23.01.2022 Every year the Rotary Club of Northbridge sponsors a Travel and Tourism student from North Metropolitan TAFE to take part in the Adventures in Tourism tour in Kelowna, Canada. This one week conference brings together young people with a keen interest in tourism and allows them to experience the best of Canadian Tourism and Hospitality and learn about how tourism businesses run. In exchange a student from the Okanagen College comes to Perth to do the same thing. This years lu...cky participants were Madison Martin from Perth and Alicia Rattu from Kelowna! We had the honour of hosting these students at our club meeting and they gave us some great presentations on their trips and what they have learned from the experience. Congratulations girls!! 21.01.2022 We are back up and running for 2020 our first guest speaker is Richard Evans Monday the the 20th January Life is a Rich Tapestry Richard Evans is a former Entertainment Lawyer who started his career at Barron Films in Cottesloe. There he worked on a number of TV shows and movies including Sweat, which was Heath Ledgers first role. Moving on from there he co-founded the Greenwich Club under His Majestys. This was an iconic live music venue where bands such as Sleepy Jackson..., Jedediah, Eskimo Joe and Tim Minchin all started their careers. He added the International Players Club, under the Sheraton, and the Indian Summer Two Week Music Festival and Conference to his entertainment portfolio before leaving Perth for the US in the early 2000s. He has lived in NY for the past 15 years with his wife. They are involved in the international art world at a very high level. He recently returned to Perth to care for his ailing father, the Honourable Max Evans, and discovered a treasure trove of his fathers incredible Super 8 movies, which he has been sharing with the world. Richard is working on a documentary of these films. He also co-founded the Cottesloe Film Festival and is thrilled to see how the local community has embraced it. He is working on a similar style live music event in Cottesloe. His most recent venture is the Max Active Squad: Women in Sport Micro Sponsorship Platform which financially assists female athletes to achieve their goals. Richard has set this up to honour his fathers contributions to sport and the community through his setting up of Lottery West, being Chief Commissioner of the Scouts and an Australian Champion Athlete. 07.01.2022 Well we came back with a BANG tonight 25 Northbridge Rotarians who were happy to see each other after 14 weeks of no Monday night meetings. 04.01.2022 Tonight at our weekly meeting The Rotary Club of Northbridge have been lucky enough to hear from Kylie Mawhinney from The Street Chaplains a volunteer organisation that have 100 Street Chaplains who are on the streets of Perth & Northbridge from 11pm to 4am supporting the homeless , night clubbers who have over indulged and people who need someone to talk too. 02.01.2022 Africa certified wild polio-free. The @WHOAFRO region is certified wild polio-free! Now 5 of the 6 WHO regions representing over 90% of the worlds population are free of the wild poliovirus. Learn how @Rotary and others make it happen: https://www.endpolio.org The Northbridge Rotary Club has contributed $35,000 in the past 10 years.... We are very pleased to have played our small part in bringing polio cases down by 99.9%. The campaign to #EndPolio goes on until that figure is certified zero, and Wayne will no doubt make sure that we as a club continue to contribute.
