23.01.2022 This made me smile ....

20.01.2022 I've just found this great old scanned photo in our collection at the Roma History Lodge, of the Hunterton School in 1927. The names of the students are: Stella, Nev, Lindsay, Mavis, Maggie, Dave, Joe, Merv, Alma, Fred, Mary, Keith, Iris & Hazel. I wonder if anyone could add the Surnames of the children for us please? They maybe THOMAS, PERRETT or BALL children & perhaps others.

19.01.2022 This photo is titled 'Cricketers at Hunterton'. Would anyone have the same photo with names written on the back or does anyone recognise any of the men please?

19.01.2022 Another great old black & white photo, of friends Kevin BYRNE, Dulcie SCHORMANN, Hazel & Iris TELFORD & Doug McCALLUM. Anyone know what year this might have been please?

17.01.2022 1918 - Boomerangs Football Club, Premiers - Alderman Wilson MISCAMBLE was the Mayor at the time, with Mr. C.W. CONROY the president of the club. They celebrated their victory at a banquet at the Queen's Arms Hotel. The Mayor noted that 'Our boys at the front...many of the Roma boys now on active service had often played football on the recreation reserve...' Read the full report of the banquet from Trove from "The Western Star and Roma Advertiser (Toowoomba, Qld. _ 1875 - 1948), Wednesday 30 October 1918, page 3" in the comments. The article doesn't mention who any of the players were.

12.01.2022 I've just received this invitation regarding the Bymount East State School's 75th anniversary. If people would like, they could send a message to be acknowledged to the group meeting and also be contacted for the celebration next year beyond COVID19. The P&C is such a little group these days and very passionate but time is the issue as they decided to do a 75 year acknowledgement with Dingo clubs Christmas tree . The email address is on this invitation.

12.01.2022 Then and now photos of the Roma Hospital.

11.01.2022 I've just found this beautiful old wedding photograph in our KLAAS folder. No names or date on the back of the photo but it was taken by Elite Studios Bundaberg. Perhaps one of the KLAAS family may be able to identify the bride & groom please? And a date?

11.01.2022 Because it's Qantas' 100th birthday today I though I would post this old photo of the Roma Airport in 1953 with a Qantas plane featured. Not from 100 years ago, but this is the oldest Roma Airport photo we have. Who remembers the Airport like this?

10.01.2022 Wedding of Evelyn Anne PITMAN & Archibald BARBER - Married 14 October 1909, Church of Christ, Roma. The lady far right second row is my great-grandmother Frances Augustus (‘Gussie’) Pitman (née Humber), wife of Samuel Pitman. Photo would have been taken at her house in May Street, Roma. This is the Pitman side of my family, and at least two of the males in the wedding pic had businesses in Roma - namely George S. Pitman who had a photographic studio (Ideal Studio); and Roy, who had a shoe shop under the name L. R. Pitman. Unfortunately, I can’t identify which one is which from the photo. Tall guy at rear with the distinctive ears I know as Great-Uncle Guy Pitman. Any help identifying others, aside from Guy, Gussie and the wedding couple would be appreciated. Grahame Hollett

After lunch a game of rounders was played and all concerned had a great innings. At about 5 p.m. the party prepared to leave for Roma again after a very successful picnic. As this was the first social outing since the inception of the branch at Roma the local committee was very pleased with the successful outcome of the venture. See more

09.01.2022 I have had the privilege to be given the task to scan over 500 photo's from Roma's early oil and gas exploration. Most of the photo's are unique and have not be...en seen before. The original photo's and a digital copy will be returned to Roma History Lodge - Family & Local History of the Maranoa after I have finished for preservation. This is one of our EMSCO Rig (The Big Rig) over its last well (Number 4), circa 1940. If you would like to learn more check out my page Roma's Oil & Gas History. See more

08.01.2022 The things you find at a garage sale! Look at this little beauty, a Queen's Arms Hotel dish, in perfect condition, donated yesterday by Emma S. While we are not a museum, and mainly collect paper based items, we do take donations of small items as these can be a draw card to any display we put together.

08.01.2022 Can anyone from the HENRICKS family identify this young couple and their three boys please? The photograph was taken by Poulsen Studies, Brisbane.

07.01.2022 Today we were asked by family for a photo of James Davis MAIDEN, born 1852 and died and was buried in the Roma Monumental Cemetery in 1924.
