24.01.2022 Over the Christmas holidays, when spending time with family and friends, be an encourager. As stories of the past year are shared around, listen for the positives... struggles overcome... successes in spite of setbacks. Speak words of encouragement. Strengthen the emotional resilience of others by reminding them of what they have achieved. Here's a few ideas...

23.01.2022 Everyone has their dark moments, but with the right mindset and attitude its easier to get that break-through and bounce back stronger.

22.01.2022 Have you ever felt like your life is in a rut? Almost every day I hear stories of people who tell me they feel stuck. Most often, we feel that way because of the strongholds of old habits and old patterns of thinking. We want to get out of the rut, but are too afraid to take that step. Most often, because of a fear of failure, so we simply shrink back and wallow where we are, discontented and dispirited. At some point, we have to choose to be courageous and confront a...nd overcome our fears if we want our circumstances to change. Consider the example of Christopher Columbus. He was the forerunner of the Age of Exploration. In recent centuries, a myth was perpetuated that he thought that the world was flat and would prove otherwise. But he knew the Earth was a sphere, and as a person of strong faith and great courage, ventured upon the seas and chose to go in a new direction. His reward was the discovery of a continent previously unknown to Europeans. In a small pocket book called Wisdom by Andrew Zuckerman, the late Australian author Bryce Courtney says, Failure is an absolute essential in life. If we never fail, how could we possibly succeed? We can only extend ourselves to the limit of what we know. Failure teaches us what we dont know. It is essential to fail. You dare your genius to walk the wildest, unknown way. Sometimes change is forced upon us. Covid-19 has taught many business owners that courage and willingness to change how things are done, say in manufacturing or hospitality, leads to innovation and the seizing of new opportunities. So why settle for floundering when you can be flourishing? Be bold. Be courageous. Leave the "OLD WORLD" behind, so to speak. That is, let go of old thoughts and habits and break out of the rut by challenging and conquering fear. Make life an adventure and discover that you are a person packed-full of possibilities with capacity to learn, grow and thrive. #courage #endurance #grit #life #inspiration #overcomingfear #positivelife #healthylifestyle #mentalhealth #wellbeing

22.01.2022 Why is the holiday season so stressful? Mind and body craves wanting to "switch-off and slow-down". But pulling back on the reins and slowing up isn't always that easy, right? Especially when you're still trying to juggle a million end-of-year things! But for the sake of good health and wellbeing, learning to relax and de-stressing is not an option, it's a "must-do". So you owe it to yourself... take the foot of the pedal, let go of pent-up pressures of the past year, and make time for yourself to rest and rejuvenate. You've got to take care of yourself before you can take care of the business of life.

21.01.2022 Have you noticed how disappointments, setbacks, let-downs and mistakes of the past fasten on to our lives like velcro? It can be a big struggle to free ourselves of negative baggage from our past . But the fight is worth it! We may not easily forget the bad stuff weve experienced , but we can choose not to focus on it.... Set your sights on the good treasure that is within. Life is all the more worthwhile when we are invested in passionately discovering and developing our natural talents, gifts and strengths and generously sharing them with others to make the world a happier place. #selfworth #selfcare #selfesteem #goals #goalsetting #perserverance #life #generosity #gifted #talent #makeadifference #happiness

20.01.2022 We're all battlers. We battled to be conceived. We battled to be born. Right throughout life, we tend to find ourselves in one of three places. In a battle, just come out of a battle, or about to go into a battle. At times our struggles may look overwhelming. Then days, months or even years may pass, and one day out of the blue a memory is triggered, and we remember the obstacles we've overcome. They are times to celebrate and to be grateful that we're still standing.

19.01.2022 Today is "RUOK" Day. The founders legacy lives on changing attitudes towards mental health and helping people find support at times when they are most vulnerable and struggling with their wellbeing. Every day provides opportunities to be observant and sensitive to the wellbeing of family members, friends and work colleagues. If your gut instinct suggests something might not be well with someone you come into contact with, then be brave and enquire if they are OK. ... More importantly, allow time and space to really listen. If you pick up they are having a tough time, invite them to tell you more. And, through conversation, discover how long they have been feeling a certain way. Encourage the person to share how they are really feeling with someone else that they trust. Offer to go along with them if they would like the support. Be sure to touch base again at earliest opportunity to see how they are tracking and to learn what progress has been made. We may never know how such simple caring acts can be a positive turning point in another persons life. If we live our lives looking out for others in this way, we will certainly be helping to do a lot of good as well as laying foundations for building great relationships. 17.01.2022 We often hear of life experiences described as mountains. Our mindset matters more than the mountains that stand before us. We can focus all we want on the mountain, but what we can shift, is our mindset. ... Take that approach when facing challenges. Only then are you on your way to successfully dealing with the issues of life. #overcomeobstacles #overcome #Mindset #positivevibes #positivemindset #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #grit #resilience #mentalhealthsupport #rohanwatsoncounselling

