23.01.2022 Roseville Park. Explaining our contract ram breeding concept that we incorporated into our client services in 2017.

22.01.2022 Hamilton Sheepvention multi vendor Ram Sale results from today. We sold 8/8 to a top of $5,500 for lot 54 to average $4375. The overall sale had a top price of $15,500 for a Langdene ram (lot 43) and a sale average of $3913 with 52 rams sold out of 63 for an 83% clearance. Two things stood out from the sale that buyers were chasing- high Fleece weights first, Poll Rams second and everything else third

20.01.2022 Heres some more on farm research that Ive done along with our sheep classer Stuart Murdoch on the benefits of visual professional sheep classing in flock sheep and the genetic and economic gains that can be made without spending a fortune by commercial growers on measurement. All you have to do is leave all of the hard work and measurement costs up to us when we breed our rams. Keep it simple- Heres How.

18.01.2022 I classed these 68kg one year old ewe lambs today for a long term client, Kelso Grazing near Forbes NSW, This flock marked 135% lambs last week. Producing an average fleece weight 7.8 kg 18.5 micron. Normally we class out 12%, but due to continuous high lambing rates we classed out 40% of this drop which will be shorn and sold for $330 NSM to the same buyer who buys these surplus ewes annually. The 2016 drop ewes will be shorn after weaning and have also been pre sold to another buyer who buys annually for $250. No need to sell on Auctions Plus. You will only see the results here. Body weight, fertility, fleece weight, financial freedom!! Not just selling one trait=balanced breeding and good management.

15.01.2022 With over 1300 artificially inseminated (AI) ewes lambing over a very short period of time and a 4 day window until back up natural mate lambs arrive. This is a simple way to ID the AI lambs with a long pipe with a piece of cloth over the end and a bit of blue branding fluid which disappears in two months as the lamb grows up. An invention picked up while working as a jackaroo at Haddon Rig nearly 30 years ago and a system we have used here on AI born lambs for just as long.

14.01.2022 Weaning our Optimus Prime family Poll Merino lambs this week born mid-May through to the end of June. Averaged 38.5kg with a top weight of 53kg. Thats 473 grams/ day for 112 days on the top weight. At an average age of 98 days age for the drop and an average body weight of 38.5 kg thats an average daily weight gain of 393 grams per day.

14.01.2022 Hamilton Sheepvention Auctions plus online Ram sale August 4th 11.00am Sydney time. Lot 51 RP18-0154. Sire Alfoxton 15-430. Body weight 140.5 KG Micron- 16.0. 14.01.2022 We find that lambing on the top dressed native paddocks in small mobs and low stocking rates we get a higher lamb survival rate due to better shelter and a salad bowl of feed for the ewes to select from. All we do is put out salt, lime and causmag put in a lick and dont go near them during lambing. The ewes and lambs only go onto crop after marking. The difference in a mob of AI ewes is 7-10 ewes lambed and lost in a mob of300 ewes on the native country and 30-40 ewes lambed and lost on a mono culture of crop.

12.01.2022 Drone technology pasture mapping with the assistance of our on farm research with Sydney Uni on the two paddocks where we have been running 1,000 rams at 50 DSE/ ha. We noted that after 10 ml of rain in one week the oat crop actually increased in feed quality even at that stocking rate.

11.01.2022 For the last twelve months we have been carrying out on farm research of remote monitoring and prediction tools. This is one of three Walk Over Weighing systems recording real time data in the paddock removing the need to handle sheep in the yards. These 12 month old ram lambs have been running at 40-50 DSE for most of their lives, either in confinement or now on crop. This group of 583 ram lambs average 81 kg. In paddock and scientific data analysis is undertaken by the University of Sydney PhD student and Elders Wool and Livestock Production Advisor Greg Sawyer. #helpingotherfarmers #innovativefarmingsystems #mla #sydneyuniversity
