25.01.2022 MISBEHAVIOUR Coming 26th November "Smart, Sassy, Intelligent and Thought-provoking. An Outstanding Film" Radio Times In 1970, the Miss World competition took place in London, hosted by US comedy legend, Bob Hope. At the time, Miss World was the most-watched TV show on the planet with over 100 million viewers. Claiming that beauty competitions demeaned women, the newly formed Women’s Liberation Movement achieved overnight fame by invading the stage and disrupting the live broadcast of the competition. Not only that, when the show resumed, the result caused uproar: the winner was not the Swedish favourite but Miss Grenada, the first black woman to be crowned Miss World. In a matter of hours, a global audience had witnessed the patriarchy driven from the stage and the Western ideal of beauty turned on its head.

25.01.2022 The legend that was Slim Dusty was living in the neighbouring suburb of St Ives before he died. He was the first Australian to have an international record hit (Pub with No Beer) and was even the first artist broadcast from space! Astronauts played his recording of Waltzing Matilda from Space Shuttle Columbia as it passed over Australia ... He married Joy McKean, a singer and songwriter, who became his lifelong partner both in music and in personal life. She remained his man...ager for over five decades and penned down many of his hit songs including Indian Pacific, The Biggest Disappointment, The Angel of Goulburn Hill, Kellys Offsider and Walk A Country Mile. For over 50 years, the country music legend and his wife, Joy McKean trail-blazed their way across Australia, creating a musical legacy that to this day continues to entertain and inspire. Theirs is perhaps one of the greatest partnerships in Australian music history. SLIM & I is a feature documentary that tells the incredible story of that partnership and of the brilliant woman who lived beside, rather than behind, the legend - Australias own "Queen of Country Music", Joy McKean. Showing from THIS THURSDAY Tickets: www.rosevillecinemas.com.au

04.01.2022 DID YOU KNOW? Roseville Cinemas has long been a fixture of the North Shore community. The building was originally erected in the early 1900s by Kuring-Gai council to serve as the Town Hall for the area. When World War I broke out, the first Australian recruitment drive for soldiers was held in the building. In 1919 after the war, it was renamed Traynors Picture Palace, and thus began the journey to becoming the cinema we know and love. In 1936 DB OConnor, (a pioneer of Aus...tralian film production), renovated it in beautiful Art Deco style. In the early 70s ownership passed on to Hans van Pinxteren and his family, who have been running it for two generations to the present day. The building is one of the few surviving independent cinemas in Sydneys suburbs, resisting the encroachment of multiplexes by dedication to showing a range of top-quality local and foreign films, and continues to be an important part of the community. #supportlocalbusiness

It’s an important film about the real issues facing farmers today, in France, in Australia, everywhere.
