11.01.2022 Missing our lovely daughters! This border closure strategy is cruel to families who have loved ones interstate. It’s coming up to 7 months since we have seen Tahlea & Mikaela. For a very close family it is particularly tough. What we have learnt in Covid times is that the Prime Minister doesn’t run the country it is the all-powerful Premiers of each state! In many cases border closures are entirely politically motivated! Looking forward to the time when the S.A border re-opens. I wouldn’t hold my breath though! Christmas is not looking good!

04.01.2022 A major drought in Victoria from 1877 to 1884 prompted Alfred Deakin a minister in the State Government and chairman of a Royal Commission on water supply, to visit the irrigation areas of California. There he met Canadian brothers George and William (WB) Chaffey. In 1886, George Chaffey came to Australia and selected a derelict sheep station at Mildura as the site of an irrigation site. After much political wrangling the settlement of Mildura was established in 1887. Initial... bumper harvests were followed by hard times as the 1890’s depression hit, but the region known as Sunraysia recovered to become the fruit bowl of Australia. The magnificent Rio Vista was occupied by WB Chaffey and his family in 1892. The spanish name Rio Vista, which means ‘River View’, reflects the Californian experiences of the Chaffey brothers.
