17.01.2022 Now is the time to lift the mower blades. A longer lawn will help to shade the roots, cool the earth and retain water. This will also encourage a deep root system for longer lasting green lawn. #RockyPointAU #BetterEarth #SummerGardenPrep #SummerIsComing #SummerEntertaining

Remember to remove spent flower heads to keep your annuals flowering and extending their life.... #RockyPointAU #BetterEarth #SummerGardenPrep #SummerIsComing #SummerEntertaining

14.01.2022 Pretty up your patio ready for summer entertaining with the addition of statement hanging pots. There are so many options for beautiful hanging pots and what to plant in them! Our picks include; Fucshia - with exotic looking flower that drip down through the summer. Varieties such as Fuchsia 'Purple Rain' or Fuchsia 'White King' that will fill a basket easily and be smothered in fantastic blooms!... Petunia - available in simple, single colours that impress when planted in a single basket and hang down in huge drifts of colour, and also in fantastic new varieties to add a huge 'wow' factor to summer displays. Petunia 'Night Sky' has become a firm favourite, a variety that sports random white 'stars' set against a deep purple background, when planted en masse they create their own galaxy! Geraniums - a traditional summer bedding plant that is known by all gardeners, old and new, geraniums are drought tolerant, tough plants that grow well in hanging baskets where sometimes watering is 'overlooked'. Nasturtiums - a plant that is incredibly easy to grow from seed and can grow up to 100cm long with phenomenal colour variety from creamy white to deep maroon and loads in between, including some that actually change colour! Whilst some Nasturtiums, such as 'Dwarf Compact Mixed' will stay relatively small (although still enough to fill a basket!), others, such as Nasturtium 'Troika Spotty Dotty' will hang down over a metre and constantly produce golden yellow blooms with striking red flashes inside. What will you be planting in your hanging baskets for the Summer season? #RockyPointAU #BetterEarth #SummerGardenPrep #SummerIsComing #SummerEntertaining

11.01.2022 Harvest broccoli in the morning, when the buds of the head are firm and tight, just before the heads flower.

11.01.2022 Watering your lawn is one of the most important parts of caring for your lawn. Here are our quick tips! Use sprinklers or soaker hoses to keep the spread of watering consistent Water more, less - longer waterings, less often encourages deeper root growth and helps making your lawn more drought tolerant... Water in the morning or the evening - avoid the heat of the day and risk of fungal issues watering at night Know your lawn type - different varieties have different thirsts Keep an eye on the weather, if you normally water 2-3 times a week but there is a heat wave, you may need to increase your watering #RockyPointAU #BetterEarth #SummerGardenPrep #SummerIsComing #SummerEntertaining

07.01.2022 Watch out for fungal diseases in your garden! Rust, mildew, black spot and other fungal diseases of foliage and flowers occur on roses, fuchsias and other ornamentals and on some vegies over summer. Fungal problems can be controlled with a registered fungicide. When applying fungicides to edibles, it is important to check the withholding period before harvesting from a treated plant. The withholding period is the length of time that must elapse between applying spray and ha...rvest. Have a chat with the crew at your local garden centre to find the right treatment option for your garden. #RockyPointAU #BetterEarth #SummerGardenPrep #SummerEntertaining

07.01.2022 If you're planning on putting a fresh layer of mulch around the gardens to get everything looking smart for the holidays, now is a great time to do some of the preparation for mulching. Take a trip around the garden and pull out any weeds you come across and give plants a light prune to tidy them up. Consider sprinkling some fertiliser pellets (ActivGrow Fertiliser Pellets are our pick) and watering them in so the garden is ready to go before you lay down your new mulch! #RockyPointAU #BetterEarth #SummerGardenPrep #SummerIsComing #SummerEntertaining

06.01.2022 Some plants require more frequent feeding as they continuously use energy for growth, flowering or fruit production. Productive plants, including citrus and fruit trees, vegetables and many flowering annuals, need regular fertiliser top-ups. To keep your garden flowering and producing through summer, now is a great time to apply some fertiliser to your garden beds, veggie patches and potted plants! #RockyPointAU #BetterEarth #SummerGardenPrep #SummerIsComing #SummerEntertaining

05.01.2022 There are so many tiny critters and plant diseases that want to feed on your plants over summer. Keep an eye out for pests on your new summer plants or plant growth. Pests that are active in summer include; + Caterpillars + Fruit Fly... + Snails & Slugs + Whitefly + Aphids The quickest way to deal with many pests and diseases is to remove the pest or damaged plant part by hand when it's first seen. This may mean squashing a pest or removing an infected leaf or flower. You can also find plenty of eco-friendly options for pest control at your local garden centre. #RockyPointAU #BetterEarth #SummerGardenPrep #SummerIsComing #SummerEntertaining
