20.01.2022 **First year anniversary** Today is one year to the day our first 500 hens arrived, and what an incredible year it has been! It's been a roller coaster of a ride, and a steep learning curve but we've achieved so much. ... Our latest project - building a boutique chicken caravan - was completely unimaginable 12 months ago; but after 500 hours of work the first sneak peak of the prototype has arrived :) We are so grateful to all of our beautiful friends and family for all of their help and support! We've had such a fun year building this budding business to 2000 hens. The highlight has easily been the wonderful people we've met along the way who have given has such energy and drive! We can't wait to see what the next year will bring. Spoiler alert... Custom built Chicken Caravan 2 and 3 are underway so plenty of growth to come :D #pasturedeggs #familyandfriends #smallbusiness

20.01.2022 When you look up and you’re all alone! Where did everyone go? #lowdensity #pasturedpoultry

19.01.2022 Great to have a day off farm-duties today, thanks to Ryan and Kallan for making sure the hens stay cool, and have plenty of water and feed available !

11.01.2022 The pastured are slowly but surely turning green, won't be long now until the seasonal orange in the yolks returns #pasturedeggs #pasturedeggsyum #seasons

09.01.2022 Thanks everyone for well wishes and your concern! We didn't mean to cause alarm. While less than ideal, we'll treat this as a lesson in resilience and work through. Remarkably the housing unit (less the roof) held up really well, and the hens seem completely unaffected!!

08.01.2022 Hens favouring the shade heavily today as temperature hit 34 degrees!

07.01.2022 Green treats on a dry summer day, great for hydration!

07.01.2022 First post in a while - well, almost our first post! We resolved this week that we need to do better to let people know how the farm is going, so starting now we are going to try to post at least weekly, a small blog post on what we are up to. 7 June BLOG post On the business front it was a quiet week. We've been pretty cautious about taking on too many outlets because we want to make sure that we can consistently fill all of our orders. But as demand fluctuates and this wee...k was quiet, we decided to add a few outlets (TBA soon). Hopefully, we've got the balance right now! On farm, it finally rained! 23.8mm in Lower Chittering in the last 24 hours! We took advantage of that to experiment with pasture improvement. We've added clover to 4 hectares (10.5 acres), it's highly nutritious. We hope the chickens love it, it will be interesting to see if it reduces their supplementary feed requirements. Good news to the end the week too, the Kyilla Community Farmers Market will go on this weekend! Thanks to the great efforts of the market organiser and the support of the school community, the markets will be moved inside out of the weather - hope to see you there!

06.01.2022 Always great to have help on the farm!

05.01.2022 Well, the wet weather has arrived, over 100mm in the last week. The ground is saturated but it surely turning green which will make for very happy hens. The clover we planted last week is starting to shoot roots. In hindsight we should have put them 10mm under as the chickens have already taken a liking to the clover seeds! Seeds/oats were theme of the week as we got drawn into re-bagging tonnes of oats. Hopefully next year we get to sit in the tractor instead. ... This week we sold out again! We are really happy to have IGA Mount Hawthorn stocking our eggs now. We are also grateful to be part of a great community with a massive turnout to Kyilla Markets last weekend (despite the wet and windy conditions). We love meeting and chatting with our customers, Saturday's are very quickly becoming our favourite day of the week. See you tomorrow!

04.01.2022 **Away from @kyillafarmersmarket tomorrow, 22 August** One of the toughest things about small scale pastured eggs is managing variable supply. It’s a beautiful time of year but the recent rainfall has reduced our production by enough that we need to skip our fortnightly market tomorrow. In between the showers we’ve been busy at work building two new caravans to alleviate the supply/demand imbalance. ... Special thanks to Clint for his workmanship and innovative design skills! #pasturedeggs #chickencaravan @ Lower Chittering, Western Australia

04.01.2022 Our newest member of the family, Mac had his first day on the job today. Most of the hens took to him pretty well, some went for the trees, but overall it was a good day and he's settling in well despite the hot weather! We are thrilled to welcome Mac from Manavi Farm Pastured Eggs - a great family business :)

03.01.2022 That's not where I parked it! We'll be away from @kyillafarmersmarket tomorrow, but hopefully back on our feet soon.
