09.01.2022 Lately I've seen an ad been posted on FB with a guy selling code readers and trying to convince us that taking your car to a mechanic shop when your engine light comes on is an absolute waste of money when all you need is this cheap little scan tool to turn the light off and the problem is fixed.....My response to that is the same as having a oil leak- washing the oil away with degreaser will appear the leak is gone until the oil leaks out and becomes visible again. The only ...way to stop the oil coming out is to replace the gasket etc..... The same applies for the engine light coming on- the computer has detected a problem and logged a fault code, plugging in a scan tool no matter how cheap or expensive the scanner may be will not fix the actual problem and the engine light will keep coming on until its fixed...... By the way Ive never heard of an engine light coming on if you leave the fuel cap offwell not in Australia anyway See more
