19.01.2022 Recently, when doing some creative research for a job, I came across something that I just had to share! These crayon carvings by Diem Chau, a Vietnamese born artist living in the US, just have to be seen to be believed. She has carved the whole alphabet out of regular size crayons with accompanying creatures to create a set of 52 miniature sculptures. The detail and precision in these are amazing! And if that wasn’t enough she’s also carved sculptures out of the lead of pencils! See http://tinyhaus.blogspot.com.au/2013/04/ for the pencils and http://tinyhaus.blogspot.com.au/2013/08/ for the crayons.

05.01.2022 Grammar is essential to get right- especially in your business communications. Miss out or improperly use a simple piece of punctuation and the entire meaning of your piece can be compromised. Check out these sets of sentences- in each image both sentences are correct, however the top example is not the desired meaning as it is missing its comma remember a comma indicates a pause in the flow of a sentence...

02.01.2022 Annual Reports have the tendency to be so, well, annual. It feels like barely a year has passed and the next one is creeping up on you. Thankfully this proves not to be an issue as I cherish the challenge of creating a new design each year for my clients’ annual reports. This desire to develop each report as a unique and individual creative work has seen The Alkira Centre return to me to design their report every year since 2004. Some years the design is led by a graphic sty...le, others a theme that threads its way through the stories is translated into the visual creative. This year I decided to make the values, beliefs, intentions and desires of the Alkira community the focus of the design. I did this by using words that capture who Alkira are and what they do; words such as ‘community’, ‘individual’, ‘valued’, ‘opportunities’ and ‘teamwork’. It was such a simple concept and a very pared back design, but letting the words and photos tell a story has allowed for a beautiful record of the year gone by at Alkira. See more

02.01.2022 With the season of advent once again upon us, Junior Designer 1 (age 5) and Junior Designer 2 (age 2) have started their design careers with a 2017 advent calendar each. Tasked with ‘do whatever you want but please don’t glue it to the table oh too late’ they set about decorating their paper trees with sparkly tape, stars and pom poms. I’m sure you’ll agree that they have done a wonderful job and will soon be running the show over here at Ross MacKay Creative & Son & Daughter.
