23.01.2022 What is the Value of Rotary? Over 100 years in Australia, Rotarians have given their talents, time and money doing good in the world. Has it been worth it? How ...about these 10 Thought Starters? Can you add to the list? 1. $45m donated to Australian Rotary Health over 40 years from all Australian Districts helping address indigenous and mental health issues - saving how many lives and enhancing so many futures 2. The first project resuscitating Scouting after WW1 raised 14,000 pounds in 1921 or the equivalent of $1million+ in 2021 3. If every Rotarian in the past 100 years donated the equivalent of $100, that would approximate $300 million. After leveraging fundraising and matching grants, that may be $1billion++ of making a difference 4. If every Rotarian attended 50% of our weekly meetings with breakfast, lunch or dinner, that pumps $500,000 into the local economy every week, every month, every year for 100 years. 5. What is the community and economic value of all the farmers markets, fun runs and festivals sponsored in 1000+ Rotary communities every year? It must be $millions of fundraising plus creating untold enterprise value for many small businesses. 6. Is it true that Rotary raised $10million as part of the Farmers Aid fundraiser during the recent drought? 7. What is the value to young lives and the economic stimulus that flowed from 60 years of Youth Exchange that now involves 8-9000 students every year (pre or post COVID). A program that started in Australia that must be worth $100million+ in economic value each year around the world. 8. If every Rotarian in the past 100 years volunteered just 1 hour per week, cumulatively that sets a benchmark of 200 million hours of community impact. At $25 per hour, that is worth $5 billion over 100 years and counting 9. What was the value of Rotary urgently delivering 1 million face masks to emergency service workers during the recent bushfire season when supplies were exhausted? 10. Governments save $14,000 each year for every homeless person where Rotary helps find permanent accommodation. How many lives and futures have been saved along with huge savings? You tell me, has it been worth it? Can we create 100 examples of how Rotary has made a quantitative impact on society? It's part of our centenary legacy and a platform to add value for the next 100 years.

12.01.2022 Congratulations for being part of history! The Baton Launch is now done and dusted. Our Rotary Centenary is a time to celebrate the past and to create the futur...e. The Rotary Centenary Baton is an important symbol of how we connect today and pass on our legacy to future generations. The online launch of the Rotary Centenary Baton from Government House was a very special event graciously hosted by Their Excellencies The Governor General and Mrs Hurley. Not only did we participate in an important event that makes a mark on history, we were also entertained with 3 world class and famous performers. And you can catch-up with the magnificent event at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdFSoWuKA6U&feature=youtu.be The early bird version has streaming issues that will be cleaned up shortly. But with a soupcon of patience and judicious use of the fast forward button, you can still get excited.
12.01.2022 Yesterday marked one month of the work of T4A - Turbans 4 Australia in Wollongong. Ably supported by Corrimal Rotary Club members and friends, T4A have cooke...d and packaged hot meals at Coniston Community Centre every week day for the past month (approx 2000 meals so far). These are then handed out at Wollongong University at 5pm. The amazing T4A volunteers and student members keep on volunteering their cooking skills and time while juggling around end of term assignments and exams, casual jobs and COVID19 restrictions. Their commitment and dedication to serve other students who are suffering financially is truly outstanding. Wollongong Uni staff have also volunteered their time with set up of the space each day, greeting students and organising sanitation measures. The response has been amazing so far but donations of non perishable food items and money are still needed. If you can help at Coniston Community Centre with your time or are able to contribute non perishable food items or a financial donation, please contact Gerri on 0427002744.

09.01.2022 During Refugee Week, our diversity and inclusion team delivered the SCARF Culture and Diversity in the Classroom workshop to Woonona High School. The feedback w...as amazing! Thank you for having us. "The SCARF team was amazing. The Culture and Diversity in the Classroom program was highly engaging and provided students with an invaluable experience to learn, ask questions safely and broaden their understanding of the complex and nuanced issue of displacement, the global refugee crisis and Australia's governmental policies. The program also equip students with a range of useful ways to take action themselves and be forces for positive cultural change. The students said that they "loved" the experience and that it thoroughly enhanced their study". Michael Harwood, Teacher - Woonona High School
08.01.2022 Rotary’s Centenary is a time of celebration! It Is a time to reflect on our past, and take pride in all that has been achieved. It is a time we play our part ...in the history of Rotary. Our centenary is also the time to lay the foundations for our future, as we still have much to do. The key project in our centenary year will focus on stopping the one in 16 children who die in 9 Pacific nations before the age of five. We invite you to join Rotarians across Australia on 10th July for virtual fellowship, as well as meet our R100 Centenary Ambassadors, the Governor General and Mrs Hurley, as they launch our national centenary campaign. By joining us, you will witness the Passing the Baton ceremony. The baton that will carry the symbols of our centenary and will travel far and wide across Rotary clubs and Districts. Please pass this invitation on to as many Rotary clubs as possible so that they too can join this event. We ask too for your support in helping us raise funds for our R100 Centenary project, "Rotary Give Every Child a Future"; saving young lives in Pacific nations. Please expect registration details on how you can join within the next week. We look forward to you joining in and making your mark on history! Save The Date: 12 noon on July 10th 2020
