22.01.2022 How is your body coping with the heat? We have had some hot weather over the last week, and it looks like we are heading for another hot week-end. Heat can cause problem swelling in our feet and ankles to worsen. There are many tips and tricks to manage swelling in our feet and ankles. Stimulate your circulation by: - Self massage in the groin and behind the knees - Light stroking massage of the skin of the thigh, calf & foot - Elevate your feet higher than your hips to assist gravity to move the fluid out of your feet and ankles. Being proactive with managing problem swelling is much more effective than waiting and watching it get worse! Contact Encompass Therapy for an individual consultation to treat your problem swelling.

22.01.2022 Due to recent NSW Health Advice regarding mask wear during health consults where physical distancing is not possible, all consults will now be conducted with masks. Please bring a mask to your consult, or a mask will be provided for you as you enter the treatment room. Together we can keep our community COVID free.

13.01.2022 We are raising awareness of Lymphoedema this March! Do you know the early signs & symptoms of the early development of Lymphoedema? With early diagnosis, asses...sment, intervention and treatment, this chronic condition can be more easily managed and the quality of life improved. As the ALA advocates in the 2019 position paper on the early detection of breast cancer-related lymphoedema - education (BCRL) early assessment and intervention for lymphoedema will lead to better outcomes. By using bioimpedance technology, we are able to monitor for & detect the early development of lymphoedema before patients can feel or see signs & symptoms. If you are someone has been diagnosed with breast cancer & about to undergo treatment, or know someone who has, please contact us on 4312 7033 to find out more.

11.01.2022 Roseanne at Encompass Therapy wishes to inform her clients, referrers and the Singleton community that clinic and site-based services are suspended at this time. Recent government and health updates on the coronavirus pandemic have issued notice to businesses that they must appropriately respond to new safety and health measures to help flatten the curve in Australia. In response to this, you will have noticed some changes happening at the Singleton Health Hub if you have v...isited recently. These changes have been made in line with guidelines from the Australian Governments Department of Health as outlined in the COVID-19 Infection Control Training. Despite these measures, social distancing rules are difficult to maintain given the nature of my work, hence the suspension of service at this time. I will continue to monitor Department of Health advice regarding guidelines for allied health professionals to determine an appropriate time to recommence clinic and site-based operation. In the meantime, telehealth consults are available. This is a very simple process involving a link sent to you by email to connect to a secure server allowing us to video call. If you are interested in trialling this service free of charge, please contact me by phone, email or by making an online telehealth booking via the Encompass Therapy website at www.encompasstherapy.com.au

07.01.2022 Encompass Therapy clinic is closed this week as I am in Melbourne. I am presenting at the National Hygiene conference on a project that I have been coordinating investigating whole body vibration exposure on dozer operators working in open-cut coal mines. I will be discussing findings related to the effects of various operating techniques and how that can impact on whole body vibration exposure for the dozer operator. Important implications for operator comfort and long term health.

04.01.2022 Hi to all Thankyou for your responses to the OT social get-together scheduled for tomorrow. In light of the recent health advice to limit unnecessary social gatherings, I have decided to postpone the event. We will hopefully meet later in the year when the health situation has stabilised. 04.01.2022 We are all Occupational Beings. Its a constant struggle to explain to family and friends what exactly Im in school to become an occupational therapist- what... is that? But this period of social distancing and isolation is revealing to everyone at once exactly how dependent we are on simply DOING things and occupying ourselves. When we lose our routines and our habits, we all resist. Were trying to cling to a sense of normalcy in our activities. Losing them even affects our mental health. THIS is what Im in school to learn- to know how to help someone who has lost their occupations. We are ALL occupational beings- every single one of us. Were missing our morning commutes, coffee dates and Friday nights out. Were missing sitting in classes of 100+ students, the ease of hopping on a bus or plane or heading to the gym. Were missing life itself. Collectively, were realizing the shock of having the things we like to do, and the things we need to do, taken away from us. But this is the very experience of someone recovering from a traumatic accident or experiencing a psychotic episode. OTs work to re-establish the routines and habits that make someone who they are. To get that person back to doing and being. We are experiencing a once in a lifetime event thats showing us what its like to lose the doing and being that makes us human- the occupations we engage in each day. From one occupational being to another, I hope youre all being kind to one another, doing what brings you joy, and taking this opportunity to become more understanding. Occupation is doing, being and becoming. Occupation is health. #occupationaltherapy #community #mentalhealth #socialdistancing #student #rehabilitation
