25.01.2022 And just like that, we are in the final week of Term 3, 2020! Despite all of the upheaval created by COVID-19, we have enjoyed a very busy and productive term at Roper Tutoring Co. We welcomed the majority of our existing students back, as well as many new faces who came on board to take advantage of our specialised small group tuition. Something that this unprecedented time has highlighted for me is the importance of RESILIENCE and the significant role it plays in the clas...sroom. It has been amazing to watch so many of our students overcome anxieties about returning to school. I have watched our students meet and exceed the challenges created by the gap in their learning programs and push through this time of adversity to come out the other side with even better results. Our tutors have led the charge through this uncertain time by creating an environment that is inclusive and supportive, allowing students to regain momentum, re-establish their confidence and build that vital internal resilience. Our tutors are constantly checking in and assessing the individual needs of every student, helping to refine their foundation skills and creating learning experiences that best prepare them for upcoming assessments. We are so excited to see what the final term of this crazy year will bring for all of our amazing students We are currently drafting the Term 4, 2020 timetable and have very limited places left. If you want your child to see the year out on a high note, get in touch NOW and secure their place! 0400 237 925 [email protected] www.ropertutoringco.com

24.01.2022 How are your children coping in this COVID-19 landscape? As more restrictions are lifted and school becomes compulsory for all students to attend, it is so important that we consistently check in with them and address any worries about school they may have developed over the past few months. Openly discussing their concerns, acknowledging how challenging this time has been and helping them to set achievable goals are important steps which will help to establish a positive att...itude towards their schoolwork. Every day at Roper Tutoring Co. we see the benefits created by open and supportive lines of communication between students, parents, teachers and tutors. We welcome regular and ongoing feedback aimed at creating an environment where students feel safe and supported to address their challenges and reach their goals. How has your child’s classroom experience been impacted by this unprecedented time of change?

20.01.2022 It’s exam week for our year 11 and 12 students, a time that can be fraught with stress and overwhelm as they manage their need to study and their after-school commitments Yesterday I learnt that one of our students at Roper Tutoring Co. is currently managing TWO after-school jobs while maintaining excellent grades in all of her ATAR subjects. I was really intrigued to get a sense of how she manages week to week, especially during high stress times like exams. Firstly, she ...explained why she has taken on so much extra responsibility in the form of two after-school jobs. The goal of paying for her own car and achieving the independence that your own transport brings you has always been important to her She feels empowered to set goals like this, outside of her academic achievements, because of the extra help and support she knows she will get from tutoring Her tutoring sessions have helped to motivate her to set SMART goals, stick to budgets, manage her time, be strategic, be organised, and importantly, ask for help when she needs it. She plans her various commitments weeks in advance, she pre-empts upcoming assessments and exams so she isn’t overwhelmed and is able to commit the time she needs to both study and work. She is constantly checking in with her tutor and together they re-define her learning plan as her study requirements change. She is developing skills that go way beyond the classroom. She is learning the importance of hard work and gaining the satisfaction of setting and achieving personal and academic goals It never ceases to amaze me what our young people are truly capable of when given the right tools to do it. Students are never too young to start prioritising Smart Goal Setting and making it a fundamental part of their approach to learning. Take some time this week to have a conversation with your child about setting some SMART Goals for the rest of the year! Remember SMART goals are: Specific Measurable Achievable Relevant Timely

20.01.2022 Is your child thinking about exams yet? Preparation for exams should start NOW! Did you know that end-of-year exams in most subjects will be a test of the whole year’s content? Students often underestimate the proportion of semester 1 content that will make an appearance in their final exams. I see students neglect the areas that were taught in class long ago and tend to allocate only a small amount of their study preparation or cramming to revisit them. This last-minute ...approach to revision can have a huge impact on your child’s exam results. Our weekly tutoring sessions provide the time and space to consistently review these areas and re-assess your child’s understanding of these concepts. By engaging in tutoring every week our tutors can help your child commit the strategies they need to succeed during exams to their long-term memory. Our tutors are all experienced, fully qualified, registered classroom teachers - we write, administer and mark exams all the time so we understand how to best prepare for them. We can identify gaps in your child’s knowledge and provide an engaging and supportive environment to consolidate long forgotten concepts and address challenging areas of need, well before exam time hits! 20.01.2022 Creating Independent Learners! This is what we are all about. This is the goal for every single student who passes through the doors of Roper Tutoring Co. One of our year 5 students, who came to us over a year ago with a great deal of anxiety about participating in the classroom and with D grades in both English and Maths, has found incredible success with our small group tutoring. ... Undertaking two sessions per week allowed her to deeply engage with both learning areas, it provided opportunities outside of the pressures of the classroom to tackle challenges and ask questions, helping to alleviate her unease and grow her confidence. She has absolutely thrived in the learning environment created by our tutors; her results have improved considerably having achieved B grades for both subjects this term and the anxiety she once felt going to school has disappeared. What is so exciting about this student’s progress is that now having achieved these results and developed her confidence she feels empowered to tackle the English learning area independently next term. This is the ultimate goal for us. To equip our students with the skills and confidence they need to WANT to learn independently. Moving forward we will be working with her parents to develop an individualised spelling program that they can do together at home to continue to consolidate and extend her English learning. This is just one of the many success stories I’ve heard this week as I have reflected with parents about their child’s progress this term. Term 3 is shaping up to be a big one at Roper Tutoring Co. we have limited spots available so get in touch now to discuss how we can provide this specialised support to your child 0400 237 925 www.ropertutoringco.com

19.01.2022 Welcome back to Term 2 at Roper Tutoring Co. 18.01.2022 I had a student come running up to me yesterday, bursting with pride as she shared her latest Maths result of 85% with me. While the result itself is so impressive, it was the obvious pride this student felt within herself that shone through. She was beaming as she explained how happy she was with her mark and how good it felt to walk out of a test with confidence, knowing she’d done well This is the ultimate reward as a teacher; seeing your students develop into independe...nt, confident learners. I watch students who come to tutoring every week work through their challenges and get results that prove what they are capable of. I see them develop skills at tutoring that support them the very next day in the classroom, the following week in an exam, and years down the track when they are challenged and need to draw on their own self-confidence I cannot wait to hear about more of the amazing results our students at Roper Tutoring Co. achieve this term!

