23.01.2022 How much toothpaste are you putting on your child's toothbrush? It is very important that children only use children's toothpaste. We recommend children aged three years and under only use a smear of toothpaste the size of a grain of rice on their toothbrush.... Children aged between three to six years old should only be using a pea-sized amount of toothpaste on their toothbrush. Data shows that half the children and adolescents surveyed were using too much, or too little toothpaste.

17.01.2022 PLAY IT SAFE The Australian Dental Association recommends a custom-fitted mouthguard for all Australians who participate in contact sport or sports with a high risk of dental injury. 'You are at just as much risk during training as you are during the game'... Why do I need a custom-fitted mouthguard? - They make breathing and speaking easier than over-the-counter products. - They offer more comfort. - They offer greater protection than ill fitting 'boil and bite' products that can be dangerous during impact. The Damage: Dental trauma from a sporting injury can include damage to the tooth nerve, damage to the tooth structure, a broken jaw, damage to the tongue, and cut lips. This type of trauma can lead to a lifetime of dental treatment. Prevention is always better than the cure - So play it safe and wear a mouthguard!

14.01.2022 When is the right time to take your child to the dentist? No child is too young to come and see us, it's a good idea to get them used to the environment and sitting in the big chair! Our dentists are fantastic with kids. We strive to create a fun and comfortable environment that is non-invasive and friendly. Little Taylor enjoyed his dental check-up for the second time and was very confident jumping up onto the dental chair.

13.01.2022 The Custom-Fitted Mouthguard - What to expect - Cooper's Experience Cooper needed a mouthguard for football. The first step in the process is for Dr Lee to take impressions of his teeth. The impressions are used to make plaster models of his teeth. Our technician will then design and make his uniquely fitted mouthguard. When Cooper has the mouthguard fitted, Dr Lee will advise him on how to care for it properly. Cooper will need to bring his mouthguard to his check-up appoint...ments so it can be checked. His mouthguard will need replacing if he has new teeth erupt or if damage has occured. We are so proud that Cooper is 'Playing it Safe'
13.01.2022 Tips to keep your children's teeth healthy all year round * Brushing teeth twice a day can decrease decay up to 25%. Children should be supervised by a parent up until the age of eight years old * Use a toothbrush that has soft round ended bristles of different heights so that teeth and gums are cleaned effectively without damage... * You should begin flossing your childs teeth by the age of four. Children should be able to do it by themselves around the age of eight * By the age of six, children can begin using a pea sized amount of regular adult fluoride toothpaste when brushing. This will assist in growing healthy and strong teeth and gums * Never let your children share their toothbrush. Keep them separate and make sure they are rinsed and dried after use * Six monthly check ups are also recommended to monitor your childrens teeth If you would like to make an appointment for your child, give us a call on 9295 1228 or simply click on the BOOK NOW button on our Facebook page.

08.01.2022 Not sure when to take your child for their first dental visit? The Australian Dental Association advises that you take your child for their first visit to the dentist when their first teeth appear or by 12 months. It's great to introduce your child to the dentist and the dental environment. It's also wise to visit regularly building trust and familiarity with your family dentist.
08.01.2022 It's not just a toothbrush! 6 interesting facts Fact 1: If your toothbrush has worn out bristles, it doesn't clean as well. That's why dentists recommend replacing toothbrushes when they appear to be worn out (roughly after 6-16 weeks).... Fact 2: Dentists recommend that a toothbrush be kept at least two metres away from a toilet. This will avoid airborne bacteria particles contaminating your toothbrush when flushing the toilet. This is particularly important with the COVID-19 pandemic. Fact 3: We recommend replacing your toothbrush after you've had the flu, a cold or any other viral infection. This is particularly important with the COVID-19 pandemic. Germs on the bristles of your toothbrush can lead to re-infection. Fact 4: Although putting a cap on your toothbrush sounds like a good idea, it actually traps moisture that can cause bacteria growth. Yuck! Fact 5: The average person spends a total of 38.5 days brushing their teeth during their life time, but it should be more like 122 days! Fact 6: Brushing your teeth three times a day for two minutes each time can burn more than 3,500 calories a year. So, you could lose a kilo per year just by brushing your teeth!

03.01.2022 How does sugar damage your teeth? The combination of bacteria in the mouth and sugars from different foods produces acids that dissolve and damage your teeth. How much sugar should I eat in a day?... It is recommended to consume less than 5% of the daily total energy intake to decrease your risk of tooth decay. * For the average healthy adult, this equals approximately 24 grams or 6 teaspoons of sugar * 1 teaspoon sugar = 4 grams sugar To help prevent the effects of sugar in your mouth: * Drink soft drinks in moderation * Use a straw so your teeth are less exposed to the sugar and acid * Drink water (preferably from the tap as it contains fluoride) after a sugary or acidic drink to help rinse out your mouth and dilute the sugars * Wait at least one hour after having a sugary drink before you brush your teeth (preferably with a fluoride toothpaste). This will allow the enamel to recover and reharden before you brush your teeth * Do not sip a sugary or acidic drink slowly or over a long duration as this exposes your teeth to sugar and acid attacks over a longer period of time * Never drink sugary or acidic drinks before you go to bed as this will create a coating of sugar and acid that damages the teeth all night long If you have any questions, call our friendly team on 9295 1228.
