23.01.2022 On October 20, Sandra, who heads up our youth programmes, introduced us to our RYLA nominee, a very special young woman named Bethany. Bethany, not only is involved in sport in her high school, but also theatre, and working part time in her father’s construction company. In her spare time, she has flown to developing countries, such as Cambodia and Vanuatu, to offer her skill set in constructing an orphanage and homes for the homeless. It is always refreshing to see such outstanding young people.

23.01.2022 We are excited to announce our new permanent breakfast meeting venue is the Robin Yates Centre at Cancer Wellness Support, 105 Railway Parade, Leura. This is a great venue, with beautiful Federation style property and gardens, just down the road from Leura Mall. Although we will still run some ZOOM meetings, mainly we are looking forward to seeing our members and guests face to face. www.bluemountainsrotary.org

22.01.2022 Just a year ago, we did the annual Walk 4Hope, the major fundraiser for Huntington's. We also launched Bob Montgomery and grandson Tom's epic bike ride from Sydney to Melbourne. Well COVID has changed all that for this year. However, to wave the flag and raise some dollars we are having a gentle walk at Wentworth Falls Lake at 11:00am this Sunday. Hope you can join us.

19.01.2022 Happy to have you guys on board last night. Although all the Gnomies teams took the prizes, it was a fun night and raised valuable funds for our homeless project. Next time it will be different.

18.01.2022 This editor, unfortunately, for some months has been unable to maintain the weekly postings for FaceBook as he was in hospital and not able, even through Zoom, to participate in ongoing Rotary activities. He wishes to thank Bill P. who jumped in and added FB to his normally very crowded list of to do’s. He also wishes to thank all of the Club members who graciously cooked meals, made cheery phone chats, and occasionally served as his UBER driver. Further, he wishes to tha...nk the Club secretary Ann, who was always there with a hand or a Tim Tam. At this point allow me to update the most recent Club breakfast speakers. On October 11, Andrew E. continued with the Club tradition of allowing the newest members to present a short bio of themselves. Andrew currently is the GM of a retirement village in Lithgow where incidentally several Club members live. He has had a diverse background starting his career in teaching and education management. His interest in training led him into diverse roles with Private Training Providers and The Commonwealth Government programmes. In 2006 Andrew ran his own successful Real Estate agency on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. During Andrew’s time in real-estate he developed an interest in the retirement sector through assisting many families with the transition of selling their home and relocating into Retirement Villages. After working as an area sales manager for a major builder, Andrew then initiated a full-time role with a retirement village in Sydney’s North West, which has led him to his current responsibility, the GM of Treeview Estates. In Andrew’s spare time he loves spending time on his property out near Mudgee and connecting with his four sons and two grandchildren. It should be noted that Andrew’s four sons all have very successful and very different careers. But it is of note, that son, Chris, is an actor of some note in America and has had a number of significant roles both in TV and in film. In Andrew’s relatively short time with the Club, he has already had a significant role.

12.01.2022 On November 24, President Paul and Wife and Club member Dawn were off on a well deserved holiday. Bill P. was a substitute host for a split second before turning the proceedings over to Club Secretary Ann who ran with the ball. It was member, Jenny’s turn to give the Club a brief bio of her life. Jenny, as it turns out, is a local girl raised in Katoomba. For a career, she chose teaching and completed her education with a Masters and taught in a number of local schools. Eventually, she decided it was time for a sea change and drifted into interior design. She tells us that her passion now is rehabbing houses. Who knows, perhaps one day we might see her and husband Mark on The Block.

07.01.2022 On October 27, President Paul began the meeting with a taped five minute inspirational speech by the new World President, Holger Knaack. Holger, a German national, is a very successful and charismatic visionary, who will lead Rotary to new heights during his tenure. Among other goals, Knaack believes that to build a stronger membership, Rotary must focus on increasing the number of female members and transitioning Rotaractors into Rotarians. Our scheduled speaker for the morning apparently at the last minute was not able to come. However, as the say on Broadway, the show must go on. Our real life troubadour, Pat D. grabbed his always handy Gibson guitar and entertained the early morning crowd with a brief set that would have set Tamworth on fire. And who says there is no talent in The Blue Mountains?

02.01.2022 Our Club has made a longterm commitment to helping the homeless in the Blue Mountains. We have several events planned over the next year or so, with a target over $30,000.
