we started at Rocks. White Rock, because it is trails and I finished first there the one time I ran. Main Beach, where it started in Australia and a good one to do when down the coast. FAVOURITE VOLUNTEER POSITION? Run Director, because you get a chance to meet new people while everyone is running. GREATEST DISTANCE TRAVELLED TO A PARKRUN? Nonsuch parkrun in the UK, not the reason for the trip, but my only overseas parkrun. ONE THING YOU WILL NEVER EAT? The stalk of broccoli, it is only there to hold the broccoli off the ground. SATURDAY MORNING INSTEAD OF PARKRUN? Recently it has been mountain bike riding. My running is getting worse because of all the riding. CATS OR DOGS? We just got a kitten to help the kids through homeschooling and she is great fun, but our dog lived 18yrs. I am not a fan of other peoples pets though. SONG GUARANTEED TO GET YOU ON THE DANCEFLOOR? I can Nutbush with my eyes closed.

20.01.2022 Morning all, With the current situation of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) all parkruns in Australia & New Zealand have been cancelled effective immediately. We will be sure to keep you updated on when we will be returning.

Launceston and Queens Domain in Hobart and Sunshine Beach twice (three times actually but forgot my tag once) GREATEST DISTANCE TRAVELLED TO A PARKRUN? Hobart. RR is only 1.3km from home and it is too far! ONE THING YOU WILL NEVER EAT? Poison SATURDAY MORNING INSTEAD OF PARKRUN? Sleep, I no longer know what day it is anyway! Or preparing for my new career gambling on the horses as its the only sport left other than Moscow Table Tennis. CATS OR DOGS? Fish and kangaroos SONG GUARANTEED TO GET YOU ON THE DANCEFLOOR? 18.01.2022 Some might say we are creatures of habit Were not back on sadly but here are some pics from my morning walk. Happy Saturday, Robin

16.01.2022 We are now confirming that all parkrun events across the world will be suspended throughout the month of May. Read our latest weekly update http://parkrun.me/...sf574 #loveparkrun

16.01.2022 Who is missing parkrun and your parkrun mates?! Dont forget to log your times if you get out for your (not)parkrun today. https://www.parkrun.com/signin/

16.01.2022 Follow this link to sign in..its really straightforward Our wonderful run director Paul has got the ball rolling by recording his run. Lets join him!

14.01.2022 This week we feature a couple who are committed volunteers and runners. Please welcome Helen and Steve Age/s Steves 50 in September, Helens just turned 55 and for runners that means moving up an Age Category.... Always been a runner? Not really, Steve in his late 20s, Helen at 40 wed always run solo until we joined intraining about 2 years ago. Our 1st years membership was a wedding anniversary gift to each other. We really enjoy running in races and training for them. parkrun has become part of our regular training routine. It offers something for all types of runners and walkers some weeks are for a goal time, some easy, then you have the social chatty runs and of course dog walking. Favourite Volunteer Role We work pretty well as a team, mostly taking on Time Keeper and Finish Tokens, so maybe thats our favourite. Its the best position to see the entire field, the energy, exhaustion and elation. Best thing about Rocks Riverside parkrun The community spirit at Rocks is a great way to start the weekend. Everyones included, you can run hard, run easy, walk, skip, bring your kids, walk your dog, chat, catch-up with friends, help out, cheer on and support. Plus, the location is the best, it helps that the course has a bit of everything, flats, little hills, the river on your left, shady in the summer months. Whats not to love. Saturday morning instead of parkrun Always a run, maybe down to the river with our two dogs, Genie and Alice. Dogs or cats Dogs, always, with two Kerry Blue Terriers who might read this, we have to say dogs for sure, but lately Helens been dropping hints about a cat joining the family. Fun Fact We worked and lived remotely in NT, WA and QLD for our first ten years together, dragging 3 kids and cramming ourselves into makeshift homes, from 12m x 3m dongas (mobile huts) in construction camps, to cattle stations and caravan parks in small towns before settling into a Qldr in Brisbane. Its 10 years later now, and finally, weve shaken the feeling of being the nomads we were.

