15.05.2022 / Johann W von Goethe / . . . .... Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was a German poet, playwright, novelist, scientist, statesman, theatre director, and critic. His works include plays, poetry, literature, and aesthetic criticism as well as treatises on botany, anatomy, and colour. He is considered to be the greatest German literary figure of the modern era. Goethe took up residence in Weimar in November 1775 following the success of his first novel, The Sorrows of Young Werther. He was ennobled by the Duke of Saxe-Weimar, Karl August, in 1782. He was an early participant in the Sturm und Drang literary movement. During his first ten years in Weimar, Goethe became a member of the Duke's privy council, sat on the war and highway commissions, oversaw the reopening of silver mines in nearby Ilmenau, and implemented a series of administrative reforms at the University of Jena. He also contributed to the planning of Weimar's botanical park and the rebuilding of its Ducal Palace." Virginia Moller CEO of Steiner Education Australia encourages everyone to visit a Steiner school, and take a look at SEA and schools’ websites to find out more about this approach to education that has great relevance in today’s society. ‘Now, more than ever before, Steiner education is recognised as a highly valued approach to develop flexible and agile thinking and an ability to collaborate and thrive in a 21st Century world’. Many Steiner schools in Australia have special events to celebrate 100 years of Steiner education in the world. A major event is the Australian Youth Conference for Year 10-12 students across Australia and NZ on 3rd - 7th September at Samford Valley Steiner School, QLD. This event showcases how powerful Steiner education is in its conscious approach to developing young people for the future. Other schools are participating in a live stream of the inspiring Youth Conference performance of ‘100 Years’ commissioned for the 100 Year celebrations. 01.01.2022 Milkwood Steiner School in Darwin has entered into a mentoring partnership with Nawarddeken Academy, an indigenous school located at Kabulwarnamyo in the centra...l west of Arnhem Land. Previously the school relied on its connection to Gunbalanya in order to have a teacher fly out for two days a week to teach. As a result of a coalition of supporters and advisors, including Milkwood's Business Manager, David Arthur working together for over a year, Nawarddeken gained its own registration with the NT department of Education. This means that they can employ their own teachers for five days a week instead of two. One of the provisions of Registration being granted was that The Academy would enter into a mentoring partnership with Milkwood for a period of two years whilst they get fully established. During the past holidays, Milkwood principal Graham Baggs had the privilege of representing David at one of the School board meetings whilst he was away on holidays. Graham flew out to the community for an overnight stay and was able to meet some of the elders, board members and families. Everybody was very welcoming and we were able to spend some time in discussions relating to reciprocal visits between our school and theirs. This last week the entire Nawarddeken school has been visiting Darwin and dropped in to visit Milkwood yesterday for two hours. They had a quick tour of the school and then the different ages split up to join in with some class activities with Milkwood students. After that both schools all had lunch together and then there was time to open the bush block and allow everyone to play together until they had to leave. Next year Milkwood will be sending a class out to Kaulwarnamyo to camp and gain some valuable insights into Indigenous culture, land management and the fabulous landscape which is Arnhem Land.
