24.01.2022 Beyond awareness, Code Read Dyslexia Network’s key campaign goal is to change people’s view of dyslexia and to emphasise that dyslexia is not linked to intelligence, and that those with dyslexia can learn to read.
22.01.2022 What do I know about snails? Not so much. But I do know their antennae are amazing metaphors for trust, transformation and repair in human relationships. And more. It’s so easy to hurt the feelings of those around us without even knowing why, but it is surprisingly easy, and so important, to also repair the damage that’s been done. #Connection #RuptureRepair #RestorativePractice #NilsChristie... https://www.themercury.com.au//1c9aa76d264d4b3e6bd4e684e10
21.01.2022 Did you know that one woman per week is killed by a current or former partner in Australia? Such an overwhelming statistic. Citizen Tasmania are using the energy released by such an emotional upheaval to fuel a new campaign: #OneAWeek to #NoneAWeek Together, we can spark a transformation in our society. Citizen has brought together diverse leaders in the Citizen Tasmania Action Group to tackle family violence in our communities. Check out some snippets from the meetings in t...his video. We are grateful to Nayri Niara and LongHouse Hobart for enabling this work of justice in their beautiful space. Thank you also to the incisive and brilliant Mary Massina for chairing the group with energy and passion. #justice #familyviolence #womensrights #OneAWeek See Less https://facebook.com/citizentas/videos/4038253696203239/
21.01.2022 I admire the courage of the mum in this story so much. Courage has three key elements: 1. Caring for the hearts of others - her son 2. Accepting the challenge to follow one's own heart - a mother's love 3. Dismantling the barriers to following one's heart - fear so often being one of those barriers... #Courageous #Inspirational #Honest #Raw #Whole

13.01.2022 So proud of my Fairy Goddaughter, Grace Williams, who was today awarded a Tasmanian Human Rights Week Kindness & Compassion Award. Kindness is the direct opposite to the violation of human rights. It's the perfect human quality to promote in view of expanding human rights. Kindness has incredible strength and power for making transformational change in oneself and in others. It dissolves racism and exclusion and discrimination. They're gone. Just like that. Beautiful Grace ...embodies kindness. Here's the story behind her award: Grace is a gentle activist. As Founder of human rights organisation, Citizen Tasmania, she is bringing broad-brush kindness to our world through the awareness she is raising. But she was nominated for this award for a personal kindness she extended to someone having trouble integrating into Tasmania. She invited him to volunteer at Citizen Tasmania and then took personal care to include and support him into opportunities that arose from this. Grace was focused on overarching goals but did not lose focus on the human individual. This is inspiration to do the work in the world that one is called to, but without losing one of those little ones. Thank you, Grace. We thank you and acknowledge your kind work of the heart writ large to society and writ attentively to individuals. Thank you to Tasmania's Anti-Discrimination Commissioner and the teams at Equal Opportunity Tasmania for making this gorgeous celebration of 20 worthy recipients happen; and for inviting me to be part of judging it. #UDHR #HumanRightsDay #HumanRightsWeek Equal Opportunity Tasmania

11.01.2022 Code REaD Dyslexia Network's dyslexia awareness campaign "Read My Frustration" launched today, Monday 24th August. The seven steps of success for the campaign? I'm glad you asked! 1Increase Dyslexia awareness and the need for urgent action to support all people living with dyslexia in Australia. 2Change people’s view of dyslexia and remove the misconceptions that it’s linked to intelligence and that those with dyslexia cannot learn to read. 3Australia wide adoption of Y...ear 1 Phonics Check for every child, to identify struggling readers. 4Immediate and evidence-based classroom instruction and appropriate intervention in schools, based on the phonics check outcomes. 5Medicare funding for formal Dyslexia assessments. Consistent nationwide funding for Dyslexia Support in schools via the Nationally Consistent 6Collection of Data (NCCD) process, with allocated funds for dyslexics, spent specifically on dyslexia support. 7Mandate that Primary School, Initial Teacher Education courses provide sufficient course content about dyslexia and how to use evidence-based teaching practices to teach dyslexics, as well as, mandated, ongoing professional development for current incumbent teachers. YES's from me! Share and show your support. We can all play a part in achieving these seven steps. #100PercentLiteracy #ReadMyFrustration https://www.facebook.com/watch/
11.01.2022 Yay, Courtney! Great contribution to #100PercentLiteracy!
10.01.2022 I had the biggest surprise a couple of weeks ago when an email dropped into my inbox from the lovely Kirsty Eade, editor of The Mercury Newspaper's TasWeekend Magazine. She asked me if I'd consider writing for the mag occasionally. Gosh. This was so unexpected. I've come to realise that I usually feel like I should say 'yes' to unexpected opportunities. I also feel the height and depth of the privilege it is that Kirsty and her team even thought to ask me. Thank you Kirsty... and Amanda. #privilege #people #connection #love #100percentliteracy https://www.themercury.com.au//c41b6c31aec71f6281213f578bc
09.01.2022 Parker J. Palmer will be zooming into our beautiful Tassie for the Tasmanian Leaders annual congress. Get your tix! Parker is quiet incredible! (It's not a typo. Though he is quite incredible too!) See you there! #Trust #Leadership #Democracy #Connection Great pull-together, Angela Driver and team!
09.01.2022 "a story not only about being generous to others, but also about being kind to ourselves." Lovely, Danielle Wood. Thank you!
06.01.2022 Shaun Ziegenfusz is a speech pathologist with a particular focus on Developmental Language Disorder (DLD). He's written this great piece to help us understand the problem - which affects 1 in 14 children! - and to understand its implications. The great news is that a lot is known about how to support DLD. The Connect42 seminar Colleagues @ The Heart of Literacy will help to share this knowledge. #100PercentLiteracy #DLDSeeMe RADLD - Raising Awareness of Developmental Language Disorder
05.01.2022 I had a ball reviewing this year's Tasmanian Human Rights Week awards! The focus was on kindness and compassion - opposites to the violation of human rights. In fact, kindness and compassion are engines for the expansion of human rights. Big thanks to The Mercury Newspaper for giving some air to this important subject. Check out the stories on the Equal Opportunity Tasmania website. They're wonderful! #HumanRights #Kindness #Compassion
04.01.2022 In the beautiful The Longhouse . of the NAYRI NIARA Good Spirit Festival, a group of us gathered to explore healthy and hope-filled sustained action in the world. Without flipping out to corrosive cynicism or irrelevant idealism, we CAN find ways to sustain ourselves while holding the tension of the tragic gap between the way things are and the way we would like things to be. These words and ideas are those of Parker J. Palmer of the Center for Courage & Renewal (CCR). We u...sed the practices of the CCR's Circle of Trust to connect and reflect, to sow seeds of change that can keep growing in the days and months ahead.
