17.01.2022 Rail control cards fitted to a rail prime mover which were repaired by us, Rom-Control. We fix all six of these cards and many other types for light rail and rail. These particular ones we were requested to attend to site and assist in fitting. Proud moment when we turned the systems on, the fans hummed, the lights came on and the boards tested perfect. No surprises actually, just another day in the control system fix-it world of Rom-Control. 17.01.2022 Thought many of you might be interested in this. We were asked by a client recently to repair this card station which is all wire wrap technology. Thankfully we are well orginased and found our wire wrap tool and accessories. We just needed to wipe off the dust. Age and make of equipment does not matter to us, we fix it all.

15.01.2022 Several manufacturers of remote controls for cranes installed in classified areas use radio controls to eliminate cables. Wireless Crane controls are now becoming more common: the purpose is to give the operator more freedom to move around. This also eliminates cables that restrict movement and can eventually breakdown or ware out.... Usually the hand held remote control is intrinsically safe, but the receiver is not. To safely transmit and receive control transmissions, Solexy RX antenna coupler is installed into the Exd receiver housing. This allows safe transmission of signals in zone 1 areas. 12.01.2022 Noticed the following Facebook post which we thought it is excellent to share. At Rom-Control, we specialize in repairing electronic control systems from all types of industries and we have seen different coloured wires connected to similar systems based on what country and what manufacturer the equipment was supplied from. The question from the electrician who recently entered the industrial workforce was .sometimes I see control panels with wires in different colors(orang...e, white, black, gray, purple, yellow, red...). I know they are used for control systems(PLC, sensors...) but I don't know which colour is used for which circuit. Is there a standard for which colour is supposed to be used? The answers were varied and interesting as shown here but does anyone know the real answer? Answer 1. Every company *could* have a different standard. Most panel shops stick to the NEC standard. The multimeter won't lie to you. Answer 2. Orange is coming from outside the current panel. White is neutral, white with blue stripe is com. Red is 120V control power inside the panel, black is providing 120V power, usually to receptacles or circuit breakers. Blue is 24V. That's the standard everyone should use. And from the person that built the panel as shown abo e in the picture - actually, I built this control panel 2 yeas ago The engineer that planned it doesn't know why he used that color coding, this is how they teach in electrical engineering school so it is what I did.

12.01.2022 CPU fan failure can happen anytime? Here is a recently identified problem with CPU cooling fan in a CNC machine that actually failed. Unfortunately the CPU overheated and cooked. just a remainder.. Computers usually have temperature sensors to let you know when the CPU is overheating but this feature is rare on electronically controlled machinery. We have seen this many times, and the CPU usually burns out when the machine is being used because you have orders to fill. It never breaks down when you dont need the machine. With the hot weather upon us, now is the time to check and ensure those cooling fans are clean and working properly.

12.01.2022 We recently completed a thermal imaging report for one of our clients manufacturing facilities. We provide this service as it is one of the most effective predictive maintenance methods to analyse equipment health and reveal any potential sources of future failure. This image is interesting as we were able to prove that the motor was running at nearly 50C not because of a bearing issue, but due to the drive coupler. We recommend a thermal survey at periodic intervals to ensure production uptime and asset reliability.

06.01.2022 Something that came in recently is four Inverter Drive Panels. We dont know how many panels make up the control system as we only received a few to repair. We think the system is somewhere around 500KW to 1 MW. Everything from leaking cooling water jackets to broken wires to faulty resistors but all working now, so does that make Raj a plumber as well as an electronics technician (extraordinaire)

03.01.2022 Industrial machinery and control systems can be used for many years, usually well beyond the manufacturuers original intention.
