22.01.2022 How many different bird species does The Big Tree contain at Guildford? The day I visited it I saw: Musk Lorrikeets, Crimson Rosellas, Pardalotes, Corellas, Sul...fur Crested Cockatoos and Red Rumped Parrots in there. And I can only imagine what types of possums, bats and other mammals or reptiles might also live in there (not to mention insects!). How an incredibly awesome tree it is! It really shows how important Large Old Trees are with their numerous hollows. See more

14.01.2022 Alice Springs Community Garden Live Broadcast Sunday 11am EST (NSW QLD VIC TAS) 1030 CST (SA NT) 9am WST (WA)... The Desert Smart Eco Fair has been and is a nationally significant annual event that takes place in Alice Springs every August and has been going strong for the last 12years. The event showcases the future of sustainable living and environmental education and management through an extensive range of events that involve workshops, talks and hands on interaction. Every year the event provides a platform for indigenous science, culture and caring for country to be shared and better understood. From plants and horticulture, to energy, waste, growing food, water conservation, transport and planning, the Ecofair organised by the Arid Lands Environment Centre looks at the challenges of living in remote arid Australia and how it presents a unique opportunity to work together as a community for a sustainable and regenerative future. This is my 10th year as Ambassador for the Fair and I will be a part of the Eco Schools Day with some live forum drop ins over the next 9 days as the usual two days face to face at Olive Pink Botanic Garden couldn't take place this year. And tomorrow the usual Gardening in the desert workshop that takes place at Alice Springs Community Garden has been limited to two small workshop groups but you are able to join me and be a part of the tour from 11am EST here on Facebook. The garden is one of my favourite community gardens in the country and the growing conditions and the produce provide for plenty of information for gardeners anywhere to take any plenty of ideas and techniques.Nurseryman and Horticulturist Geoff Miers is an absolute garden fixture and wealth of knowledge on all things growing out there and along with community gardener Bruce and Emily from the garden they will take us on a tour and talk all things arid growing. Ill also introduce you to the team at Food For Alice, Alec and any other locals I can drag on in. See you in the morning. I cant wait to share the garden and the community with you. 08.01.2022 What a lovely idea.

08.01.2022 A is for August. A is for Acacia. This is the month of the wattle flower across many parts of the country.I would like to share some posts about the wattle ove...r the month ahead. "The plant has been valued by Indigenous communities for generations and is recognised as a source of food, medicine and for the quality of its timber, used in the production of a range of tools and weapons." I had the chance to see some of the wonderful collection of Wattles in the Acacia Garden at the The Australian Botanic Garden, Mount Annan yesterday. The wattle pictured is the Acacia pustula and it is an absolute explosion of colour at the moment. Are there any acacias flowering in your part of the country and can you share a picture of them with us ?
