23.01.2022 SHOUT OUT! A big SHOUT OUT to Eliza Purton Home in Ulverstone for donating 16 electric beds for overseas aid and to CRE Solutions in Wivenhoe for arranging free freight to Footscray Donations in Kind Depot. The beds were picked up this afternoon by Rotarians from Burnie and Somerset clubs and transported from Ulverstone to Wivenhoe. A big thank you to the guys that helped out at short notice.

22.01.2022 Rotary Youth Leadership Awardee Jeremy Negelendran, pictured (on the left) with his support team, gave us a rundown on his perception of this years RYLA. Prior to the event Jeremy was sceptical and had low expectations despite the glowing reports that some previous participants had related to him. The reality was entirely the opposite, the combination of the workshops and motivational activities soon had him Out of his comfort zone. He found himself doing rock climbing, singing, self-defence, leadership, public speaking and numerous other tasks he would normally shy away from. He is normally shy, but from this new personal inner growth, he found he could open up emotionally to strangers and reach out for help where he was reluctant to do so before, resulting in a bunch of new friends that he feels will be friends for life.

15.01.2022 Hat Day went off well at Burnie Rotary last night. Hat Day is designed to raise money for mental health research, a focus of Australian Rotary Health since 2000. The overall winner was David Bennett, second from left, who used old fly fishing lures that had failed to excite fish for decades.

02.01.2022 Our PP Allan has frequent contact with Rotarians of the Philadelphia Rotary Club. Today, Allan received an email from two of these Rotarians, Past President Joe Batory and his wife Past District Governor Joan. The email reported: Last Wednesday, the annual World Polio Day was held right here in Philadelphia at the College of Physicians, the oldest medical institution in the USA. Joan and I were privileged to attend. There were many world class speakers and the 60 minute update was live streamed in eight languages around the world. Very impressive!!!! You can probably find the film of the entire event at https://www.endpolio.org/world-polio-day

02.01.2022 Last Meeting: Bowls Night Last Monday we had our Annual Bowls competition at the Burnie Bowls Club with teams from Burnie, Somerset, Smithton and Wynyard Rotary Clubs vying for the Bob Harris Trophy. It was a keenly contested event with David Bennetts team which included Ricky Charles, Chris Campbell and Brett Smedley coming out on top to snatch the trophy. The Inner Wheel ladies catered for the 60 strong field with delicious main courses and desserts to die for which has been described by some guests as magnificent. Thank you very much Ladies from all at the event. The pictures below tell their own story of disputes, happy competitors, the winning team and the wonderful ladies from the Inner Wheel that catered so wonderfully for the function.
