25.01.2022 A busy weekend for Sandy Bay rotarians and friends. We ran another successful BBQ at Bunnings, despite the inclement weather. Thank you Bunnings for the opportunities, and thank you everyone who supported our Club by buying sausages. We also volunteered at Hobart City Mission to help sort through donated clothes for their Op Shop. We love helping our friends at HCM. Great service everyone, as well as great fun! #RotaryInAction #hobartcitymission #supportingourcommunity... #TogetherWeServe See more

25.01.2022 CELEBRATING MENTAL HEALTH WEEK 2020 Sandy Bay Rotarians, Rotaractors and friends were out on the streets this weekend 'rattling the cans' to raise money for research into mental health as part of Australian Rotary Health's 'Lift the Lid' campaign. With funny hats to attract attention to the cause we raised a significant amount, so thank you to all who donated so generously. #RotaryInAction #mentalhealthawarenessweek #LiftTheLid

24.01.2022 A fantastic day today supporting the annual Royal Hobart Hospital Research Foundation's "The EDGE! Abseil" event at Wrest Point. We added to our BBQ expertise with cakes, biscuits, muffins and quiches and the patrons supported us exceedingly well. Great to share the day with Essie Davis (dressed as a parrot!), Mitch McPherson, Spiderwoman and all the other brave souls who abseiled to raise funds for RHHRF. A fun day was had by all, but most importantly many people will be helped by the funds raised. Thank you for all your support, and we'll see you all again next year! #RotaryInAction #TogetherWeServe #supportingourcommunity

21.01.2022 The Rotary Club of Sandy Bay wishes everyone a happy isolated Easter.

20.01.2022 CELEBRATING MENTAL HEALTH WEEK 2020 Many Sandy Bay rotarians attended the Shine a Light on Mental Health breakfast event this week run by Rotary Tasmania Community Care and West Moonah Community House to celebrate Mental Health Week 2020. An inspirational talk by Darran Petty was the highlight of the morning. His very personal journey from a traumatic childhood to now being a inspirational mentor to many was a privilege to listen to. He was such an authentic and engaging ...guest speaker who touched the hearts of many in the audience. Thank you so much Darran. Thank you to our wonderful sponsors Scanlon Richardson Financial Group, PromptCare, Mental Health Council of Tasmania, and Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania, and our fabulous MC John X. Thank you also to those who provided Silent Auction items and to everyone who attended to help raise funds for much-needed mental initiatives. Your support is so very much appreciated. #RotaryInAction #TogetherWeConnect #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek

20.01.2022 Sandy Bay Rotarians have been helping to unpack and hang clothes for Hobart City Mission in readiness for the grand opening of HCM's new Op Shop in Moonah this Saturday. It's at 15 Main Road in the former Pauls Warehouse just next door to the existing HCM Op Shop. We are also running a BBQ on the day, so come along, buy a sausage and and check it all out! #RotaryInAction #TogetherWeTransform #TogetherWeHangClothes #communitypartnerships

18.01.2022 We celebrated our official Changeover last night with a wonderful evening at the RYCT. Congratulations to our new Paul Harris Fellows, President Wendy Rowe, IPDG Ross Carlyle, DGN and PP Bob Calvert, PP Ian Johnson, IPP Graham Standen and his wife Chris. Congratulations also to all the winners of our Club awards.

17.01.2022 Our Club has initiated the installation of life-saving rings along the boardwalk at Long Beach in Lower Sandy Bay in partnership with the Hobart City Council. This is PP Bob Calvert and Seaton Lewis of Lewis Marine inspecting the items prior to branding and installation. #rotaryinaction #togetherwesavelives #togetherwesupportourcommunity #thankavolunteer

16.01.2022 Another SkyHydrant funded by our Club through Disaster Aid Australia has been successfully installed in Bhutan at the Orong Central School. SkyHydrants provide an effective barrier to infection from all water-born bacteria for a very low cost. One installation treats 10,000 litres of water per day, and can deliver enough drinking water for a village of 700, or a school of 1,000 pupils. We have donated 5 in total so far, 2 in conjunction with the Rotaract Club of Sandy Bay. I...t gladdens our hearts to hear these words from the people in Bhutan: Thank you so much for your generous support! This SkyHydrant is going to make a lot of difference in the school and the community! #rotaryinaction #togetherwesavelives #disasteraidaustralia #thankavolunteer See more

16.01.2022 2020 - the year of Covid19, the year the world was turned upside down. It has however drawn Australia together as one again, a nation that has united together through uncertain times. And while there is economic disruption and a lot of us are forced to stay at home, our freedoms subdued for a small period, in true perspective our sacrifices are small. It is truly a time to reflect.... Generations previous were asked to sacrifice much more. To leave their families, to sail to far away lands and to fight for the country, knowing full well many would never return. Families were torn apart forever. Many gave the ultimate sacrifice, one that gets lost in normal everyday life of many today. If there is a 'good' from 2020, it is that we can all take a little extra time to truly understand how the men and women from days gone by gave us the freedoms of today. Take the time to reflect, take the time to think, and say a prayer or raise a glass to those that fought for our nation. Australia. Here's a small contribution from the Rotary Club of Sandy Bay. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. Lest we forget.