17.01.2022 When we put up emotional walls, we generally find ourselves soon suffocating in our sadness and hurts. These walls intended for self-preservation also become a fortress that shuts-out freedom and joy. We build the walls. So, only we can take them down. But what if we put more energy into building bridges instead of walls in the first place? Thered be a good likelihood that we would feel better and enjoy healthier relationships.

17.01.2022 Am I ok? That might be the most important question you ask yourself all year. Sometimes we may struggle in our inner world or feel swamped by people-pressures, time-pressures, study-pressures etc.. All too often most of us fall into the easy trap of just pushing on with life without ever stopping to really question our thoughts and feelings. Sometimes it takes an outsider to ask the question, "are you okay?", before we realize that others are noticing that we may need a ...little support. But self-care and self-awareness are really important for our wellbeing. And that's why it is perfectly okay to ask ourselves, "am I ok?". If you are weighed down with worries and too much stress, then you don't have to journey alone. Help is available. Reaching out to a counsellor is often a turning point, and a pathway to a healthier, more positive outlook. The opportunity to confidentially download and talk about your thoughts and feelings is usually amazingly helpful in lightening the load. Professional counsellors can help you navigate life's problems (and opportunities). They offer skills, insights and new perspectives that can really be that turning point for enhancing your wellbeing. So ask yourself today, "am I ok?". And, if you aren't doing so well, then consider reaching out to a caring, non-judgemental professional counsellor.

17.01.2022 Why keep a journal?... You know something... it is actually good for your wellbeing! Science backs that up. If you have never kept a journal about your life, i.e. what youre thinking, feeling and doing, then starting now would be as good a time as ever. We are in a "GLOBAL MOMENT". All over the world, the pandemic has turned lives upside down.... Most of us have had our normal way of life disrupted, perhaps only in a smallish way, but the effect on many people has been dramatic, even disastrous. But... something we can all do is get our thoughts and experiences down in writing. It is therapeutic. And, more than that, you are creating a record of how you are handling a huge life challenge during an epic time. Your journal is your story. It is a diary of how you are riding out lifes ups and downs right now. When you come out the other side of this pandemic, youll be able to look back at your journal and draw encouragement from the way you drew strength during the struggles. As much as we all would love the pandemic to be over today, no one really knows how long it will take. Even the hope of a vaccine still looks like being many months away. It is a common thing to reflect on past major events as "a moment in time". Right now, we are witnessing and experiencing a "GLOBAL MOMENT". Wouldnt this therefore be the perfect time to start journaling? Click the link for the article below. When youre done having a read, you might just feel even more encouraged to keep a journal and enjoy the positive wellbeing benefits it offers... https://greatergood.berkeley.edu//how_journaling_can_help_

16.01.2022 Thoughts are real events - electrochemical reactions in our brain. Thoughts sculpt our brain. That is, thoughts can lead to change in brain structure. So, what you're thinking, and your self-talk, mightily matters. Studies show among many benefits, that optimism and positive thinking boost the human immune system. Thinking well is therefore a wellspring for supporting better health. #life #mentalhealth #optimism #happiness #positivemindset #healthy #mentalhealthawareness

14.01.2022 Have you ever hopped into your car, turned on the key, and all youve gotten is a short werrrrrrrr sound, and then nothing? You turn the key a few more times. Still nothing. Yourre now thinking flat battery! Yep, a battery as dead as a doornail. So, probably with clenched teeth and a growl, you conclude that all effort to get to work on time is derailed. You therefore organize another car to come alongside. Jumper-leads between the two vehicles are clamped on to... charge up the flat battery. After transference of energy that recharges the battery, the key is turned on again and your car engine roars back to life. When we feel empty and spent, we too need to know how to get a jump-start that will re-boot and boost our motivation and drive. It takes input to get output. So, here are some daily jump-starting ideas for energisation and rejuvenation. Listen to podcasts with positive messages, read inspirational books, do mindful movement as exercise improves your metabolism and increases a sense of wellbeing, eat healthy meals that are nutrient-rich and mood-lifting, encourage yourself with a life-affirming mindset using self-talk can do declarations reflecting your strengths and abilities, create a plan for accomplishment of your life goals, ensure any big life decisions are aligning with your values, keep adding to a journal everything that you are grateful for, and be kind and generous because what goes around, comes around.