17.01.2022 It has been a busy few weeks at Roper Tutoring Co. We have been so pleased to see so many familiar faces return to us this term and so excited to welcome some new ones too! Reopening our doors and successfully transitioning into our new way of doing things has only been possible because of our incredible team. I hope you all know how much I appreciate your ongoing efforts in helping Roper Tutoring Co. get back on its feet and begin to thrive once again. We absolutely could not do this without you.

08.01.2022 Light-bulb moments When a student has a light-bulb moment, when something really sticks, really hits home, really forces them to ask more questions and seek more answers - this is what this job is all about. Recently I took a Year 11 group through a financial mathematics activity, presenting them with a real world scenario that required them to critically analyse hypothetical job offers, salary and tax structures and the projected cost of living. They had to determine whic...h job was the best choice and how it played into their expectations about their lifestyle. This activity really brought home for them the power of choice. It showed them how their education, skills and qualifications directly affected their choices and the power that comes with having options. Total light-bulb moment. In our tutoring sessions at Roper Tutoring Co. we are using specific and engaging learning experiences that challenge your child to think beyond the classroom. We are developing their critical thinking, communication and negotiation skills and empowering them with the confidence they need to advocate for what they want. Enrolments for the new year are officially OPEN and we are already filling places FAST! 07.01.2022 What if I told you that you have the power to shape your future? This is how I began my presentation at Gooseberry Hill Primary School’s Year 6 Leadership Breakfast last week. I was honoured to accept an invitation to be a guest speaker at this important event which is aimed at inspiring the Year 6 cohort of students to embrace their roles as leaders and start actively thinking about their futures. Looking around the room, full of eager faces, supportive parents and fello...w educators, I shared my journey over the last decade and how my mindset and personal process of goal setting has led me to becoming the best teacher I can possibly be I also shared some insight into the types of personal goals I have outside of teaching. The goals that Grace and I created together and how they have evolved, alongside my teaching career, over the last 10 years. I talked about how the path that led us to creating Roper Tutoring Co. and the thriving business it is today was not straightforward or easy. I explained how much sacrifice, hard work, determination and consistent goal setting goes into a dream like ours. I really wanted to show these students what was possible with a clear strategy for achieving our goals and how we adapted to the changes we faced. I talked about the biggest (and best) change being the arrival of our little boy Sonny and the important realisation that came with starting a family. I quickly learnt that time is my most precious resource. My goals for our future, for our business, for my career, were all suddenly brought into question and I realised how much more time I wanted with my family. While Sonny is a young kid at home learning all about the world, I want to be HIS teacher. And with another child on the way, this year has never been a better time to re-evaluate and re-focus my goals on being the best father I can possibly be When you set a goal, it shouldn’t stay written on a piece of paper, or saved in an untouched word document. Your goal needs to become a part of your every day, you need to re-visit and re-evaluate it, brainstorm ideas and problem-solve solutions until you achieve it. As parents, we need to be creating space for our kids to explore SMART goal setting from an early age. We need to offer opportunities to talk about their futures in positive and supportive ways and help them uncover the power they have to shape them Remember, SMART Goals are: S - Specific M - Measurable A - Achievable R - Relevant T - Time-focused Have you talked to your Year 6 student about their goals for the next year?

04.01.2022 Tutoring is not just for students who need extra help. Our specialised approach to tuition is designed to support students at all stages of their academic journey, including high achievers with their sights set on even better results One of our students, who has been with us for the last year, recently achieved the TOP mark across his entire year group for his Algebra Mathematics assessment. This incredible result comes after months of tutoring where we have individualised ...our approach to his needs and goals, extending his understanding of problem-solving strategies This is work he has been doing all year, not just in the four weeks that was dedicated to this subject in class. His consistent attendance at tutoring has given him the opportunity to continuously revise and extend his knowledge, putting him on a trajectory to achieve exceptional results and study Maths at the highest level in upper school. His hard work and extra dedication now will mean he has more choice and greater opportunities later Whatever your child’s academic goals are, we can help them get there! 0400 237 925 [email protected] www.ropertutoringco.com

02.01.2022 The silly season is certainly upon us. One of the perks of the Christmas shopping rush is running into so many students in the aisles of Target at Midland Gate. It’s such an awesome feeling to hear my name called out by students I haven’t taught for years, who rush up to me to tell me which uni they got into or the promotion they just got at work. I’ve been teaching for nearly a decade, so many of the students I’ve taught have graduated and forged their paths beyond th...e classroom and out into the world. There’s a reason we called this special little business of mine Roper Tutoring Co. and when students and parents stop in their tracks to shake my hand, share a win, ask for advice or even just say hello I’m reminded why. It’s because I am Roper Tutoring Co. This business proudly carries my name, my legacy as a teacher, my whole approach to education. When I’m in front of students I want my way of teaching to be memorable, I want to be that Maths teacher that they talk about in another 10 years time as the teacher who changed things for them, who showed them a new approach or reignited their passion for learning. I’m so proud to run a business that allows me to create these connections and see the fruit that comes from it so many years later. So if you see me in Kmart, likely in the toy section with a toddler, stop a while, it really does make all the hard work worth it.
