20.01.2022 Hi folks....probably time to pull out those winter rugs,check them over and send them to me for repairs. I will be at Mt Marshall Show next Sat 14th (on the show jumping gate!) and can collect and deliver repairs. Meanwhile a little more rain would be nice to keep the tinge of green going.

19.01.2022 Will be at Eastern Wheatbelt Riding Club Dust and Diamonds Dressage this Sunday and can pick up rugs etc for repair. Can return them to following Dressage days.

19.01.2022 Getting closer to Keller show day....massive amount of sideshow rides (including the ice skating rink) for after the horse activities..plus the spit roast, music and fireworks into the evening.

19.01.2022 Some info about the Hacking section at the Keller Ag Show. This is unofficial (no registration, height certificates, or plaiting necessary), so is a great opportunity to have a go, become familiar with what hacking involves, get your horse out and about and improve your skills.

18.01.2022 Useful reminder about removing hair from saddle pads......this video is about sheep SKIN lined saddle pads. Most of us probably have the sheep wool fabric lined ones (wool woven into a fabric backing) that can be wool washed in the washing machine but it is still a good idea to comb/brush the hair out regularly as it can work through the fabric over time and make lumpy balls. I do have this wool fleece fabric (made in Oz) on hand and can line existing saddle pads for $55. Als...o note how the pad in the film has the tabs that fit to the girth straps fitted right at the front of the pad.....unlike so many of the purchased pads which for some strange reason fit them further back...where they are a pressure point under the saddle (duh!) . Easy enough to totally remove them ...including stitching, and re-attach them at the front of the pad. Cheers Rose. See more

09.01.2022 PRE-COOLING WORKS. It’s forecast 41oC today. At 7am it is already 26oC. Recently I’ve mentioned pre-cooling to a couple of clients and been met with blank look...s. Pre-cooling is not some fancy technique reserved for elite level horses performing at big competitions. Pre-cooling is simply wetting or hosing your horse before you ride and benefits every horse and rider wanting to keep active over summer. Once you have groomed and saddled up as usual, lead your horse to the wash bay and use the hose to lightly spray along the neck, belly, rump and legs (avoiding your tack). Then proceed to the mounting block and enjoy your ride. The water will evaporate off your horse drawing body heat away, so your horse starts the session cooler, and doesn’t begin sweating (and dehydrating) until further into your ride. If you are doing more than just a short light ride, you can use water bottles to pour more cold water over your horse’s neck and rump whilst mounted, part way though your ride. You are also allowed to compete with your horse wetted. Pre-cooling is not a replacement for cooling-down, it is an additional preventative measure to ensure the comfort of your horse. Any activity in the sun will make your horse hot, remember they have a large body mass so if you feel hot, your horse feels hotter. Even if you’ve just been for a walk along a trail, or lunged your horse they will still need cooling-down properly afterwards. *Do pre-cool. *Do know your horses usual body temperature. *Do cool-down thoroughly afterwards. *Do ride in the early morning or later evening. *Do ride in shade. *Avoid getting your tack or seat of your jodphurs wet! *Don’t put ice on your horse before riding ice is for afterwards. *Do remember skin temperature is different to core temperature. *Don’t scrape water off do leave it to evaporate. *Do check out Dr David Marlins website for further info on cooling legs, and hot horses. *Do click through to the blog to see images and temperatures of Fletch before and after pre-cooling this morning. https://www.abphysio4horseandrider.com/po/pre-cooling-works 2min read. #equinephysio #horsephysio #cool #heatwave

06.01.2022 This may be interesting to some of you..I went into the Funky shop (prop, Lucy Stone) in the main street of Kellerberrin today (on GE Hwy) , and among all the wonderful costumes they have some really good quality new and near new Western and In Hand outfits..at ridiculously cheap prices. Worth a look if you are into outfits.
