16.01.2022 "Two short days ago, on the 1st of September, we lost our 5 month old Rotty, Milo, to 1080 poison in his own backyard. What our poor boy... went through was absolutely horrific and heartbreaking. Our 3 year old daughter witnessed the whole awful ordeal. We rushed Milo to the vet and he took his last breath as he looked at me pulling into the vets drive way. A police investigation is underway. I just want everyone to take the time to understand that baiting does happen and my little man is the 4th dog to be baited in my town and thats only whats been reported. Ive spoke to other dog owners that havent reported but they have lost their fur babies to suspected baiting as well. We were just super unlucky " The Coalition of Australians Against 1080 Poison is urging the police to conduct a transparent and urgent investigation into Milos death. There is a strong possibility that the bait that killed Milo was transported by a bird, as has been the case in other spates of dog deaths across the country (see link in comments below). Until 1080 poison is banned in every State, in every Territory and in every corner of the country, no one is safe. , : .../. : photo taken the day before Milo died.

12.01.2022 DOG OWNER ALERT - ANOTHER LEPTOSPIROSIS CASE Another dog has been diagnosed with the bacterial infection leptospirosis - this time on the lower North Shore. Unfortunately the dog developed severe kidney failure and had to be euthanased. Dogs become infected by directly coming into contact with urine from infected rats or contaminated water sources. Early signs of infection in dogs are generally non-specific and include vomiting, diarrhoea, lethargy, and fever, before prog...ressing to fatal liver and kidney failure. All dogs around this newly affected area need to be vaccinated against leptospirosis. Please contact us for more information or book your appointment online: http://vet.lc/s0alvg

10.01.2022 If you need a reminder about why parliamentary representation for animals is so important read on... Last night our MP Emma Hurst passed an amendment so NSW law now recognises the link between animal abuse and domestic violence. What does this mean? Animal abuse will now be formally recognised as a form of domestic violence, and animals will be included on Apprehended Domestic Violence Orders. ... This is a huge win, but there is still more to be done. We will keep fighting for more changes to the law that both protect the rights of animals and recognise their sentience. Our MP Emma Hurst, 'We need laws which recognise animals as living, sentient beings instead of mere ‘property’. I support the recommendation by Domestic Violence NSW that the definition of ‘persons’ in domestic violence legislation should include animals. The fact that animals are considered property under the law is an anomaly. Nobody considers their cat or dog as a piece of property- as nothing more than a table or chair, they are members of the family, and our legislation should reflect that. The Animal Justice Party is committed to working toward long term domestic violence reform. With my tougher penalties legislation now being debated in Parliament, I’m certain we’ll have even more success in this space to share with you soon!

08.01.2022 VALE CHUBBA Good bye my boy, good bye my world. Chubba has left the world today age 15. Chubba rescued and rehabilitated thousands of dogs that came through Rockys K9 Rescue since 2008.... Never another dog like you Chubba. Thankyou for being the best dog anyone could ever ask for. You always had a smile on your face. You were so special, you had a mind of your own, and you loved to do your own thing always. Not one day did you ever give me a hard time, or another dog a hard time, or even a cat a hard time. You loved life, you loved everything in life, and you were always such a happy boy. So many people will remember Chubba at the shelter, when they would come and adopt dogs, or when I would go to the pounds to save dogs, all the staff know Chub, he would go with me to help save the dogs off death row. Chub went with me everywhere. Chubba was not only my dog, he was my best mate. You have broken my heart in pieces and I will never ever forget you my boy. My world is black now and I dont know how I will walk into my home without you. You will not be at the gate talking to me, I will never hear your voice again, or see your smile. Run free Chubba at the rainbow bridge. Say hello to Rocky and all the other gang! See more

07.01.2022 REMEMBERING RED DOG On November 21, 1979 exactly 41 years ago now Pilbara legend Red Dog was put to rest.... Red Dog was a friendly kelpie-cross who lived his life hitching rides and travelling throughout WA's Pilbara region, and even as far south as Perth. He is believed to have been born in Paraburdoo in 1971 and has touched the lives of people in Australia and around the globe after his story was made into a feature film in 2011. Red Dog is buried in an unmarked grave somewhere between Roebourne and Cossack and a memorial statue is located on the outskirts of Dampier. R.I.P. mate

