19.01.2022 Our Regatta is coming up in November and here is a great update from one of its founders, Bill Little. As members know the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation has been the principal beneficiary of our Regatta SOLAS Charity Regatta for 22 years. Over time our donations to the Foundation have exceeded $2M. In the years 2016-18, we agreed to fund a three-year Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship for big data research into asthma. We donated $325,000 towards this project which i...ncluded a most generous donation from the estate of the late Trevor and Geraldine Haworth. A number of papers arising out of this project have been published throughout the world the latest of which is now available for your information on the REGATTA website. You will note that our Club is generously acknowledged. I think this has been one of the most valuable projects we have been able to fund for the Foundation over all the years. It is amazing the number of people we talked to who have been impacted by asthma directly or via family. It might not generally be known that Australia has one of the highest incidences of asthma in the world! Currently, our donations continue the research focus through the funding of The Rotary Club of Sydney Cove 2019-2021 PhD Scholarship so named by the Foundation in honour of the 25th anniversary of the Regatta. Dear Bill, Jackie, and Nicola Hope you are well and staying safe. One more feather to the hat. We have just had one more of our asthma research findings ( which we could accomplish because of your generous funding) published yesterday Dispensing Practices of Fixed-Dose Combination Controller Therapy for Asthma in Australian Children and Adolescents" has been published in IJERPH as part of the Special Issue Drug Utilisation Studies in Paediatrics. We remain very grateful for your continued support, all this work would not have been possible otherwise. Warm regards Nusrat Homaira MBBS, MPH,PHD Senior Lecturer and NHMRC Early Career Fellow, Discipline of Paediatrics, UNSW Respiratory Researcher, Sydney Children’s Hospital Visiting Faculty, James P. 16.01.2022 Good Monday to our community! Most of us as Rotarians have found that special something called a "Rotary Moment" many times over. These moments are what inspire us; without them we are not likely to last long in Rotary. These moments provoke our emotions into action and many wonderful projects occur as a result. #buildingcommunity #rotary #peopleofaction #theboatthatrocks @CircularQuayferrywharf
