27.02.2022 Cruising South - Two Years Ago. This was amazing - aboard the Ocean Diamond with Quark Expeditions, heading into the Lemaire Channel, on the way south to the Antarctic Circle. The channel is stunningly scenic with high slopes and cliffs along its 11km length. The narrowest part is just 1.6 km across. ... Quark is great: they permit people to visit the bridge (but remaining quiet and out of the way is important) so I was able to watch this very critical navigation. One of the biggest hazards is unexpected icebergs, and we did encounter one such around a bend. Skipper didn’t bat an eyelid. I shot it in 2007 during a long layover in London, during which I zipped down to Turkey.
