25.01.2022 Coonabarabran Rotary Club attended the North West Equestrian Expo to provide a food outlet for the many participants and their supporters. This event is a huge undertaking for all involved including the members of our club. Many spending 12 hours or so to ensure the smooth running and plentiful supply of food and hot and cold drinks to those present. A huge Thankyou to members of Rotary Club of West Pennant Hills and Cherrybrook who travelled up to give valuable assistance to our club members and experience what a true country horse event is all about. During a brief spell some of the Rotary crew had the opportunity to inspect and hold the official Melbourne Cup which was making the rounds of the event.

23.01.2022 The Rotary Club of Coonabarabran held our Christmas party at the residence of Rotarians Peter and Julie Shinton. The start of the party was heralded by a wild lightning and rain storm. Several of our guests were our volunteers who keep our Rotary Bookshop ticking over every week for which we are all extremely grateful. A great time was had by all and we enjoyed a beautiful spread of food supplied by Julie. Next week will be our last meeting for the year and we will be treated to a curry night prepared by Rotarian Russ.

20.01.2022 Coonabarabran Rotary Club has always been a proud supporter of local services. One such service is the Coonabarabran Volunteer Rescue Squad. We have a close relationship with all the VRA members as we feel they follow one of Rotarys most important mottos of ‘Service above self’. Tonight the VRA and Rotary members enjoyed our annual pre Christmas bar b q. Members were also able to inspect the newest addition to the Coonabarabran VRA fleet. The truck is equipped with the latest rescue equipment and is a huge boost for rescue services within the area. This last weekend VRA members were called to assist with a search and rescue of a 70 year old and 9 year old male who had become lost in the Warrumbungle National Park.

14.01.2022 Are you aware of what your local Rotary Club do? It’s not just about bar b q’s or our local bookshop. The Rotary Club of Coonabarabran have in recent times rejuvenated the original well in Neilson Park, provided exercise equipment in the walk along the river and ensured that our early heritage and indigenous story are there for everyone to see. But that’s only a small amount of things Rotary has done and is doing within the community. Rotary are always looking for new rotarians too so have a chat with one of your local members. We would love to have you onboard.

14.01.2022 MHERV is coming to Coonabarabran 6th and 7th of May! MHERV - ‘Men’s Health Education Rotary Van’ is a purpose-built caravan with two consulting rooms which since 2017 has toured through well over 100 centres in NSW, many of them more than once. It has a full time Registered Nurse who conducts health tests among rural men. MHERV is out and about in rural New South Wales to save lives. That sounds a bit dramatic perhaps, but plenty of rural men just drop dead in the paddock, be...cause nobody saw it coming. Many men in rural and regional Australia haven’t had a check-up with their doctor for years. So far, over 700 lives have been saved. Mostly, these were men whose blood pressure was dangerously high, threatening an unexpected heart attack. Rotary’s MHERV project offers a free, ten minute, non-invasive group of tests. Blood pressure just to check the heart isn’t too stressed. Blood sugar levels, to make sure there’s no type two diabetes - which is manageable if there is. Cholesterol, to see if levels are high and need attention. Blood sugar and Cholesterol are tested with a single needle prick to the finger. High levels of any of these have virtually no symptoms and can kill. A health check with MHERV is completely free. It is a community service provided by Rotary and our sponsors, particularly the Royal Freemasons’ Benevolent Institution and the Rotary Clubs of New South Wales.

13.01.2022 Last night Coonabarabran Rotary Club invested two new members into our club. Husband and wife Peter and Julie Shinton joined the ranks of our club. Both Peter and Julie bring a wealth of knowledge to our club including small businesses and local government as well as many years of service to the shire and local community. Julie and Peter were presented with their investiture package by President Elect Laurie Dawson OAM.

10.01.2022 Back in 2017 Coonabarabran Rotary hosted an exchange student from Denmark. Katrine Stefania Sandager spent time with Rotarian Marie Knight and her family. During a storm on their property a tree was blown over which contained an Eastern Rosellas nest and Marie and Katrine were able to rescue a baby from the debri. Katrine then raised this small bird and he was named Brian. The bird was eventually released back into the wild but continues to visit Marie’s house. A recent discovery revealed that Brian is actually a Briana and she has returned to the Knights homestead to show off her ‘children’ to Marie and the family.

06.01.2022 In line with recent COVID-19 restrictions our Rotary Book Shop have introduced the requirement to wear a face mask when entering and on the premises. We Thankyou for your understanding.

05.01.2022 Our guest speakers at last nights Rotary meeting were Narelle Pfeiffer, the chaplain at the Coonabarabran High School, and two students Amelia Hadfield and Jordan Dicks. Narelle gave a personal profile, outlining the number of places she has worked, and also explained the work of Teen Ranch where she takes a bus-load of students each year. Amelia and Jordan showed great enthusiasm for the program of activities there, and a short video presentation gave us a good idea of the fun and challenges that are offered. Both girls also spoke about the impact meeting many participants who were foster children has had on them. They both stated how much having a loving stable family life and home means and makes them realise how lucky they are. Last year Coonababran Rotary Club sponsored one student to attend Teen Ranch.

02.01.2022 Another successful drought get together.

01.01.2022 Aileen Bell. And we did it again!!! On Friday 19th Coonabarabran Rotary toddled out to the Belar Creek Hall to BBQ for the multitude. Our Rotary friends from West Pennant Hills Cherrybrook joined us .. got to meet the locals and handed out family Hamper Packs that they had had donated .. the gathered people loved the packs that included Christmas cake, shampoo and personal and household items like boring dishwashing detergent.. the bbq fired up and the Belar Fire Brigade helped out too with some of the drinks .. And we did it all again on Saturday with Bugaldie people. Giving a simple BBQ that appeals to so many is rewarding. Thank you Rotary Clubs .. people at both venues certainly appreciated the gesture/s. Farewell our "sister club friends .. your generosity of time and gifts are loved and appreciated.
