25.01.2022 Everyones favourite garden guru Costa Georgiadis came to Rose Bay Community Garden last week to help celebrate 10 years of Compost Revolution and made a fabulous video whilst in the garden. The 10th Anniversary Compost Cake was beautiful RBCG compost created on site and carefully moulded with wriggly worms in a compost bin lid, topped with yellow banana leaf numbers and 10 lavender candles. Every Member's garden is unique and full of colour and life!

22.01.2022 RBCG have successfully applied for a WMC Environmental Grant for a new Water Tank to harvest rainwater runoff from a purpose built suspended polycarbonate roof under our Bee Hive Platform. We expect to have a 2000L tank installed by the end of Spring. The Rainwater harvested can supply our Bee & Butterfly Garden, the Chook Run and also provide on-demand availability for watering Member Plots and Communal garden areas. https://www.woollahra.nsw.gov.au//community_environmental_
21.01.2022 Woollahra Council runs a range of environmental and sustainability events and programs for Woollahra residents. Topics covered include: * Principles of composting and worm farming * Troubleshooting your compost or worm farm... * What is better for you, a compost bin or worm farm? * How to use compost and worm castings * Environmental benefits of composting and worm farming https://www.woollahra.nsw.gov.au//educatio/upcoming_events
21.01.2022 RBCG was hoping that July 1 2020 would relax the COVID-19 restrictions for outdoor gatherings, but the limitations remain unchanged. Under Covid-19 NSW Public Health Order dated 1 July 2020, RBCG are still restricted to the following: "Outdoor public gatherings... * No more than 20 people are allowed to gather outside in a public place." https://www.nsw.gov.au//what-you-can-and-cant-do-under-rul There are no Working Bees, no Events, no Workshops. New Memberships are still on hold until restrictions ease. Visitors are permitted if accompanied by an existing RBCG Member at all times and of course physical distancing must still be followed. All persons entering the garden must wash their hands with soap and water which is available at each utility station. We are all accustomed to the hygiene requirements under COVID-19, so if we all do our part to stop the spread we will be able to share our wonderful Rose Bay Community Garden again soon.
20.01.2022 Okay let’s stop for a second, how good are these portraits of insects and butterflies? Seen at Field of Mars EEC at Ryde, these amazing artworks are done by... Jill Page, who is also a teacher there apart from being a very talented artist. Operated by the NSW Department of Education, the organisation help students and teachers with fieldwork, environmental education and education for sustainability. We have the pleasure of working together with The Field of Mars EEC on some pollinators workshops that are happening soon, so be sure to watch this space for more updates!

20.01.2022 Our RBCG hens have provided endless entertainment to the neighbourhood families and 2 years of nutritious eggs to our Members. In general, ISA Brown hens expected life is only 2-3 years sadly. (see this link to the story behind ISA Brown brand: https://www.isa-poultry.com/en/product/isa-brown/) Sadly, our flock of 6 is now only 2, so our Members are looking to increase the flock of fluffy ladies with a mix of family-friendly breeds like Australorp and Wyandotte, the pretty ...black and white speckled Plymouth Rock, the white Leghorn and even the super cute Polish Frizzle! Here is some great information about the different breeds: https://www.backyardchickencoops.com.au//different-breeds-

We will update this information again by the end of the month. We are really looking forward to sharing our special garden space again with the health and safety of Members and Visitors continuing to be a priority.... https://www.nsw.gov.au//what-you-can-and-cant-do-under-rul
05.01.2022 Plenty of options for your shady spot in the garden...
05.01.2022 Sadly we have had to make the tough decision to postpone the RBCG Pumpkin Feast this Sunday. Again. The reports say the current COVID Delta variant is highly contagious, with people contracting the virus through fleeting contact, including in outdoor spaces. We cannot risk that especially since our area is regarded as a ‘hotspot’. The new restrictions require mask wearing indoors and outdoors at events and we would all have to be seated.... We just don’t think we can host this seriously delicious event and sufficiently minimise the risk of spreading COVID in our community. Thank you for your patience and understanding and please look after yourselves and each other. We win aim for another date as soon as we can and update here.