13.01.2022 Recognition in The Mercury today that we are supporting the community through our partnerships with Loaves and Fishes and Taroona High School. On Monday we helped pick up and deliver unprocessed bacon, potatoes and apples to Taroona High School's canteen, and on Tuesday we collected Shepherd's Pie, potato bake, apple crumble and soup for distribution to families in need. #rotaryinaction #togetherwehelpothers #togetherweformcommunitypartnerships

12.01.2022 What a fun way to fundraise! Many Rotarians and friends attended the very enjoyable RYCT Melbourne Cup luncheon today, with funds raised by the raffle and sweepstakes being donated to Rotary Tasmania Community Care which work to improve the mental health of Tasmanians. As a bonus, Sandy Bay Rotarians did well in the 'fashions in the field' - Garry Southwell won the men's fashion on the fields and Louise and Peter Flett won the best fashion for a couple. Sandy Bay Rotarians sc...rub up well when they need to!! Thank you Marion Cooper for all your organisation, and thank you RYCT for putting on such an enjoyable day. #RotaryInAction #CommunityPartnerships #TogetherWeHaveFun #RotaryTasmaniaCommunityCare #TogetherWeCare See more

11.01.2022 What a fun day supporting Hobart City Mission’s ‘DIY Dads’ program today by planting up their vegetable patch. We designed the planting guide, and donated the plants and man-power. A huge thank you to Ruth Dinning for her knowledgeable input into the design, to Chandlers Nursery who so generously donated many of the plants to us, and to DecorEarth, Glenorchy, who gave us an excellent price on the vege mix compost and delivery. And of course a big thank you to the dads and chi...ldren in the program who helped us with planting, and cooked us a delicious BBQ lunch afterwards. It is so rewarding to work in partnership with others to support our community needs. Thank you Hobart City Mission for the opportunity. #RotaryinAction #supportingourcommunity #togetherweserve #togetherwetransform #positivepartnerships #togetherweconnect See more

11.01.2022 Sandy Bay Rotarians Bob Calvert, Wendy Rowe, Michael Stokes and Bill Oakley collecting meals for Loaves and Fishes to distribute to people in need in greater Hobart. These meals have been cooked by Taroona High School as part of a program driven by School Canteen Australia. Cooking food has allowed Taroona High School canteen to continue to employ staff, and the meals are so needed at the moment - a win/win for everyone. We love serving our community and helping others. #rotaryinaction #togetherwehelpothers #togetherweformgreatpartnerships #thankavolunteer

08.01.2022 Inclement weather didn't dampen the spirits of those enjoying the President's Picnic at Puddleduck Vineyard yesterday. President Wendy highlighted her impressive catering skills by producing a delicious array of foods, while Puddleduck provided a picturesque setting for a very enjoyable social afternoon. #TogetherWeConnect #TogetherWeParty

07.01.2022 Our Club is proud to be a supporter of this project. #RotaryInAction

04.01.2022 A 'zoom' Changeover meeting last night saw incoming President Wendy Rowe handed the chain of office from outgoing President Graham Standen. Congratulations President Wendy, and thank you to PP Graham for your great leadership this past year.

04.01.2022 Last night IPDG Michael Cooke presented our Club with the John and Shirley Thorne Perpetual Trophy which we won during his year. This trophy is presented to the Club which has been most active in the Rotary Foundation during the year in our District, and we are proud to say that we have won it 4 out of the last 5 years. #RotaryInAction

03.01.2022 The life-saving rings project at Long Beach is completed! A safety concern raised by a local retired search and rescue police officer prompted the Rotary Club of Sandy Bay to partner with the City of Hobart to organise life saving equipment along the promenade at Long Beach. Two life rings contained in protective holders have been strategically placed along the waters edge of the walkway, which can be accessed by the public should in the unlikely event someone should inadvert...ently fall into the River Derwent. Past President of the Sandy Bay Club, Bob Calvert said it was a privilege to be able to respond to a community concern, find a solution and work closely with the Council. Rotarians are People of Action and in this case the end result is to hopefully save a life in an unforeseen circumstance. #RotaryInAction #supportingourcommunity #TogetherWeServe

03.01.2022 4 members of our Club recently participated in a training session about The SkyHydrant, run by Ted Burton who is Chair of the Tasmanian Disaster Aid Australia Committee. This training will allow us to talk to southern Clubs about the SkyHydrant and it’s benefits. The SkyHydrant water purification unit produces safe drinking water without the need for power or chemicals. It is designed to produce water for 500-1000 people as stand alone unit, or can be configured for larger ...capacity, and can produce up to 1000 litres of clean water per hour from most non-saline and ground water sources. It provides safe drinking water for less than $1 per person per year, and our Club is proud to have donated a number of these to needy communities in Nepal and Bhutan. #RotaryInAction #safedrinkingwater #TogetherWeTransform See more

02.01.2022 The garden at our DIY Dads program had a makeover at the start of October! A big thank you to the Rotary Club of Sandy Bay who volunteered to work on this ...project and the Dads and kids living at DIY Dads who helped out on the day too! Awesome work! DIY Dads is a supported living program providing dads and their children a place to live, grow and learn together.

02.01.2022 A privilege to present at Hobart Rotary Club today. I shared stories to illustrate the impact of early intervention and community capacity building through Men...tal Health First Aid Training I love sharing the insights and passions of the students we have reached so far. Rotary Club seed funding helped the student-led training to flourish at the University of Tasmania back in 2017. The Clubs are an important part of a broad community who care about youth mental health. They've continued to sponsor young Tasmanians to learn and take action on common mental health issues. With the Rotary Club of Sandy Bay, Youngtown, Salamanca and Glenorchy, the Lift the Lid on Mental Illness campaign, and Rotaract, Rotary is a force for change and investment in youth leadership, social entrepreneurship and mental health
