21.01.2022 Rotary is Service Above Self!

21.01.2022 Heres why the Rotary year begins on July 1st!

21.01.2022 The Rotary Club of Colac held its 85th annual Changeover Dinner at the Colac RSL on Tuesday night with outgoing President Michael Harrison handing over the Pre...sidency to Veronica Levay. A full house of over 50 people attended including Mr Richard Reardon MP MLA for Polwarth, the Mayor of Colac Otway Shire Cr Jason Schram, Deputy Mayor Cr. Joe McCracken as well as representatives from a number of other Rotary Clubs, local business and community groups. A highlight of the evening was a special presentation to Past President and Paul Harris Fellow Lindsay Hulm. Lindsay recently became the longest serving member in our Clubs history, clocking up an incredible 48 years of membership and the club wanted to recognise Lindsays outstanding achievements, so the Board decided to award him the title PRESIDENT EMERITUS in recognition of his nearly half century of service to our Club and this community. LIndsay was also presented with a framed extract from Hansard from the Member for Polwarth Richard Riordan MP, who recently made a members statement in Parliament recognising Lindsays achievement. The Club also honoured two other members on the night, awarding Paul Harris Fellows to Mr Barry Riches and Mr Terry Laughnane. Paul Harris was the founder of the International Rotary movement and this award is the highest individual honour that the Rotary presents. We wish to congratulate both Barry and Terry on this wonderful achievement. In his handover speech, Michael Harrison recognised the great work the Club had achieved in the past year. In particular he was delighted to report on the success of the Sunday Community Market, and the Otway Trail Run. Both events raise much needed funds which enables the Club to continue its wonderful work in our community spanning over 85 years. Mr Harrison was also enthused by a significant resurgence in membership this year, taking the Club to its best membership levels in over a decade. Incoming President Veronica introduced the Rotary International theme for the next year. Each year the Rotary International President sets the theme and this year "Rotary Connects the World" has been chosen. Veronica commended the Club on our ongoing commitment to connect, support and contribute to the Colac community through its fund-raising activities. This incudes us working toward making a significant contribution to Colac in the not too distant future. (Stay tuned) The Rotary Club of Colac meet at the Colac RSL at 6.30pm every Tuesday and welcomes visitors who want to know more about the Rotary organisation. See more
