The Gippsland Region Board is holding an information session for club delegate...s on Monday 30 November at the Maffra Bowling Club, starting at 10am. Club secretaries and presidents are also welcome to attend. The main purpose is to keep clubs informed about progress on amalgamating the North and East Gippsland Bowls Division as required by Bowls Victoria. Updates will be provided by Board Chairperson Jan Morton (the proposed Rules of Competition) and me (proposed new Region Constitution and Regulations). Please note that while this is not a formal meeting at which resolutions will be put, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and make comments. RSVP by Thursday 26 November. 16.01.2022 For the RRD players among you. Duke of Edinburgh Shield has been scheduled for 2021. Next year the event will be a month later than normal and will be held on the weekend of 22nd 23rd May. The games will be held at the venues selected for the cancelled 2020 event so we'll be playing at Lakes Entrance. Please look at your plans for next year and let me know if I can count on you to play.

12.01.2022 Dear Secretary As a result of the COVID-19 shutdown, the Mens Division Pairs and Fours events were not held last season.... All clubs had entered teams in the fours and more than half had already completed club Pairs. At its recent meeting the Competition Committee decided that the events can now be run. Hence, the Division Pairs has been set to play at Maffra on Saturday 18 July and the Fours has been set for Sale on Sunday 19 July. I will send out the draw for each of these events shortly. Could clubs who have not sent me their Pairs winners please do so as soon as they can (initial draw will show entries already received). A car has recently been... stolen in town and has been used to try to do other burglaries over the weekend. A white 4wd prado Toyota was stolen from Rosedale Friday night. 08.01.2022 *****Update from Bowls Victoria ***** Dear all Bowls Victoria Clubs & Members, Following the Victorian State Governments announcement (Sunday May 24) of planne...d lifting of COVID-19 restrictions entering Stage 2, Bowls Victoria lists the measures which must be adhered to for Stage 2 from Sunday May 31 at 11:59pm through to June 22 (pending further announcements from the State Government). As mentioned previously, the sole priority at this point in time is safe social opportunities to play Bowls. We want Bowlers to stay socially connected with others in small groups, practicing the sport that we all enjoy. From tomorrow your club is permitted have outdoor gatherings increased to 20 people however, social distancing must apply (1.5m apart), on-green activity remains at 10 people per green based on advice from May 13. In addition to the Stage 1 Restrictions previously communicated, the following will also apply from Sunday May 31 at 11:59pm: Maximum of 20 people permitted per green (maintaining a maximum of 4 people per rink). Spectators not permitted at the Club. Club rooms open for toilet use and meetings can take place at the club, indoors, for up to 20 people (social distancing still required). Club social bowls is permitted for less than 20 people. No club vs club competition should be taking place at this time. As a reminder, general hygiene practices include: Clean hands by having hand sanitizer readily available at the club, Refrain from shaking hands and high-fiving others. All mats & jacks should be thoroughly cleaned before being used. Wash your hands before and after play. Refrain from handling other peoples bowls. Do not attend the club if you are feeling unwell.

06.01.2022 KOALA CRASHES BAREFOOT BOWLS FINAL A Victorian sports club has welcomed a fluffy new member to its barefoot bowls team. On Tuesday the Apollo Bay Bowls Club was... holding its grand final night for the barefoot bowls competition when a koala wandered across the bowling green. Halfway through the game, a koala wandered up through the gate and got a little bit frightened because people were taking photos. Out he comes and walks straight across the green while everyone was bowling, club secretary Bernie Hall told 10 News First Melbourne. He wasn’t very happy because he wasn’t allowed to bowl. After a few minutes hanging out on the green, the koala was pulled to safety.

05.01.2022 For those who may have been interested in attending the Maffra Monthly Triples this month, please note that Maffra have made the decision to cancel the event due to COVID restrictions. They do plan to hold the next one on December the 3rd. Also note that they will publish a firm decision about whether the scheduled Presidents Day advertised for the 13th of November will go ahead, pending government announcements later this week.
