23.01.2022 Last Friday, Running Club started again during lunchtime. The team ran an impressive 2.8km! This is a wonderful opportunity for students in Years 3-6 to develop their fitness. We can’t wait to see how they improve on their time and distance over the coming weeks. Keep up the great effort!

23.01.2022 Last Wednesday we had the Camp Quality Puppet Show. The purpose of the show was to teach students about cancer; to learn that it is not contagious and to learn about how people with cancer might look and feel and how best to support them through their illness. Thanks to Camp Quality for this engaging and informative show.

22.01.2022 To all our wonderful parents and students: Parents, I thank you so very much for all the messages of support and care and concern for the staff during this extraordinary time. I also thank you for taking on board the home learning frameworks and doing your best to help your children with their learning in amongst the million other things you are having to juggle at the moment. Students, it has been wonderful to share time with those of you who have been at school with us and ...we have truly missed all of you who have been working at home. The place just isn’t the same without you and we miss your beautiful smiles and friendly faces. Next term will look very different to the way school usually works and we will all be learning together! Take time over the holiday break to look after yourselves and each other. Remember to say prayers for those who have been adversely affected by the health crisis we are facing and to count and give thanks for our blessings. Let everything you do be done in love. 1 Corinthians 16:14

22.01.2022 This term Year 1 and 2 are participating in a Numeracy Enrichment Program called Maths on the Move. The learning experiences are a combination of outdoor and indoor activities and provide opportunities for experiential, real and purposeful learning in numeracy.

22.01.2022 Last Thursday the school held a special assembly to say a final ‘goodbye’ to Father Kieran. It was a very touching occasion that Father truly appreciated. We feel that we have been so very blessed to have Father Kieran as our Parish Priest but he was most keen to let us know that he feels truly blessed by all of us. We wish Father Kieran every happiness as he embarks on a new chapter in his life in the city of Adelaide.

19.01.2022 The Remembrance Day Ceremony held in the Lone Pine Memorial Garden on Wednesday this week was a very peaceful and moving occasion. We gathered as a school community to remember all those who suffered and died in times of conflict and to give thanks for the peace that we enjoy and to pray for ongoing peace in our world.

18.01.2022 This term in Library, students are undertaking literature studies based on the shortlisted titles from the Children's Book Council of Australia Awards. 'Hello Lighthouse' is one of the shortlisted titles in the Picture Book category. This book is written and illustrated by Sophie Blackall (a twice Caldecott Medal Winner) and historically fictionalises the story of a lighthouse keeper. The students enjoyed learning about how Sophie created this book. Afterwards, students in K-2 created a lighthouse using various craft materials, Years 3-4 imagined some of the things they would see from the perspective of a lighthouse keeper looking out of a lighthouse window and Years 5-6 used watercolour to create their own lighthouses using the book and stimulus photos. Well done to all the students on their stunning artwork!

17.01.2022 Tuesday was a unique day for ten creative and extremely dedicated Yr 6 students. It was a school day like no other as it started at 8am and finished at 6pm. Giving the group 10 straight hours to plan, draft, edit, illustrate AND publish an original book. Write a Book in a Day is a competition for students in years 5 to 12 as well as adult writing groups. The students were given a set of parameters to follow to write a book for kids in hospital with the aim to transform their... day, by transporting them to another time, place or even dimension through the power of imaginative words and pictures. It has been is a fun opportunity to help kids with serious illness. Not only are all books entered created as ebooks that will be available to hospitals around Australia, but all funds raised through the competition also go towards childhood cancer research.

17.01.2022 On Friday, the school was invaded by minibeasts! Luckily, the Year 1 teachers had told Mrs Van der Sanden that it was just the Year 1 students dressing up. 09.01.2022 The month of October is dedicated to supporting the work of Catholic Mission throughout the world. This week students participated in a range of activities to learn about, pray and raise money for the Arrupe Centre in Cambodia. The Centre supports children with disabilities, helping to empower them and offer opportunities they might otherwise not have. Some of this week’s activities included making a soccer ball with recycled materials, playing a game of soccer and participating in a class Liturgy to pray for the Arrupe Centre. Rosary students showed genuine care and concern for children in Cambodia living with disabilities. Thanks to our Year 6 students for leading the school in these activities and to the Rosary community for donating generously to this cause.

07.01.2022 Dear Families, The Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn, and indeed many other regions have been, and continue to be, under threat. The Bushfires are of such a magnitude that most will likely know of people who have lost homes and in some cases livelihood. Our flora and fauna, already under stress due to the drought, have suffered yet again. Some good news is that, at this stage, there has been no significant damage to the twelve schools in the Bushfire zones. Supporting Fam...ilies Families who have been impacted by fires will be supported by our school. Fee remissions will be available to families in genuine need. Please contact me directly by email ([email protected]) and we will provide appropriate support. Our commitment to providing quality Catholic education for all those who seek it remains unwavering. The NSW Government has published the Bushfire Recovery Assistance (https://drive.google.com//1vBaSU6IegOPhXDxX4SLxgBK90v/view). This document details a range of assistance measures available. Counselling Additional counselling services will be available for staff, students and families who need support. Donations As part of the Catholic education system, in collaboration with other relevant agencies we will be supporting those impacted by the bushfires. For now it has been recommended that the best support for those affected by the fires is to provide financial assistance through a donation to one of the following: St Vincent de Paul Society https://donate.vinnies.org.au//vinnies-nsw-bushfire-appeal NSW Rural Fire Service https://quickweb.westpac.com.au/OnlinePaymentServlet Australian Red Cross https://www.redcross.org.au//disaster-relief-and-recovery- Speaking to Children It is likely that children will be anxious and nervous as a result of the fires. This is understandable and you may be unsure of how best to respond. The following documents may be of assistance: Bushfire Fact Sheet for Parents https://docs.google.com//1qY5kPAHsFyQdkeqoz-1NTBnW_-b/edit Advice from Beyond Blue https://drive.google.com//1kMPjFbkWxyaI0D9ZW01UTG1d3E/view Headspace Mental Health https://drive.google.com//1q87V866YK2sNElJunS6mwS_yQH/view Helping Children Affected by Disasters https://drive.google.com//10d5hM-27_jepiIvIr1xk-WjKJg/view Thank You Thank you to all those who have been actively working to fight fires across our region, or providing services to those impacted by fires. Thank you for your service, dedication and commitment to our community. Please contact me if your family has been adversely affected by the fires so that appropriate supports can be put in place. I look forward to welcoming your family back to school in the coming weeks. Wishing you every blessing, Vicky van der Sanden Principal 10.01.2020

05.01.2022 We are very proud to announce that Rosary won the Chief Ministers Reading Challenge in the three categories we entered- K-2, 3/4 and 5/6. This year's challenge has been particularly demanding as every child had to read 20 or more books from March to September. Our students have logged all their reading and feel very proud of their achievements. Four of our students attended the award's ceremony last Thursday to receive the certificates and book prizes on behalf of the school. Another exciting element to the ceremony was that we got to talk with Tania McCartney, an author/illustrator who is world famous and lives in Canberra! Congratulations to all the students on a fantastic achievement.