13.01.2022 The Rocks Riverside parkrun family grew again this past week with a new arrival to one of our regular parkrun families. Congratulations to Simon, Suzie & Charlotte who welcomed Hannah Grace Gick on Wednesday 17th June at 9.29am weighing 3.1kg. Hannah is adorable and we cant wait to meet here when we can return to parkrun again. ... Congratulations from the event team

13.01.2022 Sadly, this coming Saturday, for the first time in 15 years, there will be no parkrun anywhere in the world. We will share more from parkrun Founder Paul Sinton...-Hewitt later tomorrow. We will get through this, together #loveparkrun

12.01.2022 Meet Paul. Runner, netballer, lawyer, cat lover and all round great guy. Pauls the one we turn to when we need a voice of reason. Hes just not allowed on escalators. AGE: I have turned 40 during isolation... JOB: I work as a lawyer at Legal Aid Queensland helping people in trouble with banks, lenders and insurers. I have previously studied Outer Space Law but no I dont know where the aliens are. WHERE WERE YOU BORN AND WHAT WERE YOU LIKE AS A KID? I was born in Brisbane and have lived in the Western suburbs all my life. Kenmore, Mount Crosby and Darra. I was very accident prone as a kid, highlighted by me getting my head stuck in a verandah railing and my foot stuck in an escalator. TOP 3 PARKRUNS...NOT INCLUDING RR? Bellerive in Tasmania beautiful spot next to the water. Sirromet Who cannot love running at a winery. Kirra a nice spot on the beach at the Coast. FAVOURITE VOLUNTEER POSITION? Run Director or Pacer Both involve talking to lots of people and encouraging people to enjoy their exercise. GREATEST DISTANCE TRAVELLED TO A PARKRUN? Burswood Peninsula in WA. It starts right next to the new stadium in Perth. ONE THING YOU WILL NEVER EAT? As long as it has enough sauce or mustard on it, I am likely to give it a try. SATURDAY MORNING INSTEAD OF PARKRUN? My other 2nd home apart from parkrun is playing Indoor Netball at the Brisbane West Indoor Sports Centre in Darra. Hopefully both it and parkrun are back open soon! CATS OR DOGS? Cats I currently have 2 RSPCA rescue cats. There is a child lock on my fridge to stop one of them breaking into the fridge. SONG GUARANTEED TO GET YOU ON THE DANCEFLOOR? I have 3 left feet. No dancing from me.

10.01.2022 We know you miss seeing Danny...so here he is! Today he celebrates 100 days of 5k "It just sort of happened. I was already doing 6 runs a week due to no tennis etc. So I thought I would just see how long I could go for. Still dont have a goal" Yep...thats our Danny

10.01.2022 Did you celebrate a milestone this morning? As you are all aware a few things are different due to Covid but we still want to share your special moments each week. Shout out loud and proud in the comments below and let us celebrate with you in the virtual world.

10.01.2022 This week we feature Jahnee, Tim and their five kids! Youll often see all seven of them wearing the volunteer vests Thanks team...we you! Ages: Tim 40, Jahnee 39, too many kids = Eddie 9, Ada 7, Isla 7, Vinnie 7, Leo 4. Always been a runner: Tim yes, since 1997. Tims first marathon was London in 98 at 18 years old. Jahnee no, only since 2017. I ran my first marathon within 12 months and then 4 within the next 12 months... Addicted much? I then found triathlons... Ki...ds have had no say since we discovered parkrun at Sandgate a few years ago. Ada is a natural runner and comes in faster than most adults... The other kids are just pro complainers! (Aka Cheer squad!). They like the swings and ice cream at the end of parkrun best. Favourite volunteer role: Eddie and the girls loves sorting the tags but want to scan! Give it time and well trust Eddie enough to step up. Tim and Jahnee will cover whatever the team needs pacing is lots of fun and photographer is fun too to say hi to everyone! Kids just want to wear the vest! Best thing about Rocks: The locals! Weve made so many friends on the back of coming to our first run 2 years ago. Its also a beautiful spot on the river in a great part of Brissy. Saturday mornings without parkrun: Bush walk, art/craft, sport (kids), on a non-kid weekend we either go for a longer run or a ride. Dogs or cats: Cats even though Tim is allergic. The kids count dogs at park run - its a great distraction from "my legs hurt". Fun fact: With an average of 326 finishers at Rocks, we represent 2.15% of the attendees

