22.01.2022 Progressive governments in the ACT and New Zealand are demonstrating the strengths and possibilities of collaborative governance. Why can't we have this in lutruwita/Tasmania too?
21.01.2022 Today the Tasmanian Greens proudly delivered our fully costed Alternative Budget. The Greens plan lays out a path for a social and economic recovery from COVID driven by investment in people and ramping up climate positive action. Watch the video to find out more, or read the plan in full on our website: ... https://tasmps.greens.org.au/pol/alternative-budget-2020-21 See more
21.01.2022 The Greens are proud to stand alongside Bob Brown Foundation and the vast majority of Tasmanians who want this island’s wild, carbon-rich forests protected from logging madness. It is very disappointing that today the Federal Court did not uphold BBF's case against native forest logging in lutruwita/Tasmania. It’s clear our federal environmental laws are too weak to protect threatened and endangered species.... But any government that genuinely wanted to protect threatened species, or be taken seriously on climate, would already be working to end native forest logging. Instead, the Liberals are choosing to play cynical, dishonest politics at huge cost to the environment. As Bob says, while this is a setback, it won’t stop those who are determined to end this senseless forest destruction.

20.01.2022 The eye of an exhausted pilot whale, in the throes of being rescued. (Photo credit: Mell Chun, AFP) Amazingly, 14 more pilot whales have swum to freedom on the West Coast, taking the total to 108. Thanks to the terrific rescue crew, working tirelessly in freezing water. Your love is an inspiration.
18.01.2022 Arts Tasmania and Screen Tasmania must remain independent of political interference.
17.01.2022 Cracking sunny day for the launch of Tarremah Steiner School’s 100kw solar system. Well done Susteinerables! Never too small to make a difference on climate action
17.01.2022 Great to be standing in the rain today with a crowd of 350 others for the School Strike 4 Climate As Seb said: Standing in the rain is not fun. We’d rather be inside a heated classroom. But we’re here in the rain to learn. And to stand up for climate action and our future! The Greens are with you on that journey all the way. ... Climate Action Now See more
16.01.2022 This week in Parliament, Environment Minister Roger Jaensch confirmed the Department of State Growth has blocked important nesting habitat for the critically endangered swift parrot, as part of a road widening project that is yet to receive development approval. The Minister confirmed the trees had been identified by the Department as potential habitat. This confirmation was why, he said, the hollows had been blocked. Apparently the Liberals think removing habitat equates ...to protection. This is madness and Tasmanians won’t buy it when it comes to the swift parrot, every tree hollow matters.
14.01.2022 Yes! Well done Bob Brown Foundation - a stay on Forestry Tasmania destroying the feeding and breeding trees essential to Tasmania’s critically endangered Swift parrot.
13.01.2022 Today is National Police Remembrance Day. The solemn service in Tasmania honoured and remembered those police officers who died in the service of their community. With gratitude to their dedication and contributions.
13.01.2022 The last haven in lutruwita/Tasmania for the leafy sun orchid is Rosny Hill. According to developers, building a 300 metre long hotel in this nature reserve would somehow help protect the orchid. But according to Department of Environment officers, the hotel would pose a 'high risk' to this fragile species. ... Despite this clear advice, Environment Minister Roger Jaensch has failed to step in to protect this threatened species. Minister, whose side are you on?
12.01.2022 If you're in nipaluna/Hobart, come down to Parliament Lawns today at 2pm to show your support for climate action EVENT DETAILS: https://www.facebook.com/events/652734638701785/... (Of course please make sure you stay home if you're at all unwell, and maintain social distancing if you do come along)
11.01.2022 The Liberals continue to sanction the killing of tens of thousands of native Tasmanian animals. It beggars belief that permits are being handed out for the next 5 years to kill wildlife, especially when there's no credible population monitoring of any of these animals. This is a recipe for a wildlife crash in Tasmania.... READ THE STORY: https://www.examiner.com.au//quota-data-reveals-animal-cu/
11.01.2022 The deaths of at least 360 pilot whales on the west coast of lutruwita/Tasmania is heartbreaking. Today in Parliament we paid tribute to these beautiful creatures, and thanked the people who are doing everything they can to save them. The rescuers' emotion, and their care to relieve the suffering of these sentient beings, has been inspiring to see. ...
09.01.2022 Today’s cartoon in the Mercury. Nice work, Polly.
07.01.2022 It’s concerning that leaflets promoting coronavirus conspiracy theories are being distributed in Tasmanian letter boxes. The government needs to develop a strategy to target misinformation, rather than dealing with these matters in an ad-hoc way.
06.01.2022 Really gut wrenching fish farm damage to the beautiful Huon River. We see the same upstream, where I live. We have to end the secret deals between govt & salmon farm companies
06.01.2022 Congratulations Westbury - your nuggety resistance has fought back one bad prison site in the last year. Good speed on dispatching the other terrible one
06.01.2022 Thank you Tasman Peninsula Marine Protection for showing me around fish farm operations near Port Arthur. Increased nutrient loads are affecting the ecosystem and causing algae blooms. We need an independent Environment Protection Authority which puts ecosystem health first and looks after our waterways.
05.01.2022 Great event at nipaluna/Hobart Town Hall today with Bob Brown Foundation So good to see so many people turning up to show their support for BBF, and for ending the destruction of native forests in lutruwita/Tasmania!
03.01.2022 Absolutely tragic to see this deterioration. Just the same in the Huon and DÉntrecasteaux. All preventable of course - Liberal Govt is responsible
01.01.2022 Tens of thousands of native ducks are shot and killed in Tasmania each year over the three month hunting season. Thousands more are wounded and die an agonising death over the following hours or days. Many 'non target' birds - including endangered species - are also killed. In recognition of the extreme suffering brought about by duck hunting, Western Australia, New South Wales and Queensland have already banned this cruel practice.... Tasmania needs to follow suit. Help us make it happen by signing up to our campaign. https://greensactive.org/campaigns/end-duck-shooting/
