24.01.2022 BREAKING NEWS As a result of intense community pressure, and strong advocacy by the Liberals, there has been a big win today. The Government has opened up new bookings for Learners Permits, Hazard Perception Tests and License tests from today - with appointments available from next week!

23.01.2022 There were no changes announced to restrictions for regional Victoria yesterday - a disappointment for those of us hoping our zero case numbers would allow some more flexibility for hospitality, business, dance schools, learn to swim classes, gyms and others. However Daniel Andrews did announce that face mask rules will be tightened. Face shields, scarves, gators, buffs and bandanas were deemed suitable by health experts when Victoria’s active coronavirus numbers were in the ...thousands but apparently not now. Don’t ask me why. All Victorians must now wear only a fitted face mask of two-ply+ material or a surgical mask, with no end date for mask wearing flagged. Wearing other face coverings such as a shield, scarf, gator or bandana will not be allowed after a grace period of two weeks. There remain exemptions for some people including those with breathing conditions and for mental health reasons. So: face shields (unless a mask is worn as well) scarves bandanas face masks only If you have something to say to the Premier, add your voice at www.noconfidence.com.au

20.01.2022 Today is National Police Remembrance Day - I pause to pay respect to the brave men and women who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

19.01.2022 We've got runs on the board when it comes to managing outbreaks of the Coronavirus. Outbreaks in Portland, Warrnambool and Colac were controlled quickly and kept to tight clusters thanks to the brilliant work of health services, businesses and the community. There are lesson that must be learnt from that response which can be expanded on and implemented across the state to allow for a safe re-opening, while still focusing on the health and wellbeing of the community. ... 14.01.2022 Our Rail line is in desperate need of an upgrade to the carriages & facilities! I’m interested to hear from people in our community who rely on public transport, please share your experience in the comments. *Photo taken pre-COVID. Please wear a mask & practice social distancing.

14.01.2022 Such sad news with the passing of Helen Reddy today. One of my earliest memories is "performing" I Am Woman with my sister for my parents in the lounge room as kids. Eerily, I was listening to it when the news came through of her passing today. ... It's a song that inspired me and many other women and is still one of my favorites to belt out in the car! Thank you for your music, your inspiration and the memories Helen.

13.01.2022 It seemed too good to be true this morning when Labor’s Minister for Roads Ben Carroll announced ‘the time has come’ to put the learner’s permit test online. It’s something my Liberal National team and I as well as you the community have been saying for some time! Just hours after this announcement the spin machine has started and he has declared it will take ‘a number of months’ We know the technology is there and it’s time for the Minister to get on board and get this done!

12.01.2022 If you aren't finding it easy to get outside and do some exercise, try involving an activity in your daily walk. You can set a task to capture photos of unique letterboxes, pets, or pretty landscapes and flowers on your walk so that you have more of a purpose to be out exercising.

11.01.2022 Local libraries are offering a contact-free pickup service so that you can take the library home with you! If hard copy books aren't for you, you can download ebooks, and listen to readings and podcasts to keep your mind active these school holidays.

10.01.2022 A busy week in Parliament with the State Budget handed down. Here's some of what I got up to.

09.01.2022 We often enjoy eating at restaurants and cafes that specialise in different cuisines, but we can still enjoy these cultural experiences within our own home. A great way to do this is to pick a country each weekend and dive into their culture by eating and cooking their famous dishes, watching movies or documentaries, and entertaining the family with activities that originate or were made in your selected travel destination.

09.01.2022 Now more than ever it is important that we are aware of our own mental health and endeavour to look after ourselves.

08.01.2022 Are you a CFA volunteer? If so, I want to hear from you. I have always said I would have your backs and our team has a plan to rebuild and restore the CFA as an independent, volunteer based, autonomous fire service. We want to know what YOU think is required to rebuild your CFA everything from training, resources, communications and operations.... CFA volunteers, have your say here: https://www.rebuildthecfa.com.au/volunteer/

07.01.2022 Local small cemetery trusts are being asked to jump through hundreds of bureaucratic hoops in order to bury the deceased members of their communities. I raised the issue in Parliament this week and called on the Minister for Health to step in.

06.01.2022 Our local seafood industry is under enormous pressure this year thanks to ongoing trade sanctions and the pandemic. If you're planning on putting a crayfish on your table for Christmas lunch - why not support local first and enjoy the high quality seafood our region offers.

06.01.2022 I don't normally put up videos this long - this is my full 10 minute contribution on a really important topic for our community. The State Government is attempting to change the way people who live near a wind farm can make a complaint about the noise they may be experiencing. The community have genuine concerns about this and I was pleased to speak against these changes in the chamber yesterday. ... This isn't about the value or worth of renewable energy, it's about ensuring people who are living near these energy facilities are properly consulted and have their concerns heard.

06.01.2022 Bit of a different sight off Portland this week.

05.01.2022 Licence Testing may be resuming but Labor’s plan does nothing to address the waiting list of more than 25,000 Victorians who were unable to book a test over the last few months. Those 5,000 people who had their testing post poned in March or have priority hardship applications will be tested first so it is predicted it will be the end of November before 25,000 plus other people can even TRY and make a booking. Testing capacity must be increased immediately. The Liberal Nationals have called on the government to increase the operation of testing centres from only a couple of days a week to at least 5 days a week. We are also calling for VicRoads to potentially establish pop up testing centres and contract accredited professional driving instructors to help administer the tests.

05.01.2022 September is Lymphoma Month and is the time to put Lymphoma in the Limelight - as a lymphoma survior, this is a cause that is very close to my heart. I'm happy to support Lymphoma Australia's important work.

05.01.2022 Great news - the much needed upgrade of the Warrnambool Base Hospital has finally been funded. Today's budget delivers $384 million to build a new emergency department, operating theatres and acute inpatient beds. This is a major win for our community after six solid years of campaigning.

05.01.2022 Spring weather has kicked in! The flowers are blooming and the weeds are coming through. Gardening can be therapeutic so take this time to get out in the warm sunshine.

02.01.2022 Our restaurants, pubs and cafes are finally allowed to re-open for dine in service, but with some major restrictions in place. It’s important that we all remember that while it may be frustrating to be seated outside, needing to call ahead and book and to have time limits, these aren’t rules our hospitality places have put in place - they are doing their best to work within the State Government’s restrictions. So be kind and patient with the staff, ring ahead and make a booking and if you can’t keep your booking make sure you ring and cancel to allow for someone else to take your spot.

01.01.2022 The Port of Portland is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year and to celebrate is sharing these historical videos each week. The port is an important piece of infrastructure for our region and our state and this video is a fascinating glimpse at how it came to be.