13.01.2022 Just as a side note. This quote is attributed to George Washington Carver a prominent African-American scientist of the early 20th Century. His contribution to agriculture and environmentalism was massive and the world has benefited immensely to this day from his discoveries and inventions. Yet, at just one week old he was kidnapped and later rescued alone and barely alive, but how he was afterwards cared for, was the grounding for his extraordinary achievements which followed. His life story is phenomenal and inspirational. Check out wikipedia for background or better still, get a copy of author Andy Andrews amazing little book "The Butterfly Effect" for more incredible insights.

12.01.2022 Having goals gives us purpose and ultimately the reward that comes from a sense of accomplishment. It takes motivation to move us to act on our goals. Sometimes when we set a big goal, it may soon seem overwhelming. That can cause our motivational drive to quickly dry up. By breaking down bigger goals into a subset of smaller goals, we more easily make progress, much like moving from one rung to another up a ladder. Attaining a series of successes, step by step, strengthens motivation and perseverance to realise the bigger goals we set for ourselves. #goals #goalsetting #motivation #purpose #life #mindset #grit

06.01.2022 2020 is a year destined to leave many scars. Those scars will be physical and mental. Theyll be seared across our landscapes. And stamped upon communities all over the globe. How we perceive scars is important. We can choose to look at our scars as signs of past trauma or wounding. Or instead, we can turn our thoughts to a healthier and more positive perspective. For example, accepting scars as a mark of lifes natural processes of healing, showing us that endurance l...eads to recovery, regeneration and renewal. And therefore hope. When we choose to think in this life-affirming way, our brains neural pathways rewire healthily and were likely to become more optimistic and begin feeling our world is once again manageable and meaningful. When we are in control of our lives and looking ahead to a brighter day, we enjoy greater contentedness and confidence. Weve all witnessed bushfires ravaging Australias landscape, but therell be regrowth and our darkened land will bloom again. Businesses decimated by Covid-19 will rebuild or be replaced by new ones. The wild social unrest currently rife on the streets of some the worlds largest cities, will also return to peaceful times once more. So no matter what type of scar 2020 leaves on us, each scar is symbolically an image of strength and survival in which is carried a seed of hope, and a reminder that lifes stressors and setbacks are surmountable. #life #nature #scars #trauma #healing #hope #endurance #mentalhealth #wellbeing #inspiration #positivity

04.01.2022 Emotions! We all wrestle with them, right? They are our feelings which make us prone to behave in a particular way. Sometimes how we act in relation to our emotions may carry over and leave us with other feelings, like a sense of letting down ourselves or others. Before we barely know it, we can quickly find ourselves getting strapped into the seat of an emotional rollercoaster. We encounter many types of emotions, but the six basic biggies are happiness, sadness, fear, d...isgust, anger and surprise, each of which can elicit a recognisable facial expression. Believe it or not, emotions are more within our control than we tend to think. They are not in-built. They werent hardwired in at birth. It is a misconception that we are slaves to our emotions. Rather than fighting against our emotions, we can learn to harness and embrace them, and by reframing our mindset or switching perceptions of situations, we can change future emotional outcomes. By putting that into practice we are equipped to more positively influence our relationships with others. More than that, by taking responsibility for our emotions we increase the likelihood of better mastering our mood, keeping our behaviour in-check, and improving opportunities for success in our work and personal lives. Learn more about emotions by watching this Ted Talk by Professor Lisa Feldman Barrett. She has a simple and down-to-earth style in sharing scientific truths about how our emotions work. https://youtu.be/0gks6ceq4eQ #happiness #healthylifestyle #mindset #anxiety #depression #stress #wellbeing #mentalheath #mentalhealthsupport #happylife #gotocounsellortoowoomba #workstress #relationships #workplacewellbeing