10.01.2022 Meet Adrian! Adrian was nominated by another Rocks regular to be in the spotlight this week. Grab a cuppa and enjoy Age: 61 Work: Royal Australian Air Force. Engineer. One job interview in 1976!...Continue reading

Eliza, Victoria and moved to Brisbane in 2009 when my daughter was offered a swimming scholarship at St. Peters Lutheran College. What was I like as a kid? An underachiever. Loved sport but never tried hard enough to go to the next level, which has pretty much been my life story. TOP 3 PARKRUNS...NOT INCLUDING RRp? For sheer numbers, South Bank; for PBs, Sandgate, for lack of directions, Mudgeeraba FAVOURITE VOLUNTEER POSITION? Run Director. Used to ( and still do) love watching people cross the finish line with a smile on their face. GREATEST DISTANCE TRAVELLED TO A PARKRUN? West Coast, closely followed by East Coast ONE THING YOU WILL NEVER EAT? Shellfish. Im allergic to shellfish. SATURDAY MORNING INSTEAD OF PARKRUN? #notparkrun CATS OR DOGS? Dogs. Not a big fan of cats. We have 2 at home and Im always plotting ways to lose them. SONG GUARANTEED TO GET YOU ON THE DANCEFLOOR? Im the worlds worst dancer, but if a Sunnyboys song came on I might be persuaded. I would just like to say a big thanks to Danny, Kristen and Brad, the original event team. Rocks Riverside parkrun started as a small base of approx 170 runners to becoming consistently in the top 5 attendances in Australia largely due to their work. It was a pleasure to be part of the original group, and to get to know so many people in the RRp community.

04.01.2022 Always late to the party but shes here now. Robin is one of the newbies to Rocks Riverside. If you have a dog youve probably met her...shes a little crazy for them AGE: 50! Happy to be here and stoked to be the oldest member of the team...means I can boss them around but theyre too scared to say anything. Year 7 cross country may have included a shortcut through the bush FAVOURITE VOLUNTEER POSITION? Run Director and photograher Im interested in people and their stories. I have a knack for missing parkrun due to travel plans going awry. ONE THING YOU WILL NEVER EAT? Rare steak. Actually any steak really. Yuk. SATURDAY MORNING INSTEAD OF PARKRUN? It will involve walking and coffee...either my school buddies or hubby and dogs CATS OR DOGS? Dogs. I adore them. All of them. Ive never met a dog I didnt love. As a kid our home was like a refuge for any stray animal that needed a home. At one stage we had four cats, a dog and an aviary full of budgies. They just turned up and never left. I have two beautiful Australian Terriers now..Digby is 10 and our new baby Daphne is 6 months. SONG GUARANTEED TO GET YOU ON THE DANCEFLOOR? Look, Im 50 now and worried Ill injure myself if I start acting like its 1987 again but Jessies Girl by Rick Springfield is my #1.

Wowzers, I think Im into the 40s now. Theyve all been great in different ways. Albert Melbourne was special as Im a big F1 fan. Its quite beautiful and a very challenging course. GREATEST DISTANCE TRAVELLED TO A PARKRUN? Drive wise, probably 90 minutes max. But if youre taking in flying it would be one of the four Ive done in England some 16,000km away! ONE THING YOU WILL NEVER EAT? There isnt anything I wouldnt try.