04.01.2022 ***VERY IMPORTANT ANOTHER CASE IN PADDINGTON SYDNEY RIP POOR DOG BUT HE WAS VACCINATED JUST DEVASTATING!! SO PLS READ AND SHARE THIS POST *** Leptospirosis update 28/08/2020... Attention dog owners! There has been another confirmed case of Leptospirosis this week in a dog that lived in Paddington. According to medical records this dog was fully vaccinated against Leptospirosis and sadly had to be euthanised due to kidney failure. The vaccine currently used in the Sydney area provides protection against the strain (serovar) known as Copenhageni which has been identified as the causative serovar in dogs infected last and this year in the Sydney area. In other countries other serovars are involved in clinical Leptospirosis hence different vaccines are used. We are still investigating which serovar has been involved in this most recent case as it may be different from those in previous cases. This is the first case of Leptospirosis seen in Paddington. Earlier this month cases in Crows Nest, Balmain and Newtown were reported. Last year we saw 8 cases between May and November and these dogs lived in Surry Hills, Darlinghurst, Glebe and Redfern. We understand how concerning it is that a vaccinated dog has been infected and died of leptospirosis. Despite this, we are strongly recommending vaccination in dogs living within a 5km radius of Surry Hills, in Balmain, Crows Nest or its immediately surrounding suburbs or if your dog is in contact with rats. Please avoid any rat contact and dont let your dog drink out of puddles. The vaccine has to be given twice 2-4 weeks apart and yearly thereafter. What is Leptospirosis? Leptospirosis is a potentially fatal bacterial infection that can cause acute kidney failure and liver disease in dogs. Dogs become infected by contact with urine from rats or indirectly via contaminated water or soil. They can also become infected by hunting and eating rats. Prevention of leptospirosis is achieved by limiting contact to sources of infection and vaccination. Until recently clinical leptospirosis has only rarely been reported in Sydney. Therefore, historically, dogs have not been routinely vaccinated against this disease. Clinical signs can initially be very vague such as lethargy, vomiting and diarrhea. Importantly, leptospirosis is a zoonotic disease which means that humans can become infected as well, for example through contact with rat urine or urine of infected dogs, through skin wounds or through the mucus membranes (eg in the mouth).

03.01.2022 Deadly disease outbreak in Sydney - Leptospirosis The University of Sydney Teaching Hospital has informed us that there has been yet another confirmed Leptospirosis case from Crows Nest early this month. In Sydney, there were 8 cases diagnosed last year and 2 more this month. Leptospirosis is a potentially deadly infection that is spread through rats and mice. Vaccination is not yet mandatory, however if your dog lives on acreage or you are travelling near areas with rats or... mice, vaccination against the infection could be recommended. Please call or message us if you want further information and to see if our vet recommends vaccination for your pet.

03.01.2022 SPECIAL POST FOR BELLA PLEASE SHARE SHARE SHARE It seems If Rockys save a Rottweiler, no matter how old, or what ever the dog might have as a negative, we rehome them to the best of the best. We have a waiting list of people who apply to adopt the dog. This is fantastic, we re home Rottweilers because it’s our specialty, and has been since day one Rockys was opened in 2008.... But an American Staffy like Bella no one contacts to help her Please share this post to help Bella find a place of her own as an only dog with someone who is experienced with this breed. She is a good girl and deserve a chance. She doesn’t care about the outside world, just a home to live in where she will not get abused and be loved. She needs to be an only dog, with good fences and adults. Location Canley Vale in Sydney.

02.01.2022 ** UPDATE ** Dogs are sorted and safe, cannot disclose any more information at this point. Dogs are safe and Monday will be organising next steps. Thankyou everyone for support especially anonymous person who helped me and George xx... I cannot for legal reasons say location, and I won’t. Rockys with the help of a dear animal lover will be attending a property tonight that has 2 large dogs abandoned for 3 weeks who are skin and bones. It’s not Rockys job to do this, it’s the authorities and I am sick to death of people dumping their poor dogs, people mistreating dogs and cats, the neglect in yards, the fleas, the chains, fly blown ears, and starvation. This is second time this month I took matters into my own hands and took dogs away from their homes! A Month ago I had 7 dogs in the van from Sydney from one home, people had called authorities and no one attended. You all remember my post. The police have been made aware of this tonight and can’t do anything, rspca and awl did nothing. People vacated property in Sydney 3 week ago and never came back. Well as usual after getting zero help from authorities Rockys will take the matter into our own hands tonight and tonight I was meant to be with my family at dinner. Shame shame shame on the human race. So many people don’t deserve to have animals. My rescue have done the hard yards for years, last 12 months I slowed down due to personal things that happened in my life, and since coming back from overseas I have started saving dogs again and haven’t had a week go by without a large dog at the shelter. But it’s not fair how the authorities do bugger all. I don’t know what I am expected to witness tonight, but if any of you know the people who have done this, let them know shame shame shame on them.

Mara the Magnificent Lovely miss Mara turned up as a stray kitten and was fed and cared for but had never been inside before coming into care. Fortunately shes a very resilient young lady and has adjusted beautifully, although potential adopters need to be aware shes still on street cat time meaning 1am is time for food and play. With a good routine she will adjust to eating and playing at normal hours, and sleeping through the night. She is very affectionate and does a cuddle dance where she dances around while waiting for attention from whoever is available. Shes also great with most other cats so ideally a home with one or two friendly cats would suit her. She will also suit someone older or a family with kids over age 8. Let those dreamy golden eyes suck you in! Name: Mara Age: 1yr Gender: Female FIV status: Negative Desexed Vaccinated Microchipped Flea and worm treated Kids Other pets Maras adoption fee is $200 and she is located near Gosford NSW. She is ready to go from Monday 17 August 2020. Call Sarah on 0416747560
