23.01.2022 Christmas is often a time to celebrate and indulge! Unfortunately, it can also present a few opportunities for your furry friends to eat something they shouldn't. We have put together a list of things to be aware of over the festive season. Chocolate - keep wrapped chocolate presents up high and out of reach Onions, garlic, leeks Christmas puddings and mince pies... Xylitol (artificial sweetener) Alcohol Cooked bones - be careful of how you dispose of your lunch leftovers! Fat trimmings Christmas decorations - small baubles, tinsel, fairy lights Batteries Salt dough ornaments Lilies - be aware of gifted flowers If your pet eats something and you are unsure, the best thing that you can do is to contact your local vet or emergency centre for advice. 22.01.2022 Give us a call to organise your pet's desexing procedure! In most cases this is a day procedure and your pet will be able to go home by the afternoon or evening. We desex most pets around 6 months of age New laws require pets born after the 1st of July 2018 to be desexed before 6 months old. ... Veterinarian's are able to make exemptions based on medical reasons, if you have any concerns make an appointment with your Veterinarian to discuss Why do we recommend desexing?? Females: Prevents unwanted pregnancies Prevents your pet from coming into season Decreases the chance of mammary, uterine, and cervical tumors or disease Males: Reduces wandering and territorial behaviour Reduces potential aggression Reduces the risk of prostatic disease, perianal tumors, and eliminates the risk of testicular cancers For more information: http://dogandcatboard.com.au/desexing--3 https://www.roseparkvet.com.au/services/desexing/

21.01.2022 Let's talk about fleas! When the weather warms up we start to see fleas become more active. Fleas are a small parasite found on the skin of dogs and cats. When fleas bite, they inject their saliva which can cause discomfort, itching, skin lesions and hair loss. In large quantities they can cause anaemia. You can only see the adult fleas with your naked eye, so it is important to treat the entire life cycle.... How would I know if my pet has fleas? You might notice that your pet seems irritated and itchy. You might be able to see or feel small specs of 'dirt' - this is a digested blood meal from the flea How do you get them under control? - Use a regular flea treatment and prevention, speak with your vet about the best type for your pet. - Spot on and oral treatments are most effective, flea powders/ collars/ shampoos can help but won't treat the whole population - Vacuum floors regularly, wash bedding in hot water, treat kennels and floors with a professional product - Treat all pets in the household for a minimum of 6 months (this is the length of the flea life cycle) or ideally use a year-round preventative. 13.01.2022 If you're planning a holiday with or without your pets, make sure to keep these tips in mind before travelling to ensure you all have a great time Ensure your pets are up to date with their annual vaccines as well as prevention against intestinal parasites, heartworm, fleas and ticks. Particularly if you're heading to the Eastern states where the paralysis tick is prevalent ... Feed and exercise your pets no sooner than 2 hours before a car trip to minimise nausea. Don't forget to schedule toilet stops along the way! If your pet suffers from severe nausea or anxiety during car trips, make sure to see your vet for advice Keep your pets safety restrained during the trip with a secured car harness or cat carrier Do you you have enough food, medication, and parasite prevention plus several weeks extra for 'just in case'! Ensure your contact details are up to date on your pet's microchip registration Research the local 24 hour emergency vets in the area in case of emergency And finally, enjoy your holidays and enjoy the extra time you can spend with your 4-legged and 2-legged friends!

08.01.2022 Congratulations to our Lexi and Ali’s latest Puppy Preschool graduates

08.01.2022 During the 6 day lockdown in South Australia, it has been advised that people will NOT be able to leave the house to walk their dogs, https://www.covid-19.sa.gov.au/restrictions-a/stay-at-home We've put together a list of some alternative things you can do with your dogs at home instead of your daily walks. Raid your recycling and what you have at home, use anything that would be safe as a toy under supervision ... Cardboard boxes and plastic bottles- cut a small hole and hide some treats in them and let your dog do the rest - make sure they don't eat anything but the treats! Hide some food in a rolled up blanket or towel Do some training! Teach your dog a new trick, or reinforce their skills with some backyard training Grooming session Freeze some food or treats in some water for a cooling puzzle on a hot day Turn your backyard into an obstacle course Organise a treasure hunt with toys or treats around the house or backyard Think about your dog's breed and what they were originally bred for, this might give you a clue into what sort of activities they might enjoy around the house. For example - Labrador's are bred to retrieve, so your Lab might enjoy a game of fetch! See more
