22.01.2022 Had a quick and easy job today where one of my clients called in with a small keypad. Apparently comes out of a commercial dishwasher in a cheese factory and a couple switches were faulty but all of them were a little rusty from the damp environment so he asked if I would replace all 10. As I have them in stock, I volunteered to complete it while he was still in town and so he came back a couple hours later to pick it up. I told him it would be $67.60 plus gst and... he asked if that included the labour. When I confirmed that it did he said to make out the bill for $100 and that was still cheap. Turns out that a new board is $1,500 and when they’d asked the manufacturer to buy new switches to fit themselves they were quoted $95 each !!! for 10 tiny little tact switches $950 total. and I was feeling a bit guilty for charging 76 CENTS each $7.60 total. Some people live in a different universe.

12.01.2022 Lots of plugs and sockets ... and quite a wait, to go through a complete cleaning cycle ... but at least we know it's going to work when it gets back on farm. Boumatic Guardian II Pipeline Wash Controller.

11.01.2022 Got an email a couple weeks ago about whether we fix Westfalia/GEA Dematron boards ... should have shown them this photo. :) Some nasty issues with a lot of them too ... but all fixable.

08.01.2022 This set of boards is from a Boumatic ‘Guardian II’ automatic milk-line cleaning system. It failed during a thunderstorm and a near hit by lightning. It’s rare to see so many parts fail at one time (see the small collection on bottom right) and normally you couldn’t justify going to this extreme except that a new system is around $3,300 so it allowed plenty of time to fix and still be worthwhile for all concerned.... For anyone who understands the bits that’s the main microcontroller IC, a couple of relay driving chips, several op-amps, 3 x smd chips, a 3 terminal regulator for 12V and a couple of leds. I probably should create a printed label for the test jig but pencil works fine I can read it. ... and hopefully the next one will be a little easier.

03.01.2022 This little heap of bits has kept me out of trouble for a week ... and over $15,000 worth of Westfalia boards out of land fill.
