22.01.2022 I love walking around the Burnley Gardens. Not only to admire its beauty but also for inspiration and often to see plants I have forgotten
22.01.2022 Beautiful deciduous bulb adds gorgeous green leaves and bright pink colour to the garden. Camberwell Garden Sept 2014.
21.01.2022 Some of the most beautiful cherry blossoms; I see why it is a must do! Shinjuku-gyoen, Shinjuku, Tokyo
20.01.2022 Small spaces can be really tricky to work with. These are some great courtyards.
19.01.2022 Small Japanese water garden to natural grasses by the river Hakone, Japan
19.01.2022 How clever is my client? Growing beans while the creepers are very young and small. The shape of the leaves and the bright pink flowers are a beautiful addition to the garden, as well as being productive.
18.01.2022 How lovely to see our beautiful garden featured in the latest Outdoor design and Living Magazine.
16.01.2022 One of the oldest Japanese gardens in Tokyo Koishikawa korakuen with the garden changing in every direction: a slowly rolling hill covered in mini bamboo; cherry blossom still hanging on; beautiful lakes.
16.01.2022 The starting point for the design of this garden was the back garden, and the front wall. After finishing the inside of their home, my clients were ready to beg...in on the garden. We were to keep the silver birches, and needed some lawn for their dog Bronty, but otherwise the garden was to look beautiful though the large windows across the back, but could we also hide the brick house behind. We also needed a large paved area so that Carmel could entertain her family and friends, with a long table full of food in summer. Reflecting her background we put olives and rosemary in the raised bed (hiding the garage door) and lemons on either side of the built in barbeque. Behind the Boston Ivy wall are two water tanks that allow them to keep the garden lush over summer. The stone clad pond is the central feature of the back garden, duplicated at the side, and then the same rocks are used for the front wall and the central pillar of the bird bath. The back garden has lots of green plantings, such as the Portuguese Laurel growing across the back as a green wall. Lots of different textures are in the foliage of the varying plants, with the buxus balls standing out from amongst the free forms of the plants around. The path steps down the side, under the wisteria, past the second water feature, where the water gently pours out the spouts from amongst the green wall. The sasanqua camellias on the side will slowly grow and soften the painted paling fence. The front garden follows the square pavers to the front verandah, where the original crazy paving exists. Mondo grass breaks the area, and compliments the weeping Japanese maples. A lot of plants in the front garden were kept from the original garden or pots, such as the maples, the silver birches, the magnolias, the clivias and the large weeping cherry. We also decided to keep the large camellia in front of the bedroom window and the large ballerina apples. As you enter through the rock wall, you meander on the sandstone crazy paving path around the feature bird bath. The four Crepe myrtles will grow and fill this area to create almost an entrance room. Then the path leads through the Arthropodiums to the front door area. The garden changes continually, as plants flower, bulbs come up, leaves fall. There is always something to look at. The buxus balls continue in the front garden to provide some strength to the planting. (The camellias were planted along the front to grow into a lovely hedge between the pillars of the wall, but as the large plane tree in the nature strip has died, we might have to look at something a bit more sun tolerant in the future.)
15.01.2022 Pool and garden are all looking great, but will look even better once we clad the end water wall with natural stone
15.01.2022 Small back garden; not a lot of sun and needing some screen from the apartments behind.

05.01.2022 This side courtyard garden was the final area to be planted for my clients. They wanted this area to be a place for the grandchildren to enjoy as well as out their big window. It also needed to block the view of the neighbours air conditioning unit and their gutter as much as possible without enclosing the space.
03.01.2022 Do you struggle to grow plants in sticky clay soils? Or do you know someone who does? (Share this post with them to help!) We often get asked what to plant in ...CLAY SOIL. And what to plant to create a little privacy with your neighbor. Considering most of Sydney has clay soils its amazing how often we plant the wrong thing (...camellia, murraya, banksia, grevillea). The beautiful Australian Bottlebrush (Callistemon) are in full flower now, usually bright blood red, but they do come in other colours and better still they THRIVE in clay soils. We just wanted to let know you of the huge range available (in pictures) and suggest you spend half a day at wildflower nursery near you to help get your garden on the right road! We like The Wildflower Place or Sydney Wildflower Nursery and Newcastle Wildflower Nursery. We know theyll help you choose the perfect plant. Heres a few Ross family favourites to get you started. They grow 1m, 2m, 3m and 4m. But make sure you lightly prune them every year after flowering and youll be so pleased you did. The Garden Clinic x See more
