17.01.2022 Some great options if you’re visiting our region!

15.01.2022 Santos partners with Visit Roma to bring visitors back after COVID-19 COVID-19 has had a devastating and crippling effect on the Maranoa regional economy, but with Queenslanders now being able to travel anywhere within Queensland the industry is set to come alive again. Visit Roma believe that the creation of a recovery tourism campaign strategy to encourage visitors to travel to the Maranoa is of utmost importance. President of Visit Roma, Charlie Eames said ‘The research is... telling us that now restrictions are lifting Queenslanders want to travel domestically, they want to drive their own cars, they want to stay within a 600kms radius in case there is a second wave and they want to visit country and regional areas. The sponsorship commitment from Santos means Visit Roma can start immediately to develop the campaign strategy, which will form the basis of the overall tourism campaign that will attract visitors back to the region. It is going to be a long time before people want to gather in large groups and we are ideally positioned to offer big blue skies and spectacular sunsets, clean air, diverse experiences and all the room in the world to explore, and we are less than a days drive from the SE corner. The sponsorship from Santos comes at the perfect time and we are ecstatic at the quick response to our request, Mr Eames said. This brand new, targeted tourism campaign is aimed at the domestic drive market and will feature the Roma Revealed regional tourism brand. The campaign will attract and invite visitors to come and discover all the region has to reveal. Santos’ Maranoa Regional Manager, Andrew Snars congratulated Visit Roma on their proactive approach to the recovery tourism campaign and is excited about supporting their efforts to attract people to Roma to stimulate the local economy during these tough times. Santos is pleased to be able to play an active role in the economic recovery out of COVID-19. Campaigns like this are vital to drive the tourism and hospitality industries but importantly benefit all businesses and suppliers across the region, Mr Snars said. The Maranoa attracted 250,000 domestic overnight visitors in 2018, staying on average four nights and spending $117 per person per night. In 2017/18 total tourism and hospitality sales in the Maranoa Regional Council area was $44.5m. Since COVID-19 social distancing regulations and non-essential travel bans have been enforced accommodation operators have reported their occupancy rate has dropped from approximately 55% in March to 10% in May. Visit Roma is working in partnership with Commerce Roma and Maranoa Regional Council as part of the COVID-19 Taskforce, which has an extensive list of COVID-19 recovery actions, including the full tourism campaign, that are currently being implemented. Visit https://www.commerceroma.com.au/ for all the latest COVID-19 information.
